001- I WANT to know what's going on?

Who: Billy Kaplan and OPEN
What: Exploring the power plant, the hotel, and being sick

The Power Plant

Because of course Billy Kaplan would immediately head away from safety and towards possible danger. Not that the weird squirrel like things are proving too much of a hazard, but he is getting pretty far from town. The path isn't too difficult to manage, but he does have the advantage of floating lazily over any fallen debris or dangers.

His feet return to the ground as he finds the power plant, head tilting curiously as he sets out to explore. There's a bunch of tools, and some strange crystal things, none of which seem of much use until he find the data point. He hesitates a moment before giving into the urge to touch it, shivering at the strange sensation and the sudden knowledge that follows.


The Hotel

Despite how run down everything is, Billy feels wrong about approaching the stores as a means of shelter. Of course, the hotel practically screams 'you-might-get-murdered-here' but beggars can't be chooser, and he's reasons maybe they'll actually be some kind of bed. His magic isn't working so great, the less he has the conjure up the better.

He tries to get handle on the layout, exploring a few floors before finding a room that seems to be more or less empty. Of people or animals that is. What it is full of is debris. Trash, broken furniture, some stuff he doesn't want to examine too closely.

While he's still got a bit of light to work with he tries to clear the worst of it out.


The Contagion

It's slow to hit him, but Billy eventually has to admit he isn't feeling great, and it's not just his powers being weaker than usual. He's hot, and sore, and increasingly paranoid, which makes it rather difficult to get him to listen to reason and stay put.

He keeps leaving his room, too sick to make it anywhere in particular but sure he needs to get out of there, suspicious of anyone who tries to approach him.

"Fucking idiot," Tommy sighs as he carries his brother along. Back to their room, back to the pile of leaves he had set up to serve as something like a mattress. Because those bedframes didn't do much without a mattress.

"Haven't gotten sick yet," Tommy counters. "Haven't been sick once since my mutation. So shut up. It'll be safe. You think I'm going to let something hurt you?"

He huffs as he's set back in his nest of leaves, but is still for a moment at least, not making another escape attempt. Mostly because he's too tired to try again. And too hot.

"That can't be true-" he mutters, sounding briefly closer to his usual self, and Billy frowns to himself, shaking his head. Tommy wouldn't let anything hurt him. But...he was still sure it wasn't safe, and he groans, rubbing a hand over his too hot face, trying to shake those fears from his mind. "...Something going to happen."

"Yeah, you're going to lay there and get sleep," Tommy sighs. Don't make him lay down and wrap Billy up in his arms. Because he knew his twin was too hot right at the moment.

"I got water for you."

"S'too hot to sleep." Billy mirrors the sigh, pushing damp hair back from his face, and he wets his lips at the promise of water.

"Yeah? Did you get some for you too?"

Alright then. Tommy sits carefully next to his brother, reaching out to feel his forehead. He's seen it on TV, so it has to tell you something, right? And sure enough, he can feel the heat from Billy's skin. Which only deepens his concern.

"Yeah, I drank at the fountain," Tommy lies through his teeth as he holds the glass out to his brother. Good part about the whole Whale Comb was that there was still all the original dishes. Which meant glasses for transporting a bit of water at a time. "Come on, Rebecca and Jeff would shoot me if they found out you were sick and I didn't keep you hydrated."

That at least Billy can do, taking the glass with two hands, a little less sure of his grip than usual, and gulps down a good half before he has to come back up for air. He belatedly gives Tommy a look as though he doesn't quite believe him.

"They'd want you to take care of yourself too."

"I'm not their concern," Tommy reminds Billy. The same thing he'd said to Teddy before he left the Kaplan residence. When he couldn't see how Billy was choosing to abandon him just like his family had. "And I'm looking after me. I got us food, did my time in the greenhouse today, you know, the usuals."

No deliberate exercising, but they're sorta beyond that.

Billy gives him a look. His parents loved Tommy. Maybe too much, given how short a time Tommy ended up staying with them.

"Learn anything new?" He's honestly impressed how readily Tommy's taken to his role here. But Tommy's always been good at taking care of himself...

"Well, I'm learning that I really wish I had a laundromat," Tommy admits, smirking to himself. Should he tell his brother about Vision being there too? For right now he thinks not. "My jeans are all dirty at the knees, and I can't wash them in the fountain. Have to haul water out with the leaves I use to water, and scrub them."

There is only so much he can do. But there's always options.

"Oh, and there's a vine that the sap or oil or something from can give me rashes."

Smiling weakly, Billy sips at his water, settling back a little easier. "I can make you something to help...once I'm better," he promises. That sort of magic is definitely beyond him right now.

He frowns then, looking his brother over. "What sort of rashes? How bad?"

Thing is, Tommy doesn't know if he fully wants something. He's more interested in seeing how Vision takes the situation. The guy is sorta... not so bad. Tommy sighs and pulls his knees up to his chest.

"Just hives I think? Or something like that? Never had a reaction like that before. I was a healthy kid. Yanno, when I wasn't sick."

If he tells Billy so he'll definitely respect that, but for now he's set and determined to help any way he can once his magic is back under his control. Especially with how Tommy's been left taking care of the both of them.

"You're sure you aren't sick? Does it hurt?"

"I'm not sick," Tommy promises, his voice soft. "But next time it rolls around, you can nurse me. Promise."

Not that Tommy gets sick much. Speedster metabolism and all that mess.

"And nah, they've already faded."

"Mm." Billy relaxes a little, letting himself lay back. "You're pretty good at it. Maybe you should be a doctor." Because Billy doesn't seem to be following in his parents' footsteps.

Another flare of worry has him eyeing the door in a move he probably thinks is covertly. "No one can get in, right?"

Doctor? Tommy laughs. He's never amounted to anything. He'll never amount to anything. Except for being a farmer right now. But he's happy for what he has right now.

"I grow things now. And no one would trust me taking care of anyone but you," Tommy shrugs. Still, he watches the door briefly. "I can get to the door before anyone can even crosses in front of it. I'll keep you safe."

"Farmer's good too." Tommy's good at lots of stuff. He idly thinks he maybe doesn't tell him that enough, scratching at a sore.

"I trust you," Billy notes in answer to both. "I dunno what's wrong with me."

"You're sick. Alien planets with alien illnesses. There's a hospital. I could ask Vision or someone to see if they can look into it."

Not that Tommy wants to hand Billy over to someone else to take care of. But he's got to do something to help his brother, right?

"Gotta tell me what's going on beyond the fever and your freaking out over nothing."

"Not over nothing," he argues. But of course he can't explain the paranoia. How it pushes and prods at him, feeding on all ready existing anxieties.

"I feel...hot. And...stiff and...itchy." It's familiar in a way he can't quite place. "Like something I had when I was a kid."

Huh... Sounds a little like... "Chicken pox? But not the same I'm guessing. You probably shouldn't go so far as to scratch at them, right?"

Those could be scar making.

Billy sheepishly lowers his hand from doing just that. "I don't remember much about it, I was pretty little when I had it. I just remember lots and lots of calamine lotion and being stuck in bed." And none of this paranoia.

"You'd be adorable with pink dots all over you from the lotion," Tommy laughs, reaching out to ruffle his twin's hair. Clearly the guy needs to get better, but the guy is adorable, right?

He tries to duck away from the ruffling with a grumbling laugh. "You only saying that 'cause you know I'm not gonna remember any of this?" Billy accuses with a fond smile.

"Who said you're not going to remember, B?" Tommy grins. His brother shouldn't bask in being adorable. Their faces are made for sexy. The fact that Billy merely achieves adorable is sad.

Well he's not going to show off the sexy capabilities to Tommy now, is he? Billy can do both, he just leans more naturally to the adorable side of things.

"This fever, hopefully. Rather not remember how pathetic I am."

“Don’t worry, I’ll remember for you. Someone has to keep your ego from inflating too much.”

Being a god doesn’t mean you get to have a fat head. And Tommy intends to help controls that.
