It's All the Same, Only the Names Will Change
WHO: Cayde-6 and you
WHERE: Temba and its outskirts
WHAT: Just an Exo doin' his thing
WHEN: Nnnow. -ish.
WARNINGS: N/A
NOTES: Will match tagging format preference.
I. The Deep End (OTA)
He wouldn't call it routine, but by now he knew to appreciate what freedom they had in a scenery change and a mission. It's something Cayde had come to appreciate long before even being brought to this strange little prison of a planet. And it's because of that that he knows there's something bittersweet about coming back to what's become familiar territory, every time.
There's things you grow fond of, and maybe it's just him, but he's been used to ruins and wilderness just champing at the bit to claim it whenever someone so much as blinks. He's glad his bar's in one piece, something he's made with his hands, thankful the glass has held and nothing's sprung a leak. Just a bit of dust but that's an easy fix, although the most he gets around to is the main counter and the stools and his domain behind it. Maybe he can rope someone into helping out with the rest. That Eddie kid probably, or maybe Richie.
Cayde's poking at the fish tank opposite the huge wall that looked out into its own tank of water, counting whatever critters still remained within. He doesn't look up even when he hears the sound of someone entering.
"Hey, you any good at catching fish?"
II. The Great Beyond (Para Antonio)
If it was a game of actual tactical advantage then between the Exos, Felwinter had him beat. The security tower had been built with the intention of a clear view of the city's entirety. Now, if Cayde were paranoid and wanted to be able to see as much of anything at any given time, he would've staked a claim to the place long before the Warlock had arrived. But it just wasn't his style.
The clock tower had definitely seen better days, and while it certainly didn't look like any clock tower he was familiar with, it still had the important bits to suggest what it had been, even if the inner workings had long corroded beyond any hope for restoration. That was fine with the Hunter. It'd be really annoying otherwise, if the place were ticking and cranking all the day long, and who knew what sort of chiming it ever did. Those parts must have broken off or never existed to begin with, so far as he'd been able to tell.
As for views, it afforded him a decent enough one. He could see enough, especially when he was up on the top where the broken remains were barely holding anything together. Currently he soaked in the imagery as though to refresh his memory from the last time he'd seen it, coated in snow. The lack of snow made it much easier to see things too, such as familiar people doing curious things somewhere below.
III. Exploratory
The woods just beyond Temba aren't unfamiliar territory. They are however by Cayde's standards, pretty unspectacular. It had been disappointing a venture in more than a few directions, and only because for several days straight, the Hunter had only come across more and more forest.
That doesn't mean they aren't full of surprises, and after having more than a few brushes with antagonistic wildlife in the past, the Exo feels better doing a bit of patrolling along the perimeter of the city and just beyond. It's something to do. And if it gives him an excuse to shoot something, who's he to complain?
IV. Wildcarde

"That. Is probably a good idea," Cayde agrees. He steps away fr the tank, wandering back towards the bar counter. "Let's see what I have lying around."
no subject
Without the eel to watch, though, Leo wanders back to the bar with Cayde, looking around as he goes.
“Nice place you got here.”
no subject
The latter is indeed addressing a brown pile of feathers at the end of the counter that fluffs itself up before becoming more chicken-shaped as Colonel lifts her head with a cluck. Cayde gives her a gentle tickle with a finger before he sweeps past the bar.
"Hey what's the freezer life on leftover pizza?" he calls from the backroom as he's heard rummaging about. "...I really need to go through this more often."
no subject
Leo is now interested in this living animal that is just chilling on the bar. He’s never actually seen a chicken in real life before. Curiously, he holds out a finger toward her.
“Uhh, a couple months, I think?” he says over his shoulder. “Pizza never makes it to the freezer in our house, so I don’t know.”
no subject
"Months? Ooh. Yeah, okay so...I'm pretty sure this has been here for at least a year." There's the solid thunk of something being dropped into a bin. "Okay, guess I have not restocked anything otherwise sooo that's probably something for the to-do list."
no subject
He glances over sadly at the sound of the pizza going in the trash.
"Aw man... can't believe you guys lets pizza get wasted."
no subject
Colonel pecks at Leo's finger a few times before actually trying to catch it in her beak, though the attempt doesn't last for long given it seems to be attached to the even bigger green thing. Her feathers ruffle just slightly at that, her clucks sounding curt, almost in disapproval.
no subject
He walks over next to where Cayde is searching the freezer, looking in curiously.
“Can’t be that hard to come up with a reason for a party, right?”
no subject
What else was he- oh yes. Cayde opens up a cupboard and pulls out a box, shaking it around a bit before he takes out a sliver of jerky. "Yep. Definitely need to restock. But I guess in the meantime this'll do."
no subject
He sprinkles it across the countertop in front of her, watching curiously to see if she'll eat it. He's pretty much ignoring the whole restocking situation. In his defense, he's never gotten to take care of a pet before (well, besides Piebald), so he's pretty entertained by this.
no subject
Cayde doesn't mind. Kids'll be kids, and everyone seems to love the chicken. He grins as he steps out from the back, glancing at the two before going over to the tank to drop in jerky bits as he shreds it with a knife into slimmer, smaller pieces.
"She's the best battle chicken. Helped me take out several Cabal fighters during a mission to take back our city."
no subject
"Battle chicken, seriously?" Then he laughs. "Oh, you're just messing with me, right?"
Who takes a chicken into battle against "Cabal fighters"?
no subject
"She'd draw them over, these hulking armored space rhinos! -doesn't even ruffle a feather, and then when she had their attention, I'd drop down and take them out. We're a great team!"
no subject
He’s still not entirely sure Cayde isn’t messing with him, but this sounds more plausible than what he was imagining.
Cautiously he reaches out toward the chicken again. Can he pet her…?
no subject
for a change. Hm."The slickest! Didn't even have to use my gun- would've been noisy anyway. But that's when knives come in handy," Cayde grins. "You ever need a good knife or two, you let me know, kid, I've been stocking up."
Colonel continues to peck at the last few morsels, pausing only to glance at the green hand that wasn't a bunch of worms before resuming. She's no stranger to petting at least, and the green child did feed her.
no subject
Leo tosses a curious look over his shoulder at the offer. “You have a stockpile of knives?”
Cayde is quickly winning the race for coolest person here.
no subject
Cayde laughs. "Sure do! Well...maybe not a pile but any opportunity that presents itself, I get what I can." He strolls back over behind the counter, rummaging around before he pulls out a jar with a myriad of knfe handles sticking out of it.
"Here's some of 'em. I keep the nicer ones I come across in a box but these are more general use."
no subject
He takes one out, examining it from side to side before giving it a little flip through the air, catching it by the handle as it comes down.
"Heh, nice! Hey, want to see a cool trick? I'm getting good at it."
no subject
He watches as Leo picks a knife out to test. Maybe not exactly how the Exo would go about it but he can't deny he wouldn't give it a good toss-test. His optics brighten then.
"Ooh! Yes- I love a good trick."
no subject
He holds the knife tight in his hand, then channels his energy into it. It's getting easier and easier to do this, though he's still never quite been able to manifest a full katana like he has back home.
Still, the new wakizashi he has in his hand now is pretty good.
He holds it out for Cayde to see. "Check it out! Upgrade."
no subject
Well! "Would you look at that!" he exclaims after mimicking a low whistle. "Now that is a nifty trick!" He holds a hand out to take the blade, optics widening in genuine amazement.
"And it just stays that way? This is way better than the knife."
no subject
"Since my old sword got broken, I've been making my new weapons like this. Pretty cool, right?" He grins, even as he adds a caveat: "I can only do swords, though."
Cayde would have to go to Donnie for anything flashier.
no subject
"That sure makes things less expensive." With a chuckle, Cayde turns the thing to offer it back, hilt-first. "Not bad, not bad. Just think of all the security checks you could get past! Too bad you can't do guns too."
no subject
A big battle-axe would be sweet! Ooh, or maybe a cannon! Sure, projectiles are more Donnie's thing, but there's nothing saying Leo can try them out, too.
no subject
He taps at the jar. "You good or you need any more?"
