Maybe it was a lot of effort put into but Donnie never does anything without reason. The recent free display of memories thanks to the last storm had gotten him thinking. What's the point of it all if they just keep getting railroaded by bad experiences and memories here? No one's stopping them from enjoying themselves in an otherwise dilapidated city, and if they keep on focusing on the negative and being stuck for an indeterminate amount of time then that's just more fuel the Atroma or whoever's out there has to use against them.

So Donnie's got the designated space all set. He's made as much use of convenient rubble as he could find within the area for some makeshift seating. He's found some kind of old cushions and blankets to pad them. Since Steve's offered to handle prepping the popcorn, Donnie's happy to leave that business to him and Leo.

The movie selections for the night are definitely things appreciated by a certain audience and might in some universe be considered cult classics, and once it gets dark enough for optimal projection clarity, it's show time!

Teriyaki Shakedown is a martial arts action movie starring the great (as so proclaimed by Leo and Donnie) Lou Jitsu, who's trademark seems to be a pompadour and a flare-legged spandex onesie.

"Where's our free grub, noodle man?"

"Okay- How ‘bout some . . . hot soup? Too spicy for you? Hahaha- Everyone’s a critic."

It's very cheesy and definitely reminiscent of what you'd expect of martial arts movies made in the seventies and eighties.

Jupiter Jim's Last Trip to the Moon turns out not to really be his last trip considering it's the second time it's apparently happened, but what's continuity? It's a sci-fi flick, dated effects and melodramatic, and perhaps one might wonder how anyone can watch more than sixty movies of this?

"Luke Skywalker was a particular favorite," Radley says. "Do you have Star Wars in your world?"

[faceguy]

“Uh no, I don’t think so…”

If they do, he has not watched it.

“So what did Luke Skywalker do?”

[crystalmaster]

"He becomes a guardian of the peace to defend his galaxy from an evil empire and eventually helps his evil father turn good again," Radley says.

[faceguy]

“Oh, that’s pretty cool. But does he have awesome fighting moves? Or cool gadgets?”

These are the important questions.

[crystalmaster]

Radley looks amused. "Oh, definitely. He fights with a laser sword and can do things like jump high distances and lift heavy objects with the power of his mind."

[faceguy]

"A laser sword and psychic powers? Okay, this guy sounds rad."

Leo has been sold.

"Does he deliver cool one-liners too?" That's the only thing that could make it better for Leo.

[crystalmaster]

"He is."

And Radley is further amused. "Hmm. I think his sister and his friend are better at the one-liners," he says.

[faceguy]

Ah, too bad. He almost made it to the top of Leo’s list.

“Well, we can’t all be perfect.” Is that how the saying goes?

[crystalmaster]

Radley chuckles. "No, I suppose not."

He glances back to what's happening on the screen. "How many of these films are there?"

[faceguy]

“Oh, Jupiter Jim has over a hundred at least. But a lot of them were TV specials so they aren’t as long.” Or high budget.

“Lou Jitsu was in… hm… He probably stared in twenty something?” Leo sticks his tongue out as he counts in his head.

[crystalmaster]

"Wow. Really?" That's way more than Radley thought. He had assumed around ten to twenty for each.

"That's pretty cool. Do you guys have them all?" Judging from how they loved these installments, he wouldn't be surprised.

[faceguy]

“Almost! Back home we do, anyway. I’m not sure how many Donnie has saved to his phone.”

They’d have to ask him, but he’s elsewhere.

“There’s some Lou Jitsu films that are super rare and hard to find, but we’ve been working on tracking them down. We have a pretty complete collection of LJ media at this point.”

[crystalmaster]

"That's great."

He smiles. "My friend Scotch likes to track down rare films and merch for things he loves. It's quite an adventure." He had been pulled into quite a bit of it.

[faceguy]

“Oh yeah? Then you get it. It’s the thrill of the hunt!” He’s happy about Radley getting it. “We go to sci-fi conventions and stuff just to track down more merch. Ever been? It’s fun!”

[crystalmaster]

"I sure have," Radley says. "Scotch always cosplays for those. He's really good at it too."

[faceguy]

“Oh yeah? Us too!”

Though they let their natural bodies do a lot of the cosplay for them.

“Man, too bad we’re stuck here, or we could all have a good time together.”

[crystalmaster]

"Well, maybe it will end up that we're from the same version of Earth and we can meet up back home," Radley smiles. "But in the meantime, we can do fun things like these movie nights."

[faceguy]

"Hah, yeah, true. Be sure to come next time!"

Because they will definitely do it again.

[crystalmaster]

"Oh, I definitely will," Radley smiles. It's like a piece of home come back.
