Mandalorian catch all!

WHO: Din Djarin/Mando, anybody else!
WHERE: Around Coruscant
WHAT: Things and stuff!
WHEN: 900 years in the past, in a galaxy far far away
WARNINGS: None...? Will change as needed
NOTES: Feel free to tag in your preferred style, I will match it.

A. Disappearing act

Mando didn't stick around for too long after landing, and dealing with Grogu's distress. Maybe a day, maybe two, as they made sure the people, that didn't know the planet, were settled. Then one morning, he's gone. Having left in the early hours of the morning, just before sunrise. When most, if not all, were probably asleep. He had his people to find, and a low profile to keep. What better way to do that, than to disappear into the city.

Using the credits the Agrii provided, he took a speeder down into the lower tiers of the city. Where he knew he'd find them. Or more accurately, they found him first. With their spies within the city, it didn't take long for word of a new, strange, Mandalorian to make it to Coruscant's Mandalorian inhabitants. After being confronted, and proving he wasn't just someone that stole a Mandalorian's armor, Mando was taken to the enclave. For the first time in almost a year, he finally felt like he was home.

Being amongst Mandalorians once again, is what he needed. He finally could heal and maybe, just maybe, resolve the conflict that had been going on within him.

B. Honest living

It's days later, before he manages to extract himself from the enclave once again. With no small amount of reluctance. Even though he'd taken his comm with him, it had been switched off pretty much since he left. He hadn't wanted to be found. He needed to do this on his own. So any messages sent to him, went unanswered. Switching it back on, one of the first things he did, of course, was to send a message to Obi-wan asking how Grogu is. Before he checked for any other messages that may have been left.

He's not leaving the lower levels yet, however. Feeling far more comfortable down here, than he would in the upper tiers. Even though he knew the Agrii were some how providing credits, he didn't like having to depend on them for currency. The main way he knew how to do that? Bounty hunting, and down in these levels, it was easy enough to pick up bounty hunting jobs. Earning a fair amount of credits in only a few days.

C. Moving up.

Eventually he'll head up into the mid tier levels, checking out shops, and seeing what's available. At some point, he'll even get back to the original hangar they all started at. To check on what had been done since he was gone.

D. Wildcard

((Anything else you want to do? Or that we planned? Feel free to drop a starter. Or a line to me with an idea, and I'll write a starter for it.))

"Huh." Based on the colors alone Cobb thought whomever had owned the armor might have been a decent man. There was a lot to say about dedication to duty. He felt that. And the green cape he wore felt a little more appropriate though he wouldn't claim Mandalorian colors for himself even if he was curious.

Probably wasn't a good cultural move to take from these people right in front of them. Cobb had learned that lesson with the armor.

"Ma'am, do you speak Basic?" he asked the woman behind the stall as polite as he could. "I'd love to buy some of these spices from ya. This one here? Smells just like what I've been lookin' for."

The kind of spice that would burn the back of the throat and make your nose run. Coruscant did not appreciate spicy food enough.

I have no idea how Mando'a works, lol

Yeah, Cobb had figured he might need a translator. There were little pockets around Tatooine that only spoke Bocce or Huttese. It made sense this Mandalorian compound would speak their own language.

"Three pounds if she's got it?" He wouldn't use too much spice in cooking. And yeah, he planned to let others use it too but still three pounds of spice should go a long way once they got back. "Otherwise, I'll just take one."

He held up three fingers so the woman wouldn't feel like they were talking around her then got out the necessary credits. "Bought some seeds earlier while you were off on your own. I'm hoping they'll grow back on Tembra. One of 'em supposed to be a pepper."

And yes, he did plan to carry the bag while they walked around the Mandalorian market. Like carrying a mining haul back in the day. It wouldn't bother him.

Yeah, he knew it was a lot. Cobb had spent the last few days buying many things in bulk to take back. He was determined to make things on Tembra as comfortable as possible. A lot of these folks didn't seem interested in building something but he would.

While Mando's a little distracted with tea Cobb stepped over to the other stall with his back turned to Mando. "Yeah? What did you figure out?"

He hoped the more Mando talked the more distracted he'd be while picking out tea. Cobb had a little shopping to do that he didn't want Mando to see. Luckily, growing up a slave he knew how to hide his actions from prying eyes.

The vendor definitely overcharged him since he wasn't one of them but Cobb managed to get it done with Tusken hand signs and a bit of Huttese which luckily was still a common trade language.

Cobb was surprised to hear that. Mando seemed to steady and sure about his Creed when they talked about it in the Tusken camp. Something big must have happened for him to waiver a little. He wouldn’t ask about it in front of these Mandalorian, he didn’t want to make Mando look bad in front of his people, but another time when they were alone he would prod at it.

The little surprise for Mando was wrapped in a soft cloth and Cobb tucked it in his belt, hidden by the cape. He thanked the vendor and explained it was a surprise for his partner. Which actually got him a nod of approval.

Then Cobb was right back at Mando’s side like he’d never left the whole time he was considering tea. “Any idea how the kid’s doing? I haven’t seen him since he went off with Obi-Wan.”

They moved on to tea sets which Cobb looked over with interest. He still hadn’t been able to find a Tatooine style caf set. He really hoped to find one before they went back. If not, he’d have to see if anyone in the ships could make one from scrap metal.

"That's good. I bet the kid misses you something fierce. And he'll have a few new tricks to show you." Cobb had no idea what Jedi did up at that temple. He hadn't even gotten close to it. There was nothing he needed at that temple. Inner-peace wasn't meant for former slaves.

Cobb kept his thumb hooked in his belt as he looked over the tea sets. Yeah, none of those would work for Cobb's needs. What a shame. One of these days he'd find what he was looking for.

"I didn't come down here with any idea we'd be shopping," Cobb admitted with a chuckle. "So, I don't mind just wandering with you. What do you wanna show me?"

These were Din's people. Cobb didn't to insult anyone by wandering where an outsider wasn't welcome. He'd stick to Din's side and when the moment was right surprise him with the gift.

"Must be something you really missed that this place has."

"Aren't Jedi all about peace and understanding?" Cobb only knew the stories and in his few interactions with Obi-Wan had been pleasant. He sort of hoped the legendary warriors of the galaxy were nice when things were peaceful. "You come in peace to see your kid. They can't deny you. That's not very understandin' of 'em."

The longer they spent on Coruscant the more Cobb was reminded that this wasn't home. Yeah, the giant city covering the whole planet gave it away but the little things mattered too. Maybe he was just a silly old man about it but he missed the unrelenting heat and pouring sand out of his boots.

He nodded to the vendor with a polite smile even though he hadn't bought anything then he falls right into step with Mando again. They have a way of matching pace where ever they are.

He chuckled and raised an eyebrow. "I promise to be on my best behavior and keep my mouth shut." It wouldn't be a repeat of the Tusken Camp when he lost his temper being talked around like he wasn't there. Cobb could be a little more diplomatic this time. "You gonna tell me where we're going..."

Cobb cut himself off. "Huh. Probably not respectful to call you Mando around your own people. What do you want me to call you?"
heypartner: (Smile)

Yes! I'm totally cool with folks taking it.

[personal profile] heypartner 2021-03-22 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
As if anyone would confuse Cobb with a Jedi. He'd seen them walking around in their robes and such. He had armor and a blaster and no sense of another energy in the galaxy.

"If they don't, I can walk in there. I'll just borrow the kid for awhile." Cobb saw no problem with walking in, grabbing Grogu, and walking out. He wasn't a Mandalorian, what sort of protest could they raise to that? "If it comes to that. I don't think Obi-Wan will let it but... it's not right to keep a kid from his dad."

There was something deeply personal there that Cobb didn't want to touch right now but he'd absolutely help steal the kid back from the Jedi. Without hesitation.

"Well, Din, nice to meet you," he said with an easy smile. "Promise I won't use it around the others. Mando and partner only. Well, maybe the occasional friend."

If Din wanted to stay anonymous around the others, that was fine with Cobb. Some people didn't want to be known like that. There were folks back in Mos Pelgo who had changed their names after being freed to distance themselves from that time. Din had his reasons for protecting the name.

Cobb reached out and briefly squeezed Din's shoulder. The kid was clearly important to Din and it was hard to be apart from him. He assumed that was the cause of the hitch in Din's voice.

"You and I have a little bit more history than everyone else, partner." Cobb couldn't help the little bit of smugness in his voice. He liked being the first, liked knowing that Din trusted him a little bit more than everyone else. "Though, you should probably tell your kid if you haven't. I don't think Grogu can talk but shouldn't he know as well?"

Din might have a reason for not telling Grogu. Maybe something about the Creed but Cobb didn't think so. "Unless he already does. I guess I'm assuming a lot with that, huh?"

No matter what feelings he had Cobb really shouldn't assume he was somehow more important than Grogu. The kid came first.

Cobb had a smile for Din when he looked his way. The universe was an unforgiving place. It was even worse when they were getting jerked around by all powerful aliens. It was good to have someone trusted at your back. Cobb would be there for Din when he needed him and he trusted Din would do the same for him. It mattered that bond they shared.

"I guess I could've stuck with partner. But I'm glad to know you, Din." He might never see Din's face but he had his name. It was another little bit of trust between them. Cobb was careful with bonds but he couldn't deny this one.

He didn't want to.

"So, where we going now? You said it was somewhere I had to be on my best behavior." Cobb didn't think Mandalorians had temples like the Jedi but what did he know? Din's people were practically myth in his time. Most of what he knew before meeting Din were old stories and half of those were made up he had realized as he learned more and more.

If they were headed to some sort of sacred place, well, he would definitely keep his mouth shut and his head down.
