You can't hide from your problems | Calibrations

WHO: Billy Kaplan, OPEN
WHERE: Billy's Calibration Room
WHAT: Calibrations
WHEN: 3 June - 10 June
WARNINGS: Potential Warnings for Violence, Depression, Death and Suicide, but also some happy things

The room you step into isn't all that different from Billy's actually room back home, for those that know it. It looks like the room of a typical nerdy teenager, walls adorned with posters of his favourite heroes, and a desk cluttered with unfinished homework. There's shelves with books, and assorted action figures, as well as a few old games- like operation, which don't seem to have gotten much attention lately, covered in a layer of dust.

Billy lays on his bed with an assortment of comics, reading through them, though when he glances up you might note that his eyes are wrong. All black with fields of stars, like you can see the depths of universe in them.

He curls a finger, and a box beneath the bed scoots further back into the darkness.

"..." That's a very audible loss of words the Archivist finds himself facing. Now he really isn't sure if he should be amazed or feel intimidated. And how on Earth has he been able to stop someone as powerful as Billy?

"...I... I'm not sure what to say, Billy." Jon tries. "But- I- I think I'm glad you want to help?"

"Demiurge..." Jon repeats the name, then gives a little nod. "S-sure. Let's see it."

It is a lot, yes. But this is Jon, the Archivist. Of course he wants to see everything.

If this memory make one thing abundantly clear, it's that Billy wields some very powerful magic - And that he is surrounded by equally remarkable friends.

And yet the Archivist can't help but feel that he understands Billy's language of magic. Not in a way that allows him to translate words, but he understands...

"...Mother..." Jon mutters the monster's name with a frown while following the battle taking place above and around them. It sure is a lot. A lot that these kids had to deal with before having a chance to grow up. Jon casts Billy a sympathetic, yet silent look before he is pulled further into the memory.

And again, they find Billy.

"...a- are you alright...?" Jon asks, worry edged into his voice and he looks back and forth between the Billy leading him and the one from the memory. It's not entirely clear which one he's asking, but the Billy from the memory may not be able to hear them to begin with. It's a memory after all. This... This has already happened.

No, it shouldn't be possible for this other Billy to see him. And being looked at this directly by a memory catches the Archivist off-guard, almost causing Jon to take a step back.

But he is kept from doing so by the answer coming from the other Billy - And the appearance of the other boy.

What follows yet is surprisingly sweet, considering all the fighting happening before and Jon can't quite help the little smile from making its way onto his face. Love, huh? There is something to be said here about clichés, but Jon doesn't exactly mind it either. It's nice. And maybe he is a bit of a hopeless romantic at heart, but- That's not bad either, right?

Jon can't let himself be carried away by that entirely, however. Not with what happens then. So this is Billy's power. It's equally incredible and intimidating and somehow this Billy seems to at least know what he is supposed to do with it.

And he uses it to safe his friends - Probably not only them.

The Archivist is caught still staring in wonder when the memory addresses him and Jon's focus is suddenly entirely on the boy. This time he does take a sputtering step back. "W-what-?" He quickly looks over to the Billy that is showing him this memory, wordlessly hoping for an explanation for what is happening. "...Billy?"

A good part.

Jon isn’t sure he wants to laugh about that, but ultimately only looks a little flustered between the two Billy’s before settling on the memory and offering a nod. “I- I hope to be.” But he doesn’t think he can truly promise anything. There are still too many doubts he has regarding himself.

He still tries to smile a little and looks back to the Billy he knows from Temba. “Thanks... For showing me this.”
