[Open] Yet Another Underground Maze

In a way all of this is so much like Gladio's personal history that it's scary. An apocalypse caused by a disease that happens to at the same time darken the skies? Check. People having to withdraw to a few beacons of metaphorical light in the darkness, check. Those beacons failing and people pulling back further? Check. Hell, even throwing oneself into an open and attested underground artificial structure to get through it to win an end to the darkness? Yeah, it all checks out.

Perhaps that's why Gladio approached who he did when all of this started. Not one of the kids he was training, not one of the adults that had their own plans, not even someone he's got a lot of experience with.

No, the moment the news comes over the semi-functional network that a new path has been opened and they have options, Gladio goes looking for someone he had seen pass him by a few times in the mines. Someone that came in with people and would head back out. Someone who had proven quite quickly to have a take charge kind of personality.

He looks for the silver haired man.

"Hey," he greets as he approaches Sephiroth. "I have a proposition for you."

Well damn, that's a pretty glowing crystal. But not like the energy rod things.

"Let's pocket that for later. Someone might have a use for it."

Sephiroth nods and slips the crystal into his supplies after wrapping it carefully. He's not sure how fragile it is.

"Now, to disable the computer system." He looks at it. He would rather not be destructive about it if possible, just in case there's valuable information to be had, but they may not have another option.

"Computers were never my strong suit. That's Prompto. BUt there's always percussive maintenance."

YEs, Gladio was suggesting breaking shit. He didn't like the storms, thanks.

“Heh.” Sephiroth smirks. “I suppose that may be our only option.”

He tries a few things first, just in case, but soon determines that he doesn’t have enough computer knowledge to make it work. He steps back, frowning. He doesn’t like this, but they need to make things stop. He forms a fireball and prepares to throw it.

Gladio recollects his sword and smiles.

"I'm more than happy to break up evil computers. Have the first blow, sir."

Sephiroth smirks a bit and finally throws the fireball, watching it hit the computer.

“Let’s go.”

Just for the fun of it, Gladio uses his sword to smash a few consoles too. Because he can.

"Yep. Time to see if we can get back safely."

Sephiroth nods and runs for the doorway. If needed, he can teleport them to farther away in his line of sight.

Gladio follows after him. The timing is pretty good because he can definitely hear the sudden upswell of noise and...

"Oh, that's going to blow, isn't it?"

YOu better bet he's got the shield out and is bracing behind it. All the better to avoid shrapnel.

Sephiroth grabs him, teleports as far down the hall as possible, and hopes the shield will be enough protection if they still need some.

They do need some. There is still some fire and some flying shrapnel. But it's enough, between the teleport and the shield, to keep them mostly safe.

And Astrals, does Gladio ever laugh uproariously at the delight of the thing.

Sephiroth waits until it dies down and then slowly looks up. “We should be safe now.”

Hopefully.

“Let’s get this crystal back.”

Gladio nods but he's still lying there, laughing. That was more fun than it had any right to be in his opinion.

Sephiroth fails to find anything that funny about the situation. He stands there with folded arms, waiting a moment, and then says in complete deadpan, “I’m glad you find this so hilarious.”

"I find it life affirming," Gladio counters before working to his feet. "And sometimes you need that."

[3wingedangel]

"Life-affirming that we just destroyed something and are still alive?" He supposes he can see that.

[ziedrich_bearer]

"Indeed," Gladio says. Finally he lets the sword disappear to be replaced by the shield.

"Let's start back then."

Sephiroth nods and does so, but stays alert for any more problems. He’s not willing to let his guard down just yet.

Yeah, neither of them would. He keeps walking forward. Time to find the others.
