[It's a kick he takes, gauging how strong her strike is while using it to take advantage of the space for the split-second she allows it. He's ready for her attack, and he's sparred against his brother plenty of times to be comfortable with fighting someone who uses a staff.

He catches the stick between the prongs of his sai, pushing it down as he swings out with his own kick towards her side, trying to catch her off guard.]
