What do vegan zombies eat?

A: Early Invasion

In a way, Leo is almost... relieved. Okay, so that's a weird thing to feel when there are literally undead monsters walking around, but the thing is, zombies are a simple problem. He doesn't have to worry about zombies betraying him, or debating him about innocent until proven guilty, or any other moral quandaries. Zombies want brains. Leo doesn't want his brain to get eaten. This math is simple.

And while it's more than a little disconcerting now to be suddenly cut off from his powers, it doesn't slow down Leo that much. Well, maybe in the literal sense, now that he can no longer teleport, but for actual fighting, Leo has always depended more on his swords and his martial arts than his magic. So cutting zombies down isn't really an issue for him, especially when they're the slow, shambling kind.

It is, however, pretty gross. Leo cringes as he brushes some rotting flesh bits off his arm.

He's here because he heard someone calling for help, or because he saw someone fighting the good fight. Either way, he's here to help!

(And also look for Donnie, because of course they got separated again. But hey, kill two birds with one stone!)

"Need a little help?" he calls out, approaching. "These guys are a little too awake, huh? Never heard that phrase about sleeping when your dead."

B: Late Invasion (cw: tied up zombie brother)

Leo shouldn't be out here. He should be sheltering in the mines, like everyone else.

But here he is, moving with ninja speed and stealth toward one of the abandoned houses. He has a rope slung over his shoulder, and casts furtive glances around to see if he's being followed.

He's pretty good at catching when he is being followed, but with all these zombies around, it's possible to avoid his detection and see what he's up to.

Which is, admittedly, pretty suspicious. What is he doing?

It's partly that, but also that Leo just couldn't handle the idea of killing the Mikey zombie, or of anyone else killing him, either. He doesn't trust the people here much, and even if he acknowledges that this isn't really his brother, he still doesn't like the idea of what they might do to him.

Leo firmly shuts the door of the house before he follows.

"A few days," he answers tersely.

Sephiroth doesn't trust many of them either. By the time that mess with Stu finished, he honestly felt pretty much the same as Stu about the place and wanted to wash his hands of the whole thing. Even though he didn't.

"Does your brother know?" he asks. Not that he thinks Donnie is much more responsible than Leo, after the dangerous stunts he was pulling in the air.

Leo hesitates on that, before he says, "It's family business."

Which is enough of a non-answer to cycle back around to being an answer, but Leo doesn't want Sephiroth running off and telling Donnie, because there's no way he wouldn't say it in the worst way possible.

That certainly sounds like Donnie knows, but Sephiroth really couldn't say for sure. He's not particularly thrilled by the thought of talking to Donnie about it either. Whether or not Donnie knows, Sephiroth is sure he would not get a warm reception. That doesn't mean he won't try, but first he'll probably try to determine if that's really who he should talk to.

"How long do you plan on keeping him here?" he asks.

Part of him thinks it's actually not necessarily a bad idea to confine a zombie and observe it. They need knowledge in this situation. But he is highly doubtful that leaving it to a teenager is the best option.

Leo looks at him suspiciously.

"Why does it matter to you?" he asks.

"There's always the chance he could break free," Sephiroth says. "I can see you're trying, but your restraints may not last." He certainly heard the remark about the rope being chewed. "Perhaps someone else could help you make the house more secure, if you're determined to keep him."

Leo waves off that suggestion. "It's fine. He's no good with doors." In general, none of the zombies seem to be. A group of them can break through, but a single one trying to turn a doorknob isn't happening. "I don't want people to know about him. They'll just try to kill him."

"I'm sure your brother would help," he remarks, still not sure Donnie even knows. He could see Donnie having set up some kind of tech around the house, maybe more to keep people out than the zombie in. Since there was nothing like that, it makes him think all the more that Donnie might not know.

Leo doesn't answer that. Instead, he looks at Sephiroth suspiciously once again.

"Who even are you? You're giving me advice and dragging my brother into this like you know us."

"I don't know you," he says. "Back home I was ..." He does not want to say hero. "A protector. And I trained another as one." He sighs tiredly. "I am ... trying to be useful here the best way I know how---patrolling for trouble, trying to keep the residents safe...." Back home, after what had gone wrong, he had isolated himself for years and hadn't always involved himself in other's problems. But here, with so few people, he feels that would be foolish. They all need to work together to solve the problems of this planet and get home again.

Leo understands that desire; he's a protector back home, too. Not that his efforts have been very appreciated here.

But that still doesn't mean he's ready to let his guard down.

"...Lots of people here say that," says Leo. "They're protectors or superheroes or whatever. Fat lot of good it's done."

He doesn't just mean the recent attacks. It's a lot of things.

"Patrolling is cool and all, but word of advice, dropping out of the sky and scaring people won't make them trust you." He looks Sephiroth up and down. "Maybe get a less scary haircut and clothes that don't look like you're part of some emo screamo band."

"Heh. Sometimes it doesn't seem to do any good." He is a very cynical sort.

A smirk. "The hair and clothes stay. Your other advice will be taken into consideration. But what do you suggest? If I fly over them and don't land, that might scare them too." He feels landing is the better option, of the two.

[faceguy]

He is giving Sephiroth a distinctly unimpressed look, like he doesn't think highly of his intelligence. Teenagers.

"Walk on your feet like a normal person."

"That doesn't afford the best view," Sephiroth replies matter-of-factly. "I fly to see if there are any threats that wouldn't be visible from the ground."

[faceguy]

"You can still land somewhere that isn't right on top of them and then walk over like a normal person," says Leo, rolling his eyes. "Come on, you're like a million years old, do I have to figure this out for you?"

He smirks. "I suppose I could do that."

He can't deny he likes the dramatic approach. He's dropped down in front of Sora and Cloud more than once back home. But if that approach is wrong for here, he is willing to consider alternatives. Anything that might help him get more cooperation.

[faceguy]

Leo nods. "Then maybe you'll make some friends, and, I dunno... stop following me around."

[3wingedangel]

"I'm following you because you're the one who happens to be out late tonight," Sephiroth says. He seems to be in a better mood at this point; Leo is amusing him now.

[faceguy]

"I do my best work at night," he retorts. "It's when all the best mutant ninjas are out."

[3wingedangel]

"It would still be safer to be with someone until these current problems resolve," Sephiroth says.

[faceguy]

Leo shrugs. “Once I meet back up with Dee, I’ll stick with him.”

"I'm glad to hear that," Sephiroth says.

He's staying alert as they walk, hoping they'll get back before any more zombies come out at them.

So far, they've gotten pretty lucky. Leo's armed, though, in case they run into something.

"What about you? Who are you buddying with?"

[3wingedangel]

"There is no one," Sephiroth admits. "There are very few here I trust so far."

[faceguy]

"Yeah, well, join the club," says Leo flatly. "Half the people here are jerks and the other half are crazy... There's a few cool ones, though."
