There were plenty of ways that Tony enjoyed spending his money, especially if the experience involved a strict stylist and a private corner to change the cadence of her sighs of disappointment. None of that was likely to happen at a zoo, and he trailed along after Jan reluctantly, making a show of heaving up the bags that he already carried for her like he was too overburdened to start petting anything. Not that it made much of an impression. Jan was thrilled, so Tony followed, and he did have to try to hide his wry smile at her excitement.
"If you wanted a ride, we could be buying you a car. Or a boyfriend," he suggested. "Is that what this is? You're looking for a gentle, single dad type now? I'll keep an eye out."
