The Vision - OTA

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2019-10-08 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Well now, this is all oddly familiar, isn't it?

Ghosting through the ship (sometimes literally, as he can phase through the walls and other solid objects, though not the outer shell of the ship itself), the Vision explores the entirety of their current confinement. It had been a long time since he'd been on a basic Atroma ship - he and his crew had poured so many credits into upgrading theirs that it hardly bore any resemblance to the final form. Here's a cargo bay, empty of the shelving and dirt beds that he had transformed into a garden. Here's a kitchen, lacking in varieties of protein flavor and texture and anything resembling fresh food. And the bunks are all one room, not the comparatively spacious double he and Wanda had ended up with.

Not to mention that the Twin Roses and Starduck had never actually been in this shape. They'd both been upgraded far past the basics by the time the original four ships had merged into two. The Agrii can copy, it seems, but as with their other efforts it's missing something important. In this case, history.

Finally, he ends up in the place he'd often spent his free time back when he'd been voyaging through the stars: the Engineering section near the ship's engines. The knowledge once given to him by the Atroma augment is elusive, fleeting, and reminds him of what he always hated about the Atroma and is not particularly fond of among the Agrii. The sanctity of his mind should be inviolable, if their hosts are truly benign, and yet they take knowledge away as freely as they give it. For someone with a near-unlimited data storage capacity, it's frustrating in the extreme.

Regardless, when he comes across another member of his newly-formed cohort, he greets them with a smile and a wave, probably from a distance if he doesn't know them. It's easier that way, when you're visibly non-human.

II - on the Bridge

[Rayla stumbled in on another person during her exploration of the small ship. All of it... the tech, everything, was beyond her. She was from somewhere much less technologically inclined, after all, and, as she watched him attempting to make the controls work, she had to ask...]

Are you familiar with this technology at all?
tingmoonshadowpowers: (Amused Smirk)

[personal profile] tingmoonshadowpowers 2019-10-08 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[In this case, visibly non-human was working in his favor. Rayla remembered him from the party, having been drawn to him because he did not look human. She gave him a little smile. It seemed the non-humans outnumbered the humans on this ship, and Rayla was okay with that.]

Vision, right?
unbearablynaive: (slight smile)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2019-10-08 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah, yes, the elf! He smiles at her, relieved to see a familiar face.]

Yes, and it was Rayla, was it not? Welcome to the--er ,well, actually, I'm not certain which of the ships we're on. But I've spent several years in a place very much like this, if there was anything you had questions about.

[Which is probably all of it? She comes from a heavy magic world, if he remembers correctly.]

[It doesn't escape the Vision's notice that this one is having a particularly unhappy time so far. Quietly, so as not to wake the others, he heads over to a few feet away from garak's bed (as much personal space as the crowded area will allow, really). He speaks in a soft voice and holds out his own blanket.]

Pardon me, but if you're cold, I don't actually require this...?

[Julian is having a difficult time getting his bearings as he sits up quickly, his Augmented brain able to process though that they're on a ship of some sort. He gets up to start exploring.

The screen is certainly disconcerting and he watches it for a few minutes to determine how fast it's moving. Not very, apparently. It seems right now he doesn't have to let his imagination run wild with what the number means.

It's not a very big ship, smaller than the Defiant. It certainly doesn't appear to be that modern. It's quite jarring actually to see all of the non-Cardassian tech. Every potential exit he comes across is locked which is frustrating. There's another side of the ship he has yet to look at and when he gets there, his brain has trouble processing what he's seeing.

Garak, clearly distressed and diaphoretic, slumped against a wall. His body acts out of instinct more than anything, kneeling beside the Cardassian. A hand comes up to Garak's temple to feel his pulse as Julian takes mental stock of what he's seeing. Diaphoresis, tachycardia, tachypnea, pallor.

"Garak?" he asks in an urgent but hushed tone with a small shake of his shoulder. "Garak, what's wrong?"

[The Vision nods. Anyone not originally from the Drift Fleet would probably find all of this rather stressful - and even if they were, there are plenty of other reasons not to be able to sleep, like stress over being moved around without one's consent or unhappiness at not being able to see the sun, or any number of things.]

As it happens, my equivalent of sleep involves floating upright about two feet off the floor, so I have little use for bedding. [At least not while his wife is on a different ship!! Life is unfair like that.] Is there anything else I could do to help?
unbearablynaive: (doubtful)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2019-10-09 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. [The Vision certainly doesn't know Garak well enough to tell it's a facade, and so the smile serves its purpose well: better to be smiling than curled up miserably on the bed, isn't it?

He nods and begins to walk toward the kitchen, glad the layout is the same as his old ship's.]
The tea is halfway decent, though I think we lack even instant coffee. [And then it occurs to him that he ought to introduce himself.] I am the Vision; I was captain of a vessel much like this one a few years ago, so I am familiar with the essentials.

"You're the diametric opposite of 'well'," he scolds, though absently as he tries to get a gauge on Garak's body temperature. It's rather difficult considering he's not been able to feel the normal body temperature of Cardassians usually, so it's even harder to determine if the other is febrile.

"Take it easy," he says in his best soothing bedside manner.

But if he doesn't have a fever then...

Julian notices how Garak is trying to take deep breaths, like he's trying to calm himself. To calm himself...from panicking. Perhaps at discovering they're trapped here as Julian has. He slowly removes his hand from the scaled skin and looks at the Cardassian with a concerned furrow of his brows.

"Garak are you claustrophobic?"
unbearablynaive: (take my flesh)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2019-10-10 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad to meet you, Garak. [He even sounds distressingly sincere about it, which might be because--] My wife is beginning to grow discontent over the lack of clothing options in this place. If we can find some suitable fabric, I'd be happy to barter for your services.

[It's kind of unusual to get someone with a skilled trade rather than, well, superhero.]

Oh? I was on the Twin Roses with the Drift Fleet, though I'd been living on the planet Naviadna for a year before being pulled here. Our version had many upgrades and personalization, however; this ship is exceedingly basic by comparison.
tingmoonshadowpowers: (What Do You Mean?)

[personal profile] tingmoonshadowpowers 2019-10-10 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rayla nodded at the question about her name, and then looked around as Vision was momentarily stumped by where they might be.]

Well, uh... everyone keeps callin'em ships. That doesn't mean we're goin' on water, does it?
tingmoonshadowpowers: (Oh? What's That?)

[personal profile] tingmoonshadowpowers 2019-10-10 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rayla looked mildly disappointed for a moment, and then curious with a mix of confusion.]

What's an augment?

[She'd been hearing that term in conversation before, but hadn't really paid attention because it hadn't really concerned her up to this point.]
tingmoonshadowpowers: (Uh-Oh!! Duck!)

Rayla

[personal profile] tingmoonshadowpowers 2019-10-10 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[To say she was frustrated at being stuck was an understatement. So, to keep busy and stop feeling like a trapped dragon, Rayla had taken to figuring out the stationary bike, poking around in the kitchen, and a few other things around the ship. She wasn't used to technology, so disasters were bound to happen...

Like setting food gel on fire in the kitchen, or locking herself in the cargo bay, or various other "fun" activities... Oops?]

I find it unlikely we would go on the water, but we'd certainly be able to. But these ships are of a type I've been on before, one more suited to flying through the sky. I don't suppose you have anything like that at home?
tingmoonshadowpowers: (I'm Totally Human)

[personal profile] tingmoonshadowpowers 2019-10-10 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rayla shook her head, only mildly relieved.]

The only things I've seen in the sky are birds an' dragons. I can deal with flyin', though. I just dunna like sailin' all that much.

[She gave him a sheepish look.]

The snap doesn't appear to take him aback as much as it does. Irritability, likely secondary to his anxiety. He hasn't seen Garak like that in a while. A couple of years at least. It's okay though. It comes with the territory. Right now, Garak is a patient and he must forgive some emotional lability.

"Whatever you're referring to, no I don't remember. No need to apologize," he reassures. He realizes that maybe kneeling in front of the other isn't the best way to make him feel less claustrophobic and so kneels at his side instead.

The problem is, claustrophobia is not something that can be fixed with a medicine. A calming medicine might help the symptoms, but Julian's looked all over the ship--there isn't even a sickbay let alone proper medical equipment or pharmaceuticals.

"What can I do to help?" he asks, keeping his frustration at his inability to offer much of anything bottled up.

Is it a matter of seasickness?

[Luckily, the ships aren't flying just yet.]
tingmoonshadowpowers: (Oh Ha Ha Riiiiight)

[personal profile] tingmoonshadowpowers 2019-10-11 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
EEhhh... well, I don't exactly feel great about it.

[Seasickness was putting it mildly. Not only did she get sick, but she was horribly afraid of it.]

How do ya feel about water?
