The beach had been transformed, perhaps not to the level Jan was used to back home, but still fairly impressive. A number of newly built beach pagodas littered the purple sands, sheer white draperies shifting with the breeze. There were tables and seating provided in each, for more intimate conversation, a larger buffet style table laid out for people to browse from. In addition, there was a table for special themed cocktails (and mocktails) for the guests. Jan had been very proud of finding local alternatives, but some of them may come with some…unintended side effects. Jan had found a collection of opalescent conch like shells, and scattered them about liberally to serve as decorations. She and Tony had been working in secret for ages to pull this together for Steve, and the pair were dressed in white, a request she’d made of all the guests as well, but no one would be turned away if they couldn’t manage. A dancefloor had been built, and Eddie had been offered something that must’ve been pretty damn valuable, because the metalhead had been talked into playing Disco for the party. When the time came for cake the hosts got a little bashful. Jan had always hired out for this, but she had been sure it couldn't be all that hard to make a cake. It turned out she was wrong. But it was the best they had, and so it was presented rather sheepishly to the birthday boy and to be shared amongst the guests if any were brave enough to try it. It doesn't taste great, but at least there are no mystery side effects to go with it. As the sun set, a host of glowing necklaces, wands and bracelets were passed out, and once it was truly dark the light show began. Rather than the more traditional fireworks, they had a series of drones lighting up the sky in a dazzling display. However, something unexpected comes from this. As though awoken from the light, the shells Jan had so proudly decorated with were not as abandoned as she’d thought. Little legs slid free, and the creatures began to head for the nearest light source, whether that be the drones in the sky or any of the heroes with their glowing attire. And to make matters worse, there is a large SOMETHING in the water, shrieking with a sound that shakes the beach. Of course before he lost his vision! She's not that thoughtless and mean. Usually.

"Okay. Um..."

But she's scared of Tae.

"Maybe that magic boy is around?"

"The magic boy? Billy? Uh, sure," he says, still trying to look around even though he's sure that he can't see.

"Um."

Yes, he's not feeling like he's getting used to this.

"Yeah, I don't know what he looks like," Robin sighs. "I can still look for him for you?"

"Oh," Steve says. "Well he's got dark hair and - have you met Tommy? They're twins, they've got the same facial features."

[work_wife]

"Uh, I saw him once, but didn't meet him."

That guy that she saw Hargrove with in that storm memory. His boyfriend. But yeah, she thinks she can figure that out.

"Alright, just... stay still, okay? Let me go look for him."

"Okay," he says, trying to calm down. Robin doesn't need to see him feel all out of sorts. "I'm not going anywhere."

"Right. That's me. I'll try and warn you when I get bback, okay?"

And then she is running off in hopes of finding this Billy guy.

Steve nods, and then just waits there, patiently for Robin to return.

Takes her a few minutes to come back and he can't see how uncomfortable she is. How unhappy.

"Uh... So I found him. I think he's blind like you right now."

[pursuitofcappiness]

"What?" Steve asks, concerned. If Billy's also blind, that's terrible news, because he'd assume he'd have any knowledge of it.

On the bright side though, a little time has elapsed, and possibly due to the serum, the effects are wearing off slowly. He can start to make out shapes again, dim as they are.

"Is there anything bright you can hold up?" he asks.

"Bright? Uh..."

Shit what's an option there.

"Maybe one of the glowing things they're giving out?"

"Sure, anything, I just want to see if I can see it," he answers. "Not strongly, just - I think the light and shadows are coming back."

[work_wife]

Huh, htat's interesting. It's just... randomly happening?

"That's a lot to hear, man. Like, it's weird, right? Temporary blindness without a concussion or something?"

[pursuitofcappiness]

"I've had enough concussions in my life to know if I was having one right now," he answers. "But yes. If it's environmental, I've gotta look into it."

[work_wife]

Robin stares, jaw dropped open. What the fuck was it with Steves and concussions.

"You should change your name. It's cursed."

[pursuitofcappiness]

"What, Steve? Or Rogers? I've had it for about a hundred years, I don't even think I could change it." He shrugs nonchalantly.

[work_wife]

"Steve. Our Steve is prone to concussions too," Robin says with a sigh. "And come on, there's paperwork. You could totally change it."

IT's really just up to him.
