Every hero movie needs a party
WHO: Anyone and everyone
WHERE: Some Ballroom
WHAT: PARTAY! AKA the Fundraiser Padme is throwing to raise money for Tony's philanthropic oopsie
WHEN: mid-April
WARNINGS: Nothing in general. Potential for villain violence.
((ooc: This is a general mingle post. Go forth and do whatever you want! I've set the scene for the party but what you do in it is up to you! Want to party and schmooze with some rich folks? Go for it! Want to be a bad guy and try to steal shit from under said rich people's noses? Fabulous! Want to be a hero and stop said bad guys. Awesome! Want to brood and sulk like the dark angsty DC character you've always wanted to be? You do you, boo. Go forth and have fun!))
Maybe you're well to do in the city. Maybe you just know a guy who knows a guy. Or maybe you just have the right connections and heard it through the grapevine. One way or another, you've heard about the party of the month. Padme Naberrie Amidala, on behalf of the Stark Industries Board of Directors, has planned the finest fundraising event of her career to help pay for the new wing on the children's hospital... And maybe some starving children Tony wants to save.
Arrival
The entrance sets the stage for the whole event. Lit posts leading up to a wide circular doorway. The red carpet from the sidewalk is lined with paparazzi looking to snap some primo pictures of the attendees. Pose for the cameras, mingle, or just grab a drink from one of the waitstaff as you head inside.
Dinner is Served
The tables are set with fine place settings and beautiful center pieces. Most of the room is decked out in black and white, so as to not draw attention to the lovely colored gowns worn by many of the attendees. The gourmet meal has several options to satisfy everyone. The deserts are even more elaborate. Grab a bite and socialize. Or steal a seat or a plate when no one's looking. I'm not the boss of you.
Time to Socialize
There might not be a formal dance floor but the string quintet is playing some lovely music while the guests mingle. Now's the time to grab a glass of champagne or something from the bar. Snag some fancy looking hors d'oeuvres from a wandering server and spend time with your fellow citizens of this fine city.
Auction!
It is a fundraiser, after all. Aside from the cost to get in (unless you're a filthy freeloader who snuck in the back door), there is also a silent auction set up for attendees. But there are no gift baskets or wreathes in this auction. Nay, my friends. There is a reason there are guards at the door. This auction includes such things as Rolex watches, diamond necklaces, ski trips to the Andes and other fancy rich people things.
But the cherry on top is Tony Stark's contribution. A car that mysterious billionaire Din Djarin is rumored to have his eye on. The car has somehow been brought into the event and is on display for anyone to admire. But remember, that car did belong to Tony Stark, so none of you villains even think about trying to steal it!
The Bar
Every formal event has to have a bar for people tired of champagne or those who just want to be antisocial and run away for a while. Does this really need any more description than that?

Outside doop de doo
He hadn't expected to find her out here. He'd caught glimpses of her inside, but she'd obviously been busy, and he'd been doing his own observations, trying to prove the press pass he'd been given wouldn't be a waste.
"Merrin, hey."
no subject
She's a little startled by the interruption, but her surprise quickly melts into a relaxed smile. Between the classes they share, their internships at the paper, and all the times they've hung out, she sees him literally all the time... so why is she still so happy to see him now? "Cal."
Her gaze sweeps over him, not particularly subtly, because this has to be the first time she's ever seen him dressed in a suit. "You look nice," she says matter-of-factly.
no subject
"Beat me to it. Personally, I think you put more effort into it," he says, smiling back. He glances back towards the doors, gesturing vaguely. "Is this your first time going to one of these things?"
no subject
"No, but it's my first time having to work," she replies, moving to stand a little closer to him. Since this is the back of the venue... well, it's not like this is a dank, dark alley, since this neighborhood is too nice for that, but it's still basically an empty street. There's not much going on back here. She was kind of hoping there would be some place to sit down for a bit, but... "This is your first time?"
no subject
"Yeah, it is. Half of the time I think I've been just trying to keep out of people's way," he says, supposing he shouldn't be surprised Merrin's been to something like this before. Surely her father must have let her tag along to some events for curiosity's sake. "We're probably going to have a lot of pictures to go through after all this," he laughs.
no subject
"I took a lot of pictures too. It will give us something to do on Monday," she returns, the corners of her eyes crinkling. As exciting as reporting could get at times, most of the day-to-day work was pretty boring, really. But she could think of much worse things to do on a Monday than sort through pictures with Cal.
She wraps her arms around herself, a little chilled. It's a nice night out, but it's still a little bit brisk—which she hadn't really considered at all when she came out here, her jacket still with the coat check near the front.
no subject
It's cool out and really, Cal enjoys the fresh air compared to being inside. Even with the air-conditioning you can never really avoid the added warmth of hundreds of bodies within an enclosed space. But Merrin's movement doesn't go unnoticed, and after glancing at her, Cal quietly slips is dark blazer off, holding it out in offering.
no subject
She stops a little short when he holds out his jacket, struck momentarily speechless by the gesture. After a moment, she wordlessly takes it from him and wraps herself in it like a robe—the fabric is still warm from his body heat, and it's much too big for her, and she's not really sure what to do with any of that information. Finally, she murmurs, "Thank you, Cal."
no subject
He gives her a shy smile and a faint shrug to match, tucking his hands into his pockets as he glances out along the street. "Seems like it'll be more useful to you than me at the moment."
no subject
Her voice has softened a little when she asks, "Trying to? You were not successful?" That's not something that happens often with Cobb. He's pretty persistent... and so is Cal, for that matter.
no subject
"So we figured it was probably better not to press our luck before we got kicked out," he grins.
no subject
"I had wondered where you'd gone." You as in the both of them, of course. Not just Cal. And not like she'd been paying that much attention to his comings and goings or anything. She'd just... happened to notice. "Of course, because the shredder had stopped," she adds quickly—maybe a little too quickly—and completely unnecessarily.
Time to backtrack, and fast. "She would have kicked you out. The secretaries at Stark do not mess around." It's a statement of fact, really. She's heard stories from her father.
no subject
Merrin's words draw his eyes back to her as he turns his head, and he can't help but grin then. As she hurries on he chuckles, nodding as he can't help but agree on that. Cobb's charms weren't going to make that secretary change her mind.
"I wonder if Cobb got to talk to him here. Mister Stark, that is. Seems like everyone who's anyone is here."
no subject
"I—yes." She presses her lips together, trying very hard to untangle her thoughts and push her awkwardness aside. It's Cal, and he's her friend. "So I have noticed. Maybe this is the chance for all of us to get interviews," she adds, her tone light.
no subject
"Oh- I did actually get to meet Captain America."
