An Echidna in Temba

Knuckles was definitely frustrated that the original plan of Temba might not work out. He could see how it might not, and why, but it was still discouraging. He had opted to go back there and has been pretty much just wandering around, seeing how everything looks now and wondering if there's any point continuing to try to put anything together.

A lot of his time ends up being spent dealing with the wild animals coming into the city and trying to help about the missing Frondlings. At least he's had practice doing the latter sort of thing when he had to look for lost animals back home on Angel Island.

Well, at least there might be ways to help. Here's Reeve, standing outside of the hotel, working on trying to haul a load of wood planks in with the help of Mini-C. Unfortunately the man is clearly not the strongest there is. Who knows how well that is going to go. Actually, it's clear that it won't be going anywhere with the way he's currently set up. At least not fast.

Knuckles certainly notices and heads over.

"You're never going to get it in that way."

"I was never one with strength," Reeve says with a sigh. But he's also just trying his best here. He got it this far, but there's something rougher with the ground here.

"I can give you a hand with it," Knuckles says. "Where are you trying to take it?"

What floor, what room, etc.

"Upstairs. Leaving some on each landing. I'm doing internal repairs to facilitate use by Agrii if the negotiations go well."

He had pointedly chosen not to take part in that. He was so tired of them back home.

"Okay."

Knuckles lifts several beams above his head with ease and heads inside for the stairs.

Wow, that's... Reeve takes a moment to stare in shock before racing after him to guide the guy.

"You're quite strong proportional to your size. Very impressive. Thank you."

Knuckles has been known to run very fast holding the Master Emerald above his head.

"Thanks," he says awkwardly. "It comes in handy."

He gets to the second floor. "How many do you want left?"

"It really does. If only I could convince you to do building with me all the time."

Because he could always use more hands.

"I think it will depend on the floor from my evaluations. I'd think about five here should be a good start."

"I've got the time," Knuckles says. And it was something he'd actually enjoy. "Let's do it."

He leaves five and heads to the next level.

Alright, that sounded fun. Reeve followed after the echidna, leaving Mini to do the counting to figure out which rooms things were going to.

"That could be very helpful actually. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty. And seems like you might not mind."

"Yeah, I'd like something useful to do," Knuckles says. "And building is something I know about."

He stops at the next landing. "How many here?"

"That would be wonderful to get more people with. And I'm only handling the first six floors."

And since they've already passed the ground floor, that means only four more above them.

"I meant, how much wood to put here," Knuckles says, indicating the third landing.

Oh. Reeve sighs because he should have noticed. He thinks back to Mini and then when he has the number he quotes it out.

"Just a bit more I guess."

"Right." Knuckles leaves that amount, goes back for more wood, and then goes up to the other two floors in succession. "What needs work in here?"

In other words, what's the wood going to be used for, etc.

"Reinforcing walls and doors, and replacing two walls further up that are going to need support studs."

"Which job are you planning to tackle first?"

Knuckles would probably take care of the biggest one first, replacing the walls and such. Unless the reinforcements should be done first so those walls and doors will have extra support before the higher walls are removed.

"Starting up and working down," Reeve says with a shrug. Seems the most logical to him. "My legs and arms are strong today, so I'm going to start with that."

"Great. Let's get to it then." Knuckles is ready for replacing walls.

If that's excitement, he'll be glad for it.

"It's actually sort of satisfying in the end, to get the whole thing done. I hope I can show that."

"Oh yeah, it's always great to show off a new project." Knuckles had kind of liked that with his elaborate traps. Maybe he could understand Eggman in a way because of that.

"Do you have the tools here too or do we need to get them?" He looks around for them.

Reeve gestures over his shoulder at the backpack he was wearing.

"A lot of initial ones."

"Okay. So what walls are coming out first?" Knuckles asks.

[plate_builder]

"On the top floor we're going to, the second room to the left, and the third on the right. One needs the non-plumbing related wall shared with the bathroom redone due to water damage, and the other needs the wall that supports it from the next room."

They won't be hard to take out, but of course they need to be done carefully so the new braces can be put in properly to hold them up.

Knuckles memorizes those directions and nods. "Okay."

When all the wood is in place, he goes to the water-damaged wall to inspect it and see the best way to remove it.

Reeve is happy to see the focus of the Echidna and his willingness to learn. Guidance will always be something Reeve can give.

"First we find the support beam. I'll show you how to use the tools for that and then how to do it without a tool. Then we'll remove the parts of the wall around it just enough to get our new brace in. Ready for the real hard work?"

Knuckles nods, paying close attention to all Reeve is saying. "Let's do it," he agrees.

Reeve smiles and gets some gloves from his pack.

"Gladly. IT will be an honor to work with you."

Totally fine, LOL. I don't know either.
