Well, I don't know about you folks but now that we're back I'm done livin' on ships.

[ A slightly ironic statement to make since Cobb is clearly sitting outside the hangar. ]

So, I'm doin' somethin' about it. I've told a few of you my plans but this is for everyone else that hasn't heard. I'm gonna move out of the First Breath and fix up a house. One somewhere I can pen up some glownies and start ranching them for food and wool. Then I'm gonna fix up the house next door and whoever wants it can have it.

And then move on to the next. And the next. If you want a house somewhere else from where I end up, I'd be willin' to help out there as well.

[ There's a good amount of determination in his tone. Cobb's very clearly done with being a spacer. Stupid pipes everywhere on the First Breath. ]

If you wanna help out, I'd appreciate that but you don't have to. I took that Engineering data point so I understand how to do the work. I could try and teach folks who don't know construction but wanna help. I got tools and figure I'll salvage what I can from houses that aren't worth saving.

We got the bare bones of a town here. Might as well make an effort to build something from it.

Please advise me where you wish to begin your work. You will want a section where I have determined the power grid is stable, and the ground is not likely to sink, as has occurred over portions of the city. There are a few sections I have previously evaluated as suitable for more focused habitation, however no one has seemed interested in restoration efforts on this level before.

I also know several sites that will serve as good sources for salvage, including for the wiring that the Agrii city uses to tap into the power grid. Larger constructions or renovations could cause problems depending on water needs, but it's simple to handle.

[What, Reeve has been waiting for a LONG TIME for someone else to see the value to all of this.]

I have some plans sketched up at the TRC Office if you're interested in some ideas.

The what office? There are offices here?

[ He doesn't sound excited having to go through an office. Governments just get in the way of good work. ]

Look, I need somewhere I can have land for the glownies. That's my starting point. We need them for wool and food. Ain't no way around it. I don't even care about electricity. I can live without a lot of comforts.

Just good houses, stable land, and space. You got a place in mind that fits that description and I'll check it out.

There is an office. The Temba Restoration Coordination office. The only building I have been able to overhaul single-handedly. There is no obligation, but I believe it could be useful to have the assistance of an experienced architect, do you not? Nothing needs to be fancy, but being certain that the location chosen isn't likely to fall into the ground would be useful.

[Yes, the glownies.]

It was my understanding that the Glownies were being actively kept and tended to were being done so in the farm area? The long building near the greenhouse. There was a herd there I believe. Perhaps they were displaced by the spider attack. If you wished to continue to use that area and didn't mind a commute, there are some old stores that have previously been used for conversion to living space. If you bring up your map on the communicator, they would be the areas in the pink quadrant behind the hotel.

[He's a city planner, and Reeve's been thinking about this for a while. But until now, there had been little to no expression of interest in this sort of restoration of the city for their comfort. Even suggestions of it had earned him an instance of being mocked. He knew he could do little to nothing to solve the storms, that wasn't what HE was here for. Reeve was a builder, a planner, a designer. It was about time he got to do that.]

Well, I was thinking the Engineering thing would give me all I need to know about restoring houses here. They're not built like the ones back home. I'll take the help if you've got experience. One man doing this will take a real long time.

[ These houses all seem to be completely above ground for one. And they're taller. Square. He was just hoping his experience back home would translate. ]

If there's some place for a herd already, I don't see a reason to move 'em. Unless that place ain't suitable anymore. Don't wanna live in a store, I'll be honest. Rather have a house and a long walk.

[ Living on a ship was no living at all in Cobb's mind. He'd fought hard for his house and little piece of land back home. He was going to get the same here, damn it. ]

Pretty sure most folks won't want to live in a store either. Homes, pal, that's what we should be fixin' up.

It's been a while, but I used to help my dad back at the ranch, and help out around the colony. I could probably figure some of it out again if you need a hand and don't mind someone out of practice.

[There's a whistle from off screen.]

Most of what you'll find the datapoint provides is focused more toward electrical engineering and the other systems that run the city, not engineering as in structures and materials.

I'm...

[He sighs and feels a bit self-conscious that he's about to admit this.]

I'm not the greatest at hands on building. It wasn't something that my professors and other instructors ever thought was a necessary thing for architects and city planners. We were supposed to be above that, instructing others on our wills and designs. So my hands on work is very limited in experience. I can raise a wooden barn, I can help put together a log bunkhouse, these I've done by hand recently. But you'll find me a willing student in learning the practical steps of construction, and I'd be very happy to provide whatever guidance and knowledge I have of any other functions we might need.

[But he's silent for a moment as he scrolls through the map and there is even the sound of riffled paper as he goes through things he drew himself of the city's layout.]

From what I've been able to determine in my walks and studies, the Agrii had preferential design toward apartment complex living, rather than individual standing houses. I had suggested the shops because some of them are small and could be converted, as I know at least some young men here have done. But I see there was some subdivision area to the south that might work for what you're thinking. And could spin out into a nice little living area for those happy to walk.

I'll take any help I can get. Skilled or unskilled. Figure some of this will have to be learned as we do it. You're welcome to pitch in. I don't know much about farming or ranching anything other than banthas.

[ And he doesn't know that much about banthas in the first place. ]

More used to repairing ships, than buildings. [Or at least his ship back home. The ones here obviously are fixed.] But...willing to lend a hand.

[Not like there's much else to do in the city. There's a slight sound of consideration.]

If we can find or make some sort of cart. The blurrg could transport materials. [Or debris, whichever is needed.]

Well, shit. That ain't as helpful as I was hoping.

[ He's actually a little pissed about that. He accepted alien knowledge in his head thinking it would help with the rebuilding. Useless floating ball of information. ]

Hm, so you know stuff in theory? Be able to spot weak points and things like that? Houses where I'm from are domes and mostly buried under the sand. I know how to spot problems with those. These are just... boxes? Boxes should be strong, right?

[ Cobb's just outside thinking out loud at this point. He grunts as he gets to his feet and starts walking. ]

South. I'll start heading that way. There's not a fancy way to mark something on the map and share it with someone is there?

[Clarice had just finished moving her own personal things to the hotel, and is perched on a cot as she looks down at her phone, sweat beaded on her brow and her ponytail starting to come loose]

Count me in, Marshall. [she winks] Even if you've just got me cuttin' down trees or diggin' holes for fenceposts.

I'm always happy to work with you again, partner.

[ He tips his head towards the camera with a playful smirk. ]

A cart isn't that hard. Should be able to make something that fits your beast if there's nothing just lying around.

[ A cart's just a mine car with wheels, right? Cobb's got experience with those. ]

We can cut down the trees? What happens when we run out?

[ Wood is incredibly expensive where he's from. The trees are a precious resource not to be touched in his mind. ]

Once I find a place I'll have a better idea of what I need help with.

[ Cobb doesn't care if what he builds is pretty. As long as it's functional. ]

[she pulls the phone a little farther away, getting a sense for the camera. this is a piece of tech she's unfamiliar with, after all]

A little harder to scratch that. Clever.

Oh, it's a far more helpful tool than many people consider. It also allows us to work on the ships and keep those in working order, as well as other structures like the power station and the water pumps and all of that. It's a good datapoint, and we could absolutely use more people carrying it!

[Please, no, Reeve wants more engineers to talk to, even if they're datapoint engineers. It's a good datapoint. Okay, maybe Reeve was just intrigued by how the Agrii did things and how their systems worked.]

I know stuff in theory. I've designed and managed the building of an entire city that... Well, after being on Coruscant is very underwhelming but my world doesn't have technology on that caliber yet. We only just put the first manned rocket into space three years ago and we haven't had a chance to make more, but that's beside the point.

Domes are a very wonderful construction for sandy environments actually. I've seen other constructions, but if it's windy and sandy and buried, that's a great structure choice. Arches are very strong. But I'm familiar with more... boxy structures. They are common where I'm from and are sturdy for the situation we're in.

[This is hard to have as a conversation from a distance, but he's trying. And it's probably the longest speech he's had with a relative stranger in a long time.]

There is a fancy way. I'll send you the coordinates. And, if you'd like, I could come meet you to discuss what ideas you might have and how I could help with them.

You collect the seeds and plant a bunch for each one that gets cut down. Make a tree farm, somewhere. Sure, it takes time, but as long as we're selective and limit ourselves to how much we cut, it shouldn't be a problem.

I'll see what I can remember. Maybe it'd be worth it for me to let go of the piloting data point for a bit too. See if I can't be a little more useful around this place.

I've had the engineering point for most of the time since I've been here. If you need any specific parts by way of technical equipment or the like, I've got a salvage workshop up in the northwestern part of the city.

I haven't really done a whole lot of construction work. Most of my work's been with scrapping old starships. But if you need a hand with anything I'm willing to try.

[His tone is light, and there might just be a slight smile there. It'll be nice to work with Cobb again, even if it's not fighting a dragon.]

It can pull a fairly sizeable cart. Big enough to carry a large pile of parts. From my ship. [Don't ask. Damn Jawas.]

Well, you gotta be a little tougher in these situations. Otherwise, you're gonna crumble. It won't be easy but we'll manage with some time and hard work.

Well, I'm not going to give it up right away. Just had hopes it would be more useful in construction than it's turning out.

[ It still annoys him that it didn't cover what he thought it would. He had accepted the knowledge in his head for the hope it would be helpful and it wasn't. Cobb didn't like to be wrong. ]

I can't see us tearing down these boxes just to build domes. There's no binary suns to hide from so no reason to bury ourselves underground. It's easier to salvage what we can and restore what's decent. Maybe after we've got something stable we can look into building new structures.

[ There's a note of authority in the way Cobb talks about his plans. Mos Pelgo hadn't needed this much work but after repeated dragon attacks it had needed the occasional rebuilding and fixing up. He feels like he knows what he's doing in this case. ]

Oh sure, I don't mind meetin' up. I'll be at those coordinates.

You wanna handle that, Starling? I don't know shit about trees. We don't have 'em where I'm from.

Might wanna ask one of those Agriculture folk on how to manage 'em? I would think they'd be useful in that.

I guess you can't just change ships to one that needs a pilot, can you?

[ Which would make the chosen skill useful. Cobb doesn't want anyone to sacrifice what they chose. ]

Reeves told me there was a ranch space already out by the greenhouse. You wanna see if it's still salvageable? Better to rebuild somethin' than start new if we've got the choice.

Not sure what we'll need until I figure out where I'm startin' this little project but I'll keep you in mind.

Given those skills I might call on you when I start tearing down places for supplies. I've done a little salvaging but mostly it was scrounging parts from junk yards and fixin' them up. Never a full tear down of a place. Wanna save as much as we can and that's done better with skilled hands.
