FIRST

The noise at first made its way into Catra's dreams, distant, something she wasn't quite aware of as the world twisted around her, dreams becoming nightmares. The noise became more and more apparent, Catra tossing and turning before awaking in a foul mood.

She pressed her ears flat against her head with a sullen frown. What was that??? The source wasn't immediately apparent, but she had a good guess, stalking her way towards the forge. Tony was usually the one responsible for ungodly noises doing whatever it was he did in there.

"Turn it offfff," she growled, letting herself in, tail twitching and swaying in irritation behind her.


AND THEN

Catra ran, sometimes on two legs, sometimes on all fours, trying to escape the noise, trying to stop it. And in her irrational state she concluded anyone and anything in her way must be the source of it. She pounced out of the blue, eyes wild, and claws sharp. Hope you're ready for the chase, little mouse. Catra isn't going to listen to reason right now.

Jon notices the pause in Catra and he has just opened his mouth to say something when she kicks him again, tearing another noise of pain from the man rather than actual words.

But he does try to grab a hold of her foot, eyes focused on her despite the pain and Jon forces himself to form proper words again and actually willingly summons his compulsion into his words directed at her. "Catra. What- What is wrong with you? Tell me!"

She moves to stomp again, that'll get him to let go- when that compulsion stills her.

"Nnn- noise...the noise- It won't stop."

She pants with the effort of getting those words out, ears pinned back low.

"What. Noise?" Jon presses further, his tone sharp and eyes fixed on Catra while he slowly pushes himself into a more upright position again. Clearly the last thing he needs is another of those kicks to knock him back down. Catra may appear small, but the catgirl is strong.

"I don't know. The noise! It's so loud- it hurts- I can't-...the noise!" She doesn't know how else to explain it. Why can't he hear it? Why can't any of them hear it?

"An aggravating noise doesn't apologize hurting people, Catra!" Jon points out, letting go of her and taking a step backwards, eyes still on her. "Listen. I will try to figure this out. I will try to help you, but- Please try to hold it together, okay?"

Her eyes narrow, the noise pushing its way back to the forefront of her mind, hardly seeming to hear his words at first, looking like she might pounce any second as he backs away, and she hisses in answer, swiping at him before darting away.
