Every hero movie needs a party

WHO: Anyone and everyone
WHERE: Some Ballroom
WHAT: PARTAY! AKA the Fundraiser Padme is throwing to raise money for Tony's philanthropic oopsie
WHEN: mid-April
WARNINGS: Nothing in general. Potential for villain violence.

((ooc: This is a general mingle post. Go forth and do whatever you want! I've set the scene for the party but what you do in it is up to you! Want to party and schmooze with some rich folks? Go for it! Want to be a bad guy and try to steal shit from under said rich people's noses? Fabulous! Want to be a hero and stop said bad guys. Awesome! Want to brood and sulk like the dark angsty DC character you've always wanted to be? You do you, boo. Go forth and have fun!))

Maybe you're well to do in the city. Maybe you just know a guy who knows a guy. Or maybe you just have the right connections and heard it through the grapevine. One way or another, you've heard about the party of the month. Padme Naberrie Amidala, on behalf of the Stark Industries Board of Directors, has planned the finest fundraising event of her career to help pay for the new wing on the children's hospital... And maybe some starving children Tony wants to save.

Arrival

The entrance sets the stage for the whole event. Lit posts leading up to a wide circular doorway. The red carpet from the sidewalk is lined with paparazzi looking to snap some primo pictures of the attendees. Pose for the cameras, mingle, or just grab a drink from one of the waitstaff as you head inside.

Dinner is Served

The tables are set with fine place settings and beautiful center pieces. Most of the room is decked out in black and white, so as to not draw attention to the lovely colored gowns worn by many of the attendees. The gourmet meal has several options to satisfy everyone. The deserts are even more elaborate. Grab a bite and socialize. Or steal a seat or a plate when no one's looking. I'm not the boss of you.

Time to Socialize

There might not be a formal dance floor but the string quintet is playing some lovely music while the guests mingle. Now's the time to grab a glass of champagne or something from the bar. Snag some fancy looking hors d'oeuvres from a wandering server and spend time with your fellow citizens of this fine city.

Auction!

It is a fundraiser, after all. Aside from the cost to get in (unless you're a filthy freeloader who snuck in the back door), there is also a silent auction set up for attendees. But there are no gift baskets or wreathes in this auction. Nay, my friends. There is a reason there are guards at the door. This auction includes such things as Rolex watches, diamond necklaces, ski trips to the Andes and other fancy rich people things.

But the cherry on top is Tony Stark's contribution. A car that mysterious billionaire Din Djarin is rumored to have his eye on. The car has somehow been brought into the event and is on display for anyone to admire. But remember, that car did belong to Tony Stark, so none of you villains even think about trying to steal it!

The Bar

Every formal event has to have a bar for people tired of champagne or those who just want to be antisocial and run away for a while. Does this really need any more description than that?

"There should be a lot of money raised." Cobb hadn't spent much time with the rich and famous crowd but he had a feeling that they liked to out-do each other. With a silent auction and expensive things to bid on, that sort of competition was good.

He wouldn't be chipping in to that. Cobb definitely didn't have the funds to compete with these people.

"What's it look like to you?" he asked, head tilted slightly. "Not just the size of the crowd but describe it. What sort of general people do you see? What do you think when you see a crowd like this?"

Alright, he was slipping a little into being a reporter but he didn't think Bucky would mind in this case.

"I hope so." The auction items were decidedly out of Bucky's spending range, but he wasn't really here to bid on anything anyway. Hell, he could be fairly certain that some of the guests spent more on their outfits for tonight than he spent on clothes in a single year.

That question made him hesitate, glancing at him companion sidelong — not that the other man would see it. The honest answer wasn't particularly nice sounding, and he'd surely get a dressing down from his image coaches, but he decided to go for it anyway.

"Off the record?" He glanced at the crowd again before turning his full attention back to Vanth. "A lot of pretentiousness. We've got a hospital specializing in treating sick and injured children, right? That should be reason enough for the people here to help out. But they need the pageantry, the wining and dining, the prizes. I know it's necessary but it still bothers me."

"I'll keep it off the record." Even though it was a great quote and something Cobb agreed with on some level. People should help because people needed help and they had the means. Instead, they were here to show off for each other.

My bank account is bigger than your bank account jerk off nonsense.

"You ever notice these parties for children's hospitals never do anything for the kids?" He raised an eyebrow as he glanced in Bucky's general direction. "We've got Captain America and I'm sure a whole bunch of other heroes around. Wouldn't it be more fun if the kids got to party with 'em?"

This answer probably wouldn't be off the record.

Men more famous than either of them have made that argument before. And likely will continue to make that argument when they're long turned to dust. It was a part of life, so it seemed, and change was slow to come.

But this also wasn't the venue for those sorts of thoughts. The event was already in motion after all, now it needed success.

Bucky chuckled at question; leading yes, but not in a bad way. "Personally, I'd love to bring the party to a children's hospital. Everyone calls me a hero, but those kids are the real heroes, with the struggles they face every day. I'd definitely be supportive of a superhero day as a fundraiser." A beat. "And that can absolutely be on the record."

"Yeah, that's a good one for the article. I'll put you down for that." He pulled out his voice and used voice to text to make a note. He wouldn't record their conversation like he usually did for interviews but the quote was worth keeping.

He'd probably paraphrase the idea of rich wastefulness in the article too but far away from any mention of Captain America.

"Well, if you find Miss Amidala tonight you can run the idea past her and I bet she'd go for it." Cobb tucked his phone back in his suit jacket.

"Feel free," he said, taking a long sip of whiskey as his companion recorded what he needed to record. Hell of a lot easier than pencil and paper, even taking Vanth's disability out of the equation. The wonders of modern technology right there.

"And you know that's not a bad idea." He thinks Padme would go for it anyway, and she's much better with the event planning than he; she'll likely have some idea of how feasible it would be. "I'll have to run it by her when I catch her later tonight."

"Just make sure you give me a little credit when you run it by her." Cobb toasted him with his drink. "I think I've taken up enough of your time, Captain. Thank you for talkin' with me. You didn't have to do that."

No doubt he'd be tired of talking to be by the end of the night. Cobb was glad he was only a reporter and not anyone as famous as Bucky Barnes. It would be exhausting. It was definitely a good thing his more famous role, the Marshal's identity was unknown.

"But if anyone starts giving you shit, come find me. We can take advantage of my blindness any time."

"At least half credit, and whatever I can manage in exclusive story?" Not that the second would be much; Padme was far too fair to the news outlets of the city. But certain reporters were favored over others for press releases, and it didn't hurt to put Vanth's name in her ear.

But he'd probably lingered long enough, Vanth was right. Being such a public figure was exhausting enough and with his identity known, he was always a public figure. Sometimes he envied the heroes who kept theirs secret. That was neither here not there though; he tossed back the rest of his drink and put the glass down, nodding to the bartender before bidding farewell to his companion. "It's my thanks to you, truly. Hero for a night, at the very least. I'll remember your offer if I need saving again."
