Not-Temba exploration week 1; OTA
WHO: Kaz and any folks in Not-Temba
WHERE: Lots of places in Not-Temba
WHAT: First week of exploring Not-Temba
WHEN: 7/18 - 7/24
WARNINGS: Blanket warning that Kaz is a dick
Agriculture Building
Since foraging for food was of the utmost importance as far as Kaz was concerned he was starting here. It was so dense with overgrown plants that parts looked like an indoor forest. At the bottom there wasn't much light at all and based on the flowering plants that were still here, it must have been used to cultivate night-blooming flowers. A little way up, and with the sunlight strength that very definitely meant 'day' for anything planted in here, It was so dense with not just plants but trees.
Because Kaz used a cane to walk, it was surprising that he would even be able to navigate the overgrowth to begin with. But he picked up the cane and though he had a lopsided gait, he was agile enough that he could use the cane's handle as a hook and use the assisted jump to go over some clumped branches or just side-step other obstacles. It was a maze to get through and more than once Kaz debated going back. But he persevered and eventually came to be standing in a sunbeam that had managed to find its way to the third floor ground level, despite the vines and tree limbs in its way.
The Hotel
This place was almost like being in the midst of a forest made from stone. The arched doorways, the decorated walls, even the surprisingly thin leaf textures over the windows. In places the decorative limbs that wound across the walls had been damaged by time, and those stone limbs were gone in places.
The 'thunk' of Kaz's cane punctuated his steps as he walked. First from the staicase to the first floor of tree-rooms. Then down the hallway and looking through each of the rooms at a time. Once that was finished he repeated the process for the second and third floors.
The Corridor
This place was so badly overgrown that Kaz nearly skipped it altogether, but his curiosity got the better of him. So once again he picked up his cane and though he limped noticably, he was slowly picking his way past the tangled roots of the trees that had sprouted up here. In the midst of it, he found where one of the giant trees had been felled. Sunlight was no longer trapped by the canopy and instead flooded along the length of it. Kaz had a nagging sense of unease since it didn't look like this tree had been felled by disease but if it was something else about other vegetation in the forest Kaz wanted to know about it. He was careful and slower than most people were but picked his way along, using the trees trunk as a pathway and avoiding the vegetation on the ground.
Power Station Facilities
This was a little closer to what was to be expected from the stone and metal facade, though that didn't seem to be the same stone as many of the other buildings. It was darker inside but this entire place had a utilitarian feel. Rooms that had been meant as offices took a bit of navigating but it was worth taking the extra time to explore them when, using the small mag lite flashlight revealed what were definitely crystals, but they did not look at all like the power crystals used in Temba already. Curious, and intrigued, Kaz tucked them under the same arm that was already using his cane so he still had one hand free. He looked into rooms that housed generators and took note of what the Engineering Datapoint told him was a water treatment facility, also noted the dust of time gathered on both, then came to a room that was showing the power grid. The Engineering Datapoint also told him any relays needed were likely subterranean, but that didn;t necessarily mean the crystals would be rendered useless.

Perhaps she was going to the wrong party for that comment.

"So let me see if I have this right; you're very much aware the 'charge' wouldn't want a bodyguard, but you'd still want to act like one for him regardless of what he wants. That's not 'protecting a loved one' that's smothering someone enough that they are actively trying to run away."
no subject
"We have an oath to protect each other," she counters. "That you do not understand is of no consequence. Judge as you will, clearly our cultures are different."
Because to her, it is as simple as that. If he does not understand, it is not his fault. He was not raised as a Kree.
no subject
"Cultures may be different but emotions are mostly the same across the cultures and the species represented in Temba. If this 'charge' isn't with you for a first exploration, which is when you'd want a bodyguard most, what is it exactly he is protecting you from?"

Still, she finds herself drawn to asking a question.
"Does it bring you pleasure to argue with other people?"
no subject
"Not really. But since what I'm saying is usually true, even when people don't like it or don't want to hear it, there isn't much to argue about. They just don't like me, instead."
no subject
"It intrigues me, the way that humans insist upon measuring the rest of the universe by their own metrics. Perhaps it is because you are such a young species."
no subject
"Anyone usually has their own experiences to go off at first. Especially the young. How will the young learn anything unless they first get burned by trying?
no subject
"Or shocked?" she suggests, with a friendly smile. Not at all just a note of too much insults could get someone tazed. Nope. "Yet there is value in learning. I try to learn new things every day. It is through coming to understand others that we foster peace."
no subject
"I'll grant you that learning things about others allows you to understand them better, but from what I've seen as an oh-so-young human is that understanding doesn't usually lead to peace."
no subject
Not knowing and understanding the Skrull or Humans had caused her people to come into conflict with them. Not to mention many others. Her people had made enough mistakes for her to know their methods did not work well.

Kaz had seen that firsthand when the Fjerdan military exploited the addictive nature of the drug jurda parim on a grisha, who the country claimed to despise and burned at stakes, who was so badly enslaved to the drug it didn't look like it would survive the godlike high of another dose after this one.

"Not knowing people well makes it easier to demonize them, as my people have done with the Skrull. As humans have done to the Kree. It is the way of things. The risk of seeking weakness is perhaps better."
Or so he had thought.

Kaz was not arguing for the sake of arguing, he actually felt this way. He had made a reputation in Ketterdam as a con man, a killer, and the toughest, scariest thing on the street. But the rub was that it was his own weakness that was easy to find out and could easily destroy him if he ever trusted someone with it.

"My people have been at war for longer than humans in my universe have had written language. I will accept trying new ways for the sake of that ending."
no subject
"I'm not saying you shouldn't try new ways, just that it can be very dangerous to trust the others that you're talking about."
no subject
"I believe I must disagree. But I understand that each person and people have different experiences. For my people, I think learning to trust others is very important. Otherwise we might merely cease."
