Temba Beach Party!

WHO: EVERYONE!!
WHERE: Temba Beach
WHAT: BEACH PARTY TIME!!
WHEN: noooooooow
Notes: Mix & Match the prompts as desired. Any format goes!
WARNINGS: Pride Birbs. It's Pride month. So. PRIDE BIRBS! Oh. And you may add your own warning labels to the respective threads, I suppose.

Isn't it amazing what people can achieve when several come together and pool their ideas and resources for a shared goal?

It certainly is in Jon's eyes, whose innate lack of creativity originally has gone as far as bringing some blankets to the beach and hoping for a good mood. What has ended up being set up on the bluish, almost purple sand of the beach is far beyond anything he would have imagined and he won't deny being glad he has reached out over the network with his little suggestion.

Of Barbecues, Grills and other Beverages
Do you remember Cobb asking for a grill to be made for him? Right. That grill can be found at the party. Kyle has offered to prepare burgers to be grilled along with whatever meat selection the diner has to offer and Clarice is the person to thank for the home made ice pops, created from native fruits such as glueberries and mangourd. Of course these are kept fresh under a parasol and in an insulated box mostly buried into the sun. That's how the majority of the drinks offered at this party are being kept cool as well.

If you want to catch one of those fat green lobsters roaming the beach as well and toss it onto the grill, you sure can try.

INTO THE OCEAN!!
You better bring your swimwear, because jumping into the water is an option. No actually dangerous creatures are this close to the shore, making swimming or potential swimming lessons very much possible.

Tony also ensured there is a little kiddie pool for the babies. And Cobb.

Someone brought an inflatable Eyeball?
Before anyone asks, it wasn't Jon. But it's there. An inflatable eye beach ball.

Any questions? Yes? Good.

Lounging in the Shade & Music
Parasols, blankets and a guitar borrowed from Cayde's bar. Sit down, relax, chat. And if you know how to play this instrument, you're very welcome to do so.

Let there be BIRBS
Have you wondered yet why those birds are in the banner for this party? It's because they are here.

At first they linger in the trees near the beach, watching and squawking and being colorful parrots. As a little time passes, they leave the safety of their trees and start coming over, sitting on parasols, hopping curiously between this oddly large amount of people gathering at their beach and in all likelihood attempting to steal a snack or two.

But if you pay close attention, you can also observe them swooping down at the nearby lobsters, easily picking them up and carry them back into the nearby forest. Apparently these birds aren't just colorful and curious they also hunt lobsters. Who could have known...

Don't forget the Caves
Actually not far from our little party waits the entrance to the caves. Take a wrong turn in them and you will find yourself in a large chamber filled with those energy crystals that make all your technology glow and go insane or result in your powers to fluctuate greatly. Take the right turn, and you find yourself at those mysterious hot springs only few know about.

To be fair, the actual party is at the beach, but who knows when the need for some privacy arises.

When it gets Dark we gather around the Rainbow Colored Fire Pit
While set up at the edge of the gathering, the fire pit Tony and Cayde have set up to have a bonfire in easily is one of the center pieces of the party. Benches and seats either brought over from Temba or crafted from different material are set up around it and once the sun begins to set and the bonfire gets lit along with the many torches set up around the party, the invitation to remain a little longer couldn't be clearer.

There's more to it than just a cozy fire, a pleasant atmosphere and the company of friends. Next to the fire pit sits a small box. In that box, wrapped in plain tissue paper, are what at first glance are little more than lumps of wax. But mixed into this wax are different chemicals and tossing these into the pit will result in the fire burning with different colors or even sparkle. Way to set the mood and linger as the party winds down.

Due to health concerns Jon does not recommend cooking any food over the chemically altered flames, thank you.

"I'd be happy to. Still working on some of the substitutions here, but as soon as I iron out the kinks on my spicier stuff, you'll be the first one I tell."

If he'd told her salt was a luxury good on Tatooine, she'd be amazed, considering all the minerals in the sand. But explaining ice cream was easy as pie.

"Okay, so - you need two canisters. I got mine from the He Row Soup Lies buildin' - one they call a Number Ten can, and the other one's a Number Five can." She gestured with her hands to show the appropriate size. You put your ingredients in the smaller can: a pint of cream, a third of a cup of sugar, and whatever you want for your flavor: fruit, liquor, syrup, nuts. Then you seal it up nice and tight - if you can tape over the lid that's the best, so nothin' gets out. Once you've got that all set, you put a little ice in the bottom of the big can, about yea much -" a demonstrative pinch of her fingers - "and stick the little can on top. Then pack ice around the sides as much as will fit, till you've filled up the big can. Seal that up same as the little one. That's all the easy stuff, and the last part is what's the pain in the ass unless you've got friends to help."

She glanced across the beach, to where Grogu was playing in the sand, and grinned. "Bet the little one would think it was quite the game. You put it down on a blanket and roll it back and forth, as much as you can, fast as you can, for about half an hour. The ice and the motion make everything in the small can mix and freeze."

What made salt expensive was getting the salt out of all the sand. It was work intensive. That upped the price.

While she explained things Cobb listened and tended to the coals. He whistled when she talked about all the ice getting packed around. Maker, that would be expensive. No one had ice like that on Tatooine except maybe the Hutts.

"Ain't no way I'll be able to make that back home." He shook his head at the very idea. The kids in Mos Pelgo would love it. Maybe he could use some other coolant? Not safe around food though, so he had to forget that idea. "But we should make more of it here."

Where water and ice were easy to come by and cheap.

"Might be able to come up with something," she said, deciding to give it a little thought. There had to be a way.

"But you won't hear me complain about makin' more here. I'll make it a regular item at the diner. Maybe even let people suggest flavors. Back home, they name them funny things, or after people or places. I could make a flavor for everyone."

"Why, Starling, if you want to get a taste of me you don't have to go to so much effort," he said with a flirty wink. Cobb couldn't help himself sometimes. He saw the opening and couldn't resist.

It was just friendly teasing. Something he'd do with Issa-Or if she was around. She'd then punch his arm while rolling her eyes and scold him for saying the same joke as before.

Starling and Issa-Or had a lot in common.
thesepreciousthings: (that's actually pretty funny)

She laughed, loud and long. As much as she reminded him of Issa-Or, he was reminding her just as much of John Brigham. It did her heart good to have that hole filled, even a little.

"If you really wanted me to eat you up," she teased right back, "you shouldn't have brought all the goddamn barbecue. Now m' too full. Besides, I get the feelin' there's someone might have somethin' to say about that."

Don't think she hadn't noticed that Din had been habitually glancing over toward the grill.

"Come to a party empty handed? Wouldn't dream of it." It was bad manners to come to an event like this empty handed on Cobb's planet. If everyone brought something but one person took advantage of their generosity they were looked on very badly.

Cobb's expression didn't twitch a bit at the implication. He had a better sabbac face than that. She could hint at anything she wanted but he wouldn't twitch.

"Kyle would get a little touchy if you didn't recognize his cookin' too," Cobb agreed with a sage nod.

She had to admire his commitment to the poker face, it was pretty stalwart. Her own smile refused to fade in the presence of a good friend.

"Oh, I recognize his cookin' all the time. He helps out a lot at the diner. Pretty sure I'd be doin' twice as much work without him around - though we'll see if that percentage shifts a little. Not that I mind if it does: those boys gotta live a little. Be happy."

"Hard not to tease him a little bit about it now and then," Cobb admitted with a fond smile. "He gets all twitchy and, well, I'm a simple man who's amused by that."

Sometimes, it felt like he was teasing a little brother or younger cousin when he started poking at Kyle. The kid riled up faster than a loth cat.

"Good to see folks living while they're stuck here."

feel like wrapping this in a few so we can mine it up?

[personal profile] thesepreciousthings 2021-07-16 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"He does make the best damn faces when you rag on him," she agreed. Wine Aunt Clarice was in solidarity about several things with Cobb, apparently.

"It really is. I hope everyone can find a reason to be happy here. ... Even if it's just our cookin'."

i will be doing a mine post like monday/tuesday with their getting trapped thread :D

"Eventually, folks will make the life for themselves they want." Cobb could find happiness in just about any sort of life. Even trapped on an alien planet Cobb could find little happiness here and there.

But, he couldn't make people live that way. Some people would be miserable no matter what. Cobb would let them, honestly. It wasn't his responsibility to make them happy.

"And we'll feed 'em along the way."
