[Eli appears, holding his officer's cap in his hands and looks distressed. Perched on his shoulder is Re-1, Altair's scout droid.]

For those who know Altair, he seems to have gone home.... I found Re-1 at the door by itself and I learned he hasn't been at the hospital or the power plant. With Re-1 still being here....does that mean he isn't truly gone? I would have thought if he went permanently home his scout droid would have went as well. Granted....I'm not sure how this really works. I just hope that means he might come back.

--If someone could watch out for the kitchen for me it would be appreciated. Otherwise, I may temporarily close it down. I want to check in on those at the hospital in case no one else is around who can.

Well, part of why I'm so comfortable around Thrawn and Altair is because I've come to live among their people. Thrawn had sent me to his people once he learned I was getting uncomfortable where the Empire was going and the only reason why I was staying was for him. He felt I could learn more from them as well.

It took a while getting used to their culture and ways. And they had a hard time adjusting to me as well. I think a lot of them were placing bets that I was Thrawn's partner for him to send me there. It doesn't sound like he makes a lot of friends easily even among his people. So this had been a commotion for them.

[Tommy considers all of that thoughtfully. And he smiles at Eli's story. And wow, he can feel some warmth in his body. Oh that's nice.]

So you left all of your people behind for him? That's intense, man. That's REALLY intense.

Yeah. And because Thrawn didn't give me proper clearance....he thought the Emperor would take care of it....I was listed as a traitor for leaving. I only found that out later when his people and my people had to work together briefly. It wasn't fun.

While I didn't care about myself, I worried about how it would take on my family at home and their trade buisness. I still don't know if that's actually cleared come to think of it....

But those are things that Thrawn messes up on because he's not good with politics. His brother is a politician and usually deals with that. I did give him hell for that and the way he greeted me when we had arrived here.

Well I did tolerate the racist behavior from the Imperial Navy for at least 15 years....so I can handle a year among the Chiss. The problem with the Chiss is they are very set by how they do things and don't handle change well. This was a huge disruption to the way they did things. Leave it to Thrawn to shake up things.

[Eli grinned a bit as he took another drink.]

[Eli couldn't help but let out a good laugh at the statement.]

Let me tell you how many times we were court-martialed and won every signal time. And all the times he annoyed the previous commanders.

[That's the most amazing thing. Tommy grins and raises his glass.]

[Eli poured him some water and handed it to Tommy before moving to sit back down again.]

Typically when you are court-martialed you're career in the military is basically done or you get sent to some shit hole of a position that no one wants and no way to redeem yourself. They were really trying to knock Thrawn and I down and only ended up looking like fools each time.

Wow that was so not a detailed example. Okay. Weirdest thing someone tried to courtmartial you for? Or get you whatevered over?

I'm aware. I just wanted to make sure you understood about the buisness of being court-martialed.

Our first incident was involving a set of pirates stealing tibanna. We had been captured in the process, but Thrawn had managed a way to get everyone out and capture the majority pirates at the same time. The only cost was we lost the tibanna and the leader of the pirates...The leader proved to be a nemesis for Thrawn through out most of our career.

They didn't like the fact that Thrawn took a lot of risks to ensure everyone's safety and to capture the pirates at the same time. They had wanted the tibanna and weren't concerned about how many lives would have been lost in the process. We were court-martialed for those risks.

You... were courtmartialed for saving fucking lives?

[Tommy is offended.]

You did the best thing, and they hated you for it? What the actual fuck?

Yeah....pretty much. They said we took too many unnecessary risks. I wasn't happy with that. This was the first real example of I saw of how corrupt the Empire really was. And also how desperate so many people wanted Thrawn's career to go down the tube.

[Eli downed the rest of his drink before going to eat a few more pieces of the vegetables he had chopped up to eat. He forgot how rough it had been in his early career.]

Was it just because they were, you know, racist?

[Because it could just be envy over success or something.]

Yeah...I think a lot of it was.

Even before I had feelings for Thrawn....I don't understand why I stayed so long when I knew how much they hated the both of us. I guess maybe I thought I could prove to them. It wasn't until Thrawn began GrandAdmiral, I was finally given a promotion....All those years they kept me at an Ensign, which really was not proper protocol.

It's a big world out there. People aren't always so nice and understanding.

I wasn't going to let them drag me down. I wanted to prove to them what I could do...what my people were capable of. We weren't just some stupid Wild Space hick.

People that aren't understanding can bite me. But it sounds like they aren't worthy of serving with a guy like you.

[He couldn't help but blush at the compliment. It was rare to receive one and he still struggled to view himself as important.]

So there was this super racist bunch of terrorist assholes that wanted to take over the world. Didn't work, clearly. But as a backup plan, one of them brought a backpack nuke to take us all out if the day was lost for evil.

We thought we were gonna die.

Wow....that's pretty intense. Thrawn and I've been through a lot but nothing to that extreme.
