Cobb's Event Catch All | Open

This was not how Cobb imagined his first time off Tatooine. Then again, with his history, maybe he should have expected his first trip in space and to a Core world would be against his will. These Agrii fellas needed to learn to ask for permission. He would've said yes if they had asked. Instead, there was a little bubble of resentment brewing towards their alien captors.

But that anger could wait. A lot of people here had no idea how to navigate any planet in the galaxy much less one like Coruscant. Stars, even Cobb was a little out of his element but at least he could read the writing and understand how things worked in general. The first thing he focused on was getting everyone else settled and comfortable to go around by themselves. It was a lot of explaining how credit worked and offering to help if anyone needed it.

It took a few days before Cobb disappeared on his own one morning. The credits provided by the Agrii and the few he had on him when he got taken were burning a hole in his pocket. He went to the market and found himself some pieces of durasteel armor and a padded armor suit to wear underneath. It was, without a doubt, the nicest thing Cobb had ever owned, gleaming a brass-gold color against the black padded suit and soft green cloak he also bought to hide the scars that peeked out from the suit.

Damn if he didn't feel guilty for the two-thousand credits he handed over to buy it.

He just couldn't help but think of all the necessary things he could buy for home or this group of people at that cost. Two thousand credits would never got that far on Tatooine where everything was so damn expensive but it could've done something good. But after putting it all on he looked like he belonged on a Core world instead of an outsider in ragged clothes. Clothes he kept because they were still good enough for home and no one wasted anything on Tatooine. The armor though... wearing it he felt... like someone important and wasn't that a heavy thing?

Not only did the armor protect him and help him blend in, now he could get into better bars and taverns where they played high stakes sabacc. Cobb had learned his numbers playing the card game and was damn good at it. Good enough to win games against rich fools who tossed credits around like they could be dug up from the sand. That real vindictive part of himself really enjoyed it.

And everything he won now went to what they'd need to survive and anyone else who needed a few spare credits.

After all, he could always win more.

Compromise was not Cobb's strong suit.

"Yeah, been doin' a fair bit of that myself." Cobb hadn't bothered with bacta because he'd never had any before and done just fine. Sure, he had a few more scars but he had lived.

"Mostly dried goods and some seeds. Tools. Blankets. Things like that. Got told winter might happen which sounds miserable." Cobb huffed out a breath. Yeah, he was going to hate that. "You got a place where you want this stuff?"

He looked over the crates for the heaviest ones first. Those should always be on the bottom.

“That sounds very practical, and yes winter is a thing on Agra 10. Since you lived on Tatooine that will take some getting used to.” There is a slight melancholy that comes over Obi-Wan again as he picks up the box of holocrons.

It reminded him of Anakin, who had also grown up on the desert planet. The cold had been difficult to adjust to for him as well. But he pushed those thoughts aside and walked into the ship.

“Over there should be fine,” Obi-Wan says while indicating an empty spot. “Just mind the garden and Wanda’s sleeping space in the corner there.”

"Yeah, I figured as much." Cobb hefted one of boxes and followed Obi-Wan onto the ship. "Got myself plenty of scarves and a good pair of gloves. Better boots too."

He still appreciated Ezra saying something about boots otherwise he would've only had the one pair and they definitely weren't good for cold weather. All the preparation wouldn't prepare him for it though. Cobb had to live through it.

"Ain't that nice?" He said with a genuine little smile. He was still enchanted by green growth. "I got pipes everywhere but you folks got a garden."

Good thing he was moving off that ship as soon as they got back.

“Glad to hear it. Sounds like you are as prepared as you’re going to be.” Speaking of boots, Obi-Wan had gotten an extra pair himself, which he picks up along with the stack of clothes. Extra tunics, pants, cloaks, everything that he would need. Plus there were some miniature ones on top as well, meant for Grogu.

Carrying the clothes in, he placed them on the crate that Cobb had just brought in. “Yes, that’s Tommy’s pride and joy. I was met with threats not to touch it when I first arrived.” Which he easily complied with, but the Jedi too was quite fond of the little plants. The brightened up the space quite nicely, both physically and in the Force.

“How has space treated you? It’s quite cold up there as well.”

"I hate it," Cobb said with a little chuckle. "Feels like my fingers are never warm. Keep bangin' my head on the pipes in the ship. Can't even see the stars with all the lights on this planet."

After setting the crate down he dusted his hands off. "But, now I can say I've been to a Core world."

It wasn't a terrible trip. Cobb wasn't miserable. He had simply learned he wasn't one for Core worlds. He missed what was familiar. The closest he'd felt at home on Coruscant was when Mando showed him around the Mandalorian enclave. It was almost like home, almost.

"And we need these supplies. When we get back I'm gonna fix up place and start ranching those glownies for food. Make somethin' of that town even if no one else wants to." He went to get the next crate of supplies.

Sounded remarkably similar to Anakim’s complaints, but the boy had come around easily enough. Though he had been young, and Cobb wasnt anymore. He suspected it would be harder for him.

“Really? I look forward to seeing that.” Having a sustainable source of meat like that will make things easier. Seemed like Cobb had found himself a niche and was going to put his all into it. Yet again he found that admirable.

“I’m planning to make a temple for us when we get back. I have three students to train after all. Well, five now I suppose once they get old enough.”

He followed Cobb back out again and picked up the ornate box almost reverently. Taking it and the training lightsabers in to the ship.

Only time would tell if he would turn into a spacer. Right now? Cobb was set in his ways and Coruscant was awful in the long term.

"I don't think most people on these ships have any experience building a community." Cobb hefted the grate but he eyed the ornate box. Something important was in that. He wondered what but well, that was Jedi business. "I do. So, I'm gonna try it. Sometimes, you gotta lead by example."

Some other folks would help. Cobb knew Ezra was interested and he could count on Mando for sure. Anyone else? Well, he'd see about that.

"How are those kids doing?" he asked. "And miss Padme?"

Something important indeed, and Obi-Wan was considering where to put it so that it would be safe. “Most haven’t needed to, so it’s good that you have that experience. We will need that. Leading by example is the best way.” While Obi-Wan would be willing to help as well, he will have his hands full as it is.

“They’re all doing quite well, actually.” Which was a huge relief. “Though I admit I’m a bit concerned about bringing newborns to Agra 10. I was thinking of purchasing a medical droid. We could use one, particularly with such young ones coming into our little community.”

"No time like now to learn." Cobb hefted the crate on top of the first one. He made sure both were secure and wouldn't shift around in flight.

That was good to hear. He hadn't spent much time with Padme before the babies showed up but what time he had was good. She was a decent person as far as he could tell.

"I guess that's not a bad idea. Can you afford a good one?" But Cobb didn't like droids all that much, especially medical droids. Unless they were droids like Cayde. He liked that guy. "Stars, should probably fix up a place for her and the kids first. Wanna make sure they've got somewhere safe and warm that ain't a ship."

Yeah, his dreams of a home again would have to wait. Those little ones had to come first.

“I suppose we shall see. If there’s a limit to these cards the Agrii gave us I’m certain I will find out.” He wasn’t sure what the medical droids of this time were like beyond the ones he saw in the temple, but he would get the best and most up to date this time had to offer if he could.

“And not to worry, Padme and the twins will be living with me in the temple. I’ll make certain they have everything they need. Though a little support from the community always goes a long way.” A smile was passed to Cobb as he said that. He was a good man, and the Jedi found himself liking him more and more.

Standing at the top of the ramp, he then paused. The canisters of bacta had been uncovered and they would be the heaviest. Instead of breaking their backs he closed his eyes an concentrated. Holding out his hands he caused them to lift from the cart.

"You can take my card. I haven't been using it much. Anything on there is yours." Cobb didn't like droids but he couldn't deny their usefulness. A medical droid would be a help.

That was good to hear. The Jedi had a plan. A maybe some familiarity with Padme? It hadn't escaped Cobb's notice that those two had been together since the birth and Obi-Wan seems pretty protective. There was a story there. "Takes a village to raise a child."

He folded his arms across his chest as he watched the display of Jedi powers. Well, that was... definitely easier. And impressive. "I'm guessing not everyone can learn to do that, huh?"

Not that Cobb wanted to move things with his mind. Eh, maybe a little. Everyone who's been powerless wants power sometimes, right?

At the offer of giving him his card, Obi-Wan is a bit astonished. The surprise evident in his face for a moment which then melts into a warm smile. A truly selfless gesture, one that a Jedi could certainly appreciate. “That’s very generous of you, thank you.” A village indeed, the Jedi at the temple were not so different.

As he moved the canisters into the hold though, they just slowly floated by as Obi-Wan directed them. Carefully being placed down on the floor next to the crates. Once they were settled, he opened his eyes with a chuckle.

“No, I’m afraid not. Not unless you were born with a sensitivity to the Force.”

"I've got what I need and I ain't using it for much else." Cobb still wasn't comfortable buying something for himself that had no practical use. He even felt a little vain and guilty picking out nice leather gloves for winter instead of rougher and cheaper gloves.

He figured without the card he'd feel better. Spending his own earned credits did sit easier with him. That, at least, he had earned.

"Pretty sure that one skipped me." Cobb couldn't claim he'd ever felt something like that in his life. He pulled his card from his belt pouch and held it out to Obi-Wan. "And I think one of you Jedi types would've noticed by now if I was. Just gonna have to keep doing things the old fashioned way."

Taking the card, he gave the man another grateful smile. He didn't have to do that at all, and were it not for the fact that they were coming to the end of their stay, he probably wouldn't have accepted. But he could make use of it in the event his own card ran out, which he hadn't really been using much either.

"Certainly nothing wrong with that," Obi-Wan said as he went back to the cart and picked up the last few remaining things that were on it. He would have another load later, but this had some of the heaviest stuff. And if he bought a droid, it could help him with the other things.

"On Tatooine I was having to learn to do without, myself."

It being the end of the trip Cobb didn't see the point in keeping it. It wouldn't do them much good once they got back home. Cobb would keep the credits he'd won. He wasn't going to throw away all that money but the card? Sure.

"I can imagine Jedi powers might be a slight advantage but even then Tatooine just requires hard work." Cobb's home planet was unforgiving and it didn't matter if you were a mystical warrior or not.

"Where you from?" he asked, "Like your home planet in this galaxy of ours."

Because he was curious. He knew where Echo was from. Knew where Mando was from. No one had any clue for Grogu.

"Yes it does. You should have seen me trying to fix the old vaporator I found." Which... hadn't gone as well as he would have liked. But he managed to get it running at the very least. After some blood, sweat and tears. While he was capable with machine, he was certainly no Anakin Skywalker.

"Well, my family is from Stewjon. But I was brought to the temple when I was three years-old so I hardly remember it. So I consider Coruscant my home planet, actually. And yes, it was my choice."

He's been asked that by a few people already so he's just jumping to the conclusion that Cobb will ask the same. Better to just get that out of the way.

"I've got no idea where that is." Cobb's galactic knowledge was very lacking. He knew the major planets and many outer rim planets but anything else was a gap in his knowledge. He simply didn't know. "What rim is that?"

Cobb shook his head. "I figured it was willin'."

If the Jedi were kidnapping kids to form their ranks they wouldn't be legendary heroes. And he knew better than anyone else what it looked like when someone was taken away from their family against their will. Obi-Wan didn't have that energy.

And he has a good head on his shoulders. Obi-Wan is liking this fellow more with each passing minute.

"It's on the far edge of the mid rim." So not quite in the Outer Rim, but close to it. It was pretty far out in the Republic's territorial reaches. Kind of out in the middle of nowhere, but still with better access than Tatooine.

"You've lived your whole life in Tatooine, right? Were you born there as well?"

Yeah, even that close to the Outer rim Cobb had never heard of it. Maybe he should've spent some time on Coruscant studying up on the galaxy at large, catch up on some history but... nope.

"Yeah, I was born in Mos Espa." And Cobb figured that was enough to have Obi-Wan guess the rest of his story. Mos Espa was pretty well known for its slave communes. Most of which were humans.

The Jedi seemed like the sort not to ask for more than that. Not that Cobb would answer in more detail if Obi-Wan did ask. "Eventually settled in a little town called Mos Pelgo where I met Mando."

When Cobb mentions that he was born in Mos Espa, a certain realization dawns upon him. He blinks at the msn before grimacing slightly in sympathy. “Oh... oh I see.”

No he doesn’t ask more. He doesn’t have to as Anakin had come from Mos Espa. He had spoken about the slaves there many times. While Obi-Wan hadn’t seen it for himself, he knew enough. He knew the mark that slavery had left on his former Padawan. But Cobb had obviously been freed at some point if he had been able to settle somewhere else.

“And how did the two of you manage to cross paths in a not so proverbial middle of nowhere?”

Yeah, that was most decent peoples reaction. The ugly open secret of the galaxy. Slavery was illegal even under the Empire and yet, it was every where out in the Outer rim. No one liked to talk about it though.

"Well, at the time I had a suit of beskar armor." Cobb sat himself down on one of the tougher looking crates. "And when Mando figured out I wasn't actually a Mandalorian like him he wanted it back. I made him a deal. If he helped me kill a greater krayt dragon, he could have it back. And he did."

It was a great story. "Let the thing swallow him and a bantha carrying explosives and blew the thing from the inside. One of the most heroic things I've ever seen and one of the stupidest."

Slavery had been illegal in the Republic as well, though he had crossed paths with slavers more than once. Had even been captured by them and had a taste of it himself. Not even a Jedi was immune to such a fate if they landed in the wrong situation.

As Cobb tells his story though, Obi-Wan remains standing though his hand quietly rests on his chin as he listens. Eyebrows shooting up in surprise when the part about the dragon came up.

“He killed a krayt dragon? One of the bigger ones? Mando has more gumption than I realized.” He is quite impressed as that’s certainly not an easy feat. In fact it’s downright legendary to single-handedly take down such a beast.

"Well, he had some help softening it up," Cobb said with a little chuckle. "Got some Tuskens and my town to help him. He did get the killing shot though."

And that moment seeing Din fly out of the dying beast's mouth was pretty wedged into Cobb's memory along with the way his heart had raced and he couldn't help but grin at the victory.

"We had a great party that night." Not that Din stuck around for it. He got his piece of dragon flesh and then was gone. Their paths had crossed again though. In a strange and better way than he had hoped for.

Not gonna think to hard on that in front of the Jedi. Cobb remember stories of Jedi being able to read minds.

"I'm sure you did. That's quite the community effort."

And while Jedi could definitely read minds, most of the time they made efforts not to. But it was pretty easy to pick up on some of Cobb's feelings even then. The two were obviously very good friends at the very least.

"Now if we can get everyone on Agra 10 to work together in such a way, we will have it made I think." They had quite the variety of talents. But while they did help each other out from time to time, there was still some room for improvement there.

"That's all you've got on Tatooine. It's very hard to survive without community." It was doubly important to the slave community. All they had were each other and often, they had no idea how long that would last.

Yeah, good friends. That was where they were at.

"My plan when we get back is to start buildin' and see who joins in." Cobb didn't expect everyone to help. He only expected a handful of people gave a damn in the first place. "I figure I fix up enough places people will move in anyway. Shouldn't be living on ships."

And not just because Cobb kept banging his head on pipes.
