Adventuring in Space

WHO: Cloud Strife, Everyone on board the Twin Roses (Tommy, Wanda, Sansa, Soldier), Anyone coming over to visit them!
WHERE: Twin Roses, network, any other ship if needed, where ever everyone else is,
WHAT: Space flying, whatever everyone wants to do, have fun
WHEN: During the space event and going off planet!
WARNINGS: No warnings so far...

Cloud made sure to nab someone that had the pilot datapoint to chart their ship to where they needed to go. He felt a little guilty in switching datapoints but the security one might be more useful. They didn't know what they could be heading towards and fighting might have to happen. He could protect the people on the ship. For now he's wandering around the ship trying to get used to being in space. It's different and he's not sure how he overall feels about it just yet. He knew that Cid would be losing his mind about even being in space. Cloud kept quiet as he glances out a window into the view of space. The reality of the feeling seemed weird. Maybe it would sink in a bit more as he stood there.

Cloud could be doing something on the ship, a chore, anything. But instead he's being quiet, mostly observing, looking around in spots of the ship that maybe he shouldn't be venturing into. Do you need him for something?

He might be in the recreation room using the treadmill early thinking that no one is around. Cloud will get off and start doing squats as part of a routine exercise. Doesn't matter who joins him here people of the crew or even visitors can sneak up on him.

The dining area is the last place he'll before turning in during the evening hours.

The problem with these ships? They were way too cramp. But that was the problem with them the LAST few times Tommy got locked in one. He still wasn't appreciative of it, actually. The second problem? Just how many things the cargo bay had to double as. On most ships it was just that. A cargo by with their minimal 'rec room' usage of a treadmill. On the Twin Roses? There was a lot more going on. For one thing, it was here that the Twin Roses sported its one of a kind cargo bay. For another, it's where Wanda sometimes slept to keep distance from the minds of the others. And for a third?

It's where Tommy went when he was out of his mind with stress and energy. Where he was now in fact. Where he was now as he tended to the twisting, curling, vividly green vines of one of his plants, this one something like a pea plant in how it grew, but that produced pods full of mushy pink fruits that he was certain would be good for Sansa and baby James.

And it was where Tommy was watching Cloud doing squats. With a roll of his eyes. Plus an audible chuckle over just how few the guy was managing in a minute. Horrible. And his form could be better too.

"Dude, you need to get deeper with your squats."

And here we have the complete opposite of quiet.

It's up in the air as to whether Cayde was given full rein of one of the shuttles because otherwise he'd just drive the rest of his crew batty or he just plain snuck off with it before it could cool down from another trip out. The Exo intends to make his rounds, whether he knows people aboard these ships or not. Because so long as they're flying at super-slow-speeds? He'll take any scenery change he can get.

"Knock-knock!" he calls out as he all but bounds aboard- provided someone's allowed him entrance, otherwise this'll be a short trip.

Green Thumb

Listen, it wasn’t like Tommy to be grateful for things that Tony Stark did for him. Their relationship was a complicated one. There were reasons to hate him. There were reasons to like him. There’s reasons to hate him. It’s just... A mess. But for this? Tony’s put himself back into the good pile, because Tommy’s got greens. Which means that a portion of each day is spent tending to the plants. First thing in the mornings Tommy could always be found hanging out by the hydroponics unit, inspecting each plant, each leaf, each runner.

And of course, there is plenty of time for people to harass him. Not like he can’t do the work later.

Stir Crazy

Claustrophobia. It’s the worst part of all of this for Tommy. Small spaces, metallic in origin, that he was in sort of against his will. To be able to roam was what he really wanted. But if he helped the Agri, maybe they would bring Vision back for Wanda. Or send her to her husband. That’s all he wanted. People to be safe and secure.

For now, though, he was wandering around. What more could he do?

So when not visiting other ships, Tommy was often found wandering around the ship. Constantly. Had people thought that Tommy was annoying and bounced around before? They were wrong. This time Tommy had subjected himself to this horror, so yeah, he was more on edge than ever. If only there was something, or someone, to distract him...

Ever since Calibrations Steve had been more or less distracted. First there was the whole fact that Calibrations had happened. Then there was the SOS and getting ready. And now there was Bucky's disappearance. It hadn't been a good time to track down people for a talk, but that didn't mean talks didn't have to happen.

Steve doesn't mean to run into Tommy. He is on the ship just to try and get out of his mind for a bit and to get away from reminders of what is missing and who. He visits Wanda and Sansa and the baby. And then... Then he runs into Tommy.

Literally.

"Oh! Sorry," he says quickly before seeing who it is. His face stays still as memories come back and words unsaid seem to stack up from the weeks of distance. He swallows and tries a small smile. "Sorry, Tommy. You out for a walk?"

Steve is, frankly, using James Stark as a distraction. The baby allows him to not think about everything from the last few days and gives him a few moments of peace as he is his sole guardian. It also allows Sansa to be out and about so it helps everyone. To that end, he stays close. Just in case.

He had just finished up with a session of babysitting but the new system was going to be coming up soon. Useful to stay near just in case Sansa needed help. Where to go, then? Someplace else with a distraction! The rec room!

He walks in and sees the treadmill in use before pausing and thinking about maybe going to the kitchen instead. But he remembers this guy from Calibrations. Storm? No. No, it was something else...

"Cloud!" he remembers. He smiles and waves a bit as he walks over. "It's Steve. I don't think we had a real, physical meeting yet."

Steve. Tommy might have seen him there if he was focusing. But he wasn’t. At least he hadn’t been going full speed. Good way to splatter someone.

But yeah. Rogers. Rogers who saw some of the bad parts of Tommy’s life. Fuck.

“Cap,” he greets with a sigh. “Came to visit Wanda I’m guessing?”

"No, No." Well. "I mean, I did. But I also came to see you." He's a bad liar and he knows it. Time to just fess up.

"Bucky is...He's gone. I've been going around trying to think about some other things. I don't know that I was really coming to see anyone. But I am glad to see you. I've been meaning to catch up.

"How are you?"

Oh. So Cap’s lost someone too.

“Cap Scruffy is gone? Sorry.”

He gets it. It hurts. Must be worse when you love someone like that. But no, he didn’t expect someone was going to want to see him. He knows better than to believe that.

“You’re not here for me. You’re just pitying me now that you saw me. Thanks. I don’t much care for that shit.”

Steve looks down but doesn't have long to really dwell on his own broken heart. Tommy keeps talking and Steve knows he's on borrowed time before the kid runs away.

"Hey. I just said, I wasn't here for really anything. But we ran into each other now and I do want to talk with you. I have for awhile."

He exhales guiltily.

"I should have sought you out before. I'm sorry."

Have for a while. Which is why Steve had basically been Persona Incognito since being in Tommy’s mind. He doesn’t buy it.

“Don’t apologize, dude. My trouble is a lot of bullshit for people to put up with. So stop pretending I do anything but make you uncomfortable.”

"Hey!" Steve reaches out to hold Tommy's shoulder before remembering and letting it go. Still, he moves a little closer and tries to put into his voice all the sincerity he has. "Hey, Tommy. That is not what happened. You do not just make me uncomfortable, okay? I care about you. And I care about what I saw."

He steps back a little and gives Tommy space. This is his trauma that Steve was exposed to. It wasn't his choice and Steve wasn't going to force him into discussing it.

"I want to talk about it with you. Not if it hurts you or if you don't want to. But...if you can, I want to talk about what I saw.

"I want to help."

Help? Tommy glares at that word more than the unwelcome touch. Who the fuck did Cap think he was? What did he think he was going to do?

“You don’t know me. And there isn’t helping. You can’t fix the fucking past!”

Not even Billy could do that.

"You're right," he keeps his voice even but louder so Tommy can definitely hear. "You're right, you can't fix the past.

"And you can't change it or protect it or ignore it because it will always be there, Tommy. Our mistakes and our triumphs are the ground we're built on. I don't have the history you do but I know what it's like to bury something that hurts, hoping that kills it."

He tries to reach for Tommy again, broadcasting the movement so he can avoid it easily.

"Nothing kills it. The only thing to do is make peace. I want to help however I can with that."

In a way it was amusing that Cap thought he needed to broadcast his movements. There was no way he could ever move fast enough for Tommy to not avoid, not even at this range.

But he lets Steve touch him. Because it might get the guy to shut up sooner. And when he’s done Tommy just shakes his head.

“There’s no peace, Rogers, when your life is a war zone. You don’t know anything about this. About them or what they did. What anyone did. And you can’t. You’re captain fucking America. Everyone fucking loves you. Everyone fucking wants you. There is no way a guy like you knows how to help this shit. Time. Time buries everything. And for me there is more time than you can imagine.”

"Yeah. Everyone wants Captain America. People don't usually care as much about Steve Rogers."

It's not the same but it runs along a similar road. Steve gives his arm a light squeeze.

"I was never abused. You're right. I don't know anything about a parent doing to their child what yours did to you. It was evil and it was wrong and you weren't to blame for that. I saw it and you didn't do a damn thing to deserve what they did to you. But I didn't live it and I don't know what that's like.

But what I do know, too well, is that time buries nothing. You'll be waiting until the end of the universe for it to stop hurting if you don't look it in the eye."

“You saw two moment. You don’t know that I didn’t deserve it!” Tommy snaps, three steps back in the blink of an eye. And at the same time he slashed his hand through the air, which is accompanied by the walls around them shaking, just a little.

The anger had shoved power through the air, just a little. But his explosions aren’t available to him, so happy news.

“My soul comes from a fucking DEMON. Don’t tell me I don’t deserve this.”

"You were a child," Steve argues back. "You were a child! There is nothing you could have done to deserve being starved and punched, Tommy! Nothing. They were wrong."

He isn't afraid. Tommy doesn't scare him. He steps closer, hands up and empty.

"It doesn't matter where your soul comes from. It matters what you do with it. And there is nothing that I have seen you do that makes me think you're anything but a good person trying to do the right thing. Just like all of us."

Stop having faith in him. Tommy hates it. Steve doesn’t even know anything about all of this.

“I blew up my school.”

There. That should get this sanctimonious asshole off his back.

[ There is more to the story than just that. Steve knows there has to be. ]

Why? Was it intentional?

Why the fuck does everyone ask that? Tommy glowers at the other. How dare he?

“Sure as fuck went to jail for it. Super juvie is fun. They try and turn you into a weapon for assassinations.”

"I didn't ask if you were convicted for it. I asked why you did it. And if you meant to."

Geez, the guy wasn’t ever going to understand.

“Because I make explosions. It’s what I do. Fast, and manipulating molecular structures.”

Still not an answer, right?

"That is what you can do. And what your powers allow you to do. That's not all you do. Really, I would say it's what your powers do to you until you're able to actually control it."

Steve wants to know the facts of this event and he's not going to stop until he does.

"Were you able to control it, then? Did you intentionally blow up that school?"

Dammit he’s so fucking annoying. Tommy glares, and he wishes there was a point to swinging at the man. But Steve could actually take it.

“What the actual fuck is wrong with you?” Tommy snaps, hands fisting at his side. “Someone tells you they blow up a building and injure people and kill a guy and you care why? Why doesn’t fucking matter!”

Fucking asshole.

"Why is the only thing that matters!"

Steve gives Tommy the space he needs, clearly, but doesn't back off.

"There is a difference between an abused boy with no support losing control in an accident and someone calculating an attack in order to murder people.

"You talked about your soul? Your soul is the why. Actions alone mean nothing in a vacuum. They tell you nothing. Who you are and what you want to be is all in the why."
