EVENT: COME YOU KNEE CAY SHUN + SHIPS + CREW

The night might be long on Agra 10 but at least it’s been quiet and restful, so far. But all of that is now about to change.

It’s only been dark for a few hours when, suddenly, the sun comes back out. Or - wait, it isn’t the sun. You’re bathed in light, but it’s not the same light as the sun you’re used to. It’s also accompanied by whirring and metallic groans. It’s artificial light, coming from all over the city.

Temba is alive.

All the work on the power plant in the distance has brought it back to life. Power is now running to all the buildings and the water treatment plant is even gurgling. The fountain in the square where you arrived is even spouting in a complicated but beautiful pattern. Thanks to the work done by our heroes, we have running water once more! Some engineering folk might need to work on the piping to get it into rooms but at least it’s there and at least it’s clean.

But that’s not all that is happening.

When you woke up, you found that the Agrii have gifted you with a communications device. It seems like someone came in and left it somewhere near you - maybe on your bedside table (or whatever passes for it), but it is just as likely to have been deposited somewhere a little less proper. Like your face. (Look, you don't know how these are getting to you, but it seems they have terrible aim.) Either way, you now have a small, mostly transparent tablet with icons on it. The icons are:

NET WORK. - [A net on a cyan background] - (Hey! They almost spelled this one right!) The network for now is a place where you can make and read a feed of videos, live broadcasts, and static messages. Anything posted to the Net is seen by every comm as well as by the Agrii. So be careful what you post!

DICK SHUN AIRY. - [A triad of hexagons arranged like a ... is that what you think it is? on a green background] - Of course. Opening this leads to a list that is filled in with all the heroes have discovered about the flora and fauna on this planet. Some even have pictures of the heroes as they tend the crops. And ... wait. Are those entries for the heroes themselves, too? Is that you?

HE ROW COME YOU KNEE CAY SHUN. - [An Agrii smiley on a bright pink background] - What this means is anyone’s guess but it appears to be a way of directly talking to the Agrii. Will they respond? Will we learn more about them? Come you knee kate and find out!

MASS SAGES. - [A cross and leaves on an orange background] - (Which means they know what sage is! Who wants to ask the Soup Lies for some spices?) Opening this allows you to select another person’s comm and send a private message. Or what you hope is private. No saying what the Agrii can see or not see at this point.

CREW. - [A space ship on a purple background] - The icon is both spelled correctly and confusing. Crew? What crew? What is going on?

You’re about to find out.

As you look at your comm, the SMILEY FACE icon lights up. You press it and the screen fills up with the same smiley that you’ve seen the whole time. This one, somehow, looks even more happy and self-satisfied. It doesn’t move at all as a high pitched - yet also strangely monotone - voice starts to speak. Each word is enunciated by the syllables and stilted, but the message can be understood as this:

GREET THEY, HE-ROES. US BRING OBJECT TO THEY FOR TALK. TALK! TALK WITH WE AT TIMES ANY! US LEARN FROM THEY. US THANK THEY! TEMBA GOOD MORE THAN BE-FORE HE-ROES. US THANK THEY MUCH.

TO HELP THEY WE GIVE SUP-PLIES. SUP-PLIES NOT GOOD. US HELP BAD-LY. WE LEARN HELP GOOD-LY FROM HE-ROES. HE-ROES SHOW WE THE RIGHT.

US GET A-TRO-MA SHIPS FOR THEY. US MAKE CREW. THEY GO AS CREW TO GET SUP-PLIES FROM OTH-ERS. WE FIND WORL-DS. WE SEND THEY. WE HELP BY SEND THEY TO HELP THEY-SELVES. UNTIL US LEARN.

US MAKE CREW SOON. US HELP CREW BOND. THEY TRAV-EL SOON. PREPARE.

PREPARE. PREPARE. PREPARE. PREPARE.

THANK.
WE AGRA.

What this means becomes clear as soon as you follow the sound of metal scraping metal and come to the now opened hangar. There sit six ships. Ships that some might find familiar. They were ships that once bore the names Bishop, Bloodsport, First Breath, Vanquish, Twin Roses, and Starduck. They are the ships some of the people around you travelled in for years back in the Drift Fleet now brought back here in their original state. Waiting for you.

You and your crew.

So here’s what opened up, everyone:

Network Posts: Hooray, communicators! You can now use these to post to the NET WORK using the app provided by the Agrii. Closed person-to-person communication is also available, as is (possibly) direct communication with the Agrii themselves. Just indicate on your post to the community the level of security on the character's post. (e.g., OTA, Closed, Agrii, etc.)

Two new expertises: Communication and Piloting (the data points are at the comm tower and outside the hangar, respectively). Communication will allow the character to effortlessly translate any language they come to. They are also the only ones who can work the communication software and set up new Networks or a way to communicate from land to ship. Pilots know how to fly the ships and also have the ability to work on the ship. They will download the Atroma knowledge of upgrades.

Upgraded Ships: Upgrades you say? Yes. The ships are basic now but will be getting new, exciting upgrades. Here is their basic layout from The Drift Fleet:

Bunking
A new ship starts with a capacity of five crew members, all of which share one bunk room (two sets of bunked beds with a single cot inscribed with the word "captain" on the frame), and small lockers for belongings. The bathroom utilities consist of one closet-style toilet, and a pair of showerheads in a separate shower room. There are no dividers between showers, and there are ten minutes of hot water available each hour. There is no established captain so it’s up to you to decide if you want one or if that bunk just goes to whoever gets it first.

Dining
Standard dining and recreation is limited to a one-table galley, which doubles as a the central seating area. Appliances include a beverage dispenser (water, tea, cola, orange-flavored drink), microwave heating device, small combination refrigerator/freezer, and a basic formed-protein food dispensing unit. Protein comes in both soft-solid and liquid-gel textures (something like tofu and gel toothpaste). There are a dozen flavors available: chicken, wheat, mixed vegetable, cheddar, spicy chili, teriyaki, peanut butter, cinnamon, chocolate, vanilla, banana, and unflavored. It is dispensed at room temperature, but can be warmed in the microwave or chilled in the refrigerator.

Recreation
There is a treadmill set up in the cargo bay for exercise needs. Have fun!

Did you miss protein gel? It’s back!

New FAQ are coming for the ships now that they are released but feel free to ask until they're posted.

Cohorts have been made and are as follows:

  • SANSA, TOMMY, VASH, WANDA, KRISTA

  • DELTA, WINTER, PHALANX, CONNOR, BILLY, THRAWN

  • CAROL, LANCE, CLINT, KATARA, ELI, JAMES

  • GARAK, VISION, RAYLA, JULIAN, STEVE

  • JADZIA, BUCKY, NOCTIS, TYRION, ALTAIR

  • HUX, LEONARD, KEITH, NATASHA, LOKI

For now, just get to know your cohorts. Your comm will display their names as your crew but provide no more information.

-At this point, feel free to have your characters affect the previous areas however they wish as, going forward, we will be assuming they are functional due to the heroes' actions.

PLOT PART 2 WILL BE LANDING AFTER AC IS COMPLETED.

PREPARE. PREPARE. PREPARE.

THANK YOU for hanging in there - we know this is a lot! If you have any questions or concerns feel free to ask us in a PM to the mod journal, ping us on plurk, or reply to this post!

Woohoo!

... Delta will be taking the Communications augment, and would like to know if he can change his text color to Green?

Excellent, thank you!

Follow-up question: Do network users have usernames they can display? If not, how does one tell who the communication is coming from? If there are usernames, are they also customizable?

For example, if Delta wanted to post something on the network, would it say it was from his self-chosen callsign (leprechaun), his actual name as it appears in his game tag (Delta), another identifier like his serial number (LLC-0036-5D)?

Do the tablets have voice to text capabilities (even sort of terrible ones)?

Oh good! Time to induce confusion with every post.

Are characters allowed to switch ships? I know some dumbass who's probably going to go nuts without his boyfriend.

Are the characters allowed to have sleepovers at other ships, at least?

Alrighty. Here's hoping.

[personal profile] thrawnsaide 2019-09-29 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
All of this would be good to know as well. Since Eli is used to serving beside Thrawn as his aide.

Thank you so much :)

The Twin Roses 8D Vash has secretly missed the ship he use to captain on!

According to the FAQ characters will be able to switch back and forth between expertises, so long as they forget the previous one to learn the new one. My question is, is there a limit to how often they can switch, or are there any side effects should a character want to switch around so their expertise will be more useful depending on the situation at hand?
tailorspy: (Default)

[personal profile] tailorspy 2019-09-30 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Hell yes, I'm all here for potential/delayed side effects. Uhuhuhu.

At the moment are all the Data Points on the planet/in town? Or are the new Data Points on the ships?

So a general question (or a few) about expertise...

1. Gaining an expertise wouldn't make someone forget their natural skills, right? So if Bones wanted to do piloting for example, he wouldn't forget how to be a doctor would he? (I'm guessing not, but just making sure.)
2. Do we know what other expertises have been unlocked?
3. Is there a page for this and/or a page to sign up for one? I didn't see one on the mod journal.

Thanks!
