Don't Eat Yellow Snow
WHO: Donnie and yooou
WHERE: Not-Hoth
WHAT: Baby it's cold outside
WHEN: During Nothmas
WARNINGS: N/A
NOTES: Will match tag format/preferences
I. Observation
While Donnie has his qualms about the sturdiness of the structures they've been provided with as shelter for their winter exile, there doesn't look to be much by way of options. By default he chooses the one with the most purple decorating the outside (shh! No one saw him licking the building), perhaps low-key pleased that there's purple on the inside as well, even if it isn't completely to his aesthetics, but at least the color's not bad. He takes one look at the clothes in the dressers and figures it's probably some previous inhabitant's, thinking no more on that matter.
It's still strange to finally be in the same breathing space as the Agrii. Donnie wanders the weird village in his snow gear to observe their alien abductors. Take some selfies in front of the fabulous tree. Surreptitiously throw a snowball at a hapless Agrii or two and see if he can instigate snowball fights between them. For science.
II. Gift Gremlin
The barn is a curiosity, more so the big questionable robots that seem to be standing guard. Donnie watches from...the roof because that's what ninja do, right? as Agrii drop off gifts. Huh?
Presents are something he hadn't really expected. An Agrii gift exchange? Someone coax this feral boy from the roof so he can get his presents.
III. Second Childhood
a. One day Donnie's communicator is activated, but something's off about the transmission. Since when does Donnie wear glasses? They're quite huge, square-framed, and yes, that is tape over the bridge keeping it in place and string tied around the temples. He peers very closely at the screen as he plays around with it for a bit, having to stop to find his hands now and then because he's all but swimming in a big purple hoodie too many times his size. Eventually he gets tired of this game so he puts the communicator down to go investigate the drawers. Maybe there's him-sized clothes that's put away!
It takes some doing but he finally tugs one open, and perhaps that's when one can really get a sense of just how small the turtle tot is, maybe about two feet high. He starts pulling out sweaters and jackets, more to his size, frowning thoughtfully. Red? Headshake. Blue? No. Orange, that's Mikey's. He makes sure to fold each one up as nicely as he can while he sets them on the floor before looking in the drawer, but he eventually reaches the bottom and finds none for him. Oh.
This is what happens when your dad color codes you.
b. A little lost child in the snow! At least he's bundled up, and by now he doesn't care too much that the jacket he found isn't his color because it's warm and better than nothing. But winter clothes makes it hard to move, the snow, harder still, especially when it comes up past your knees.
He has no idea where he's going and he can't find the cabin he found himself in. It's a bit scary since everything outside is so big and new, not at all familiar like the sewers, not that he's gone very far in them without any of his brothers or his dad. The thought makes him sniffle as he hugs his action figure close. Donnie's not sure where it came from either but he knows Jupiter Jim anywhere! The space hero's poofy plastic afro is fitted in a fishbowl helmet, and he even has karate-chop action! Maybe it's one of his brothers, but right now, it's his emotional support.

Gremlin Really?
OF course he's on the roof. Of course he saw someone and immediately thought 'let's get up to the roof and check on them. Seems right, yeah?
"Well, not yet, but it's likely anyway."
He kicks some snow from the roof and sits down on the edge.
no subject
"Wait- what?" he says instead as he catches on what Tommy says. "Were we supposed to bring gifts for everyone too? Did I miss a memo?"
no subject
"No," Tommy says, kicking his feet in the air. "This is part of New Tick. Where the Agrii give us stuff. And can you imagine getting gifts for all of the Agrii? There are hundreds of them."
Which is a really small number, he knows.
no subject
"So this is just a thing they do?"
no subject
He hadn't wanted to come back. Ever.
"It bothered me last time. It's interesting now, with them here. At least they aren't doing get along sweaters."
no subject
"-wait, get-along sweaters? Like, seriously?"
no subject
Very new. It makes him think. A lot.
"Yeah. Get along sweaters. It's what I called them. See the four arm thing? They just decided to send us some sweaters like theirs. Four arm holes. And a strange mix of two names on it."
no subject
"That. Sounds terrible."
no subject
Yeah, it was terrible. Tommy grins.
"I still have mine. For fun."
no subject
He shakes his head. "I think it was also something of a safety concern. You know, even if we get their planet to a point they can inhabit, if they don't know how to function in a living, breathing world where they'll have to share space with other creatures, I don't know how well the Agrii will manage."
no subject
But the other point Donnie raises earns a nod from Tommy. That's so very, very true.
"We're supposed to teach them."
no subject
no subject
"Dude, they'd die. I promise you they would die. And I hate camping. So yeah, I'm out too."
no subject
no subject
And he doesn't know that he'd ever trust them with that.
"It was easier with the Graq that we met, you know? We could genuinely take them home. Where they had so many of them and could already survive."
no subject
"But I didn't sign up to babysit an alien race. They need to get started on learning how to function in a society and among creatures other than themselves, like, last year."
no subject
"Look at the ships. The new ones."
Those weren't like the old ones, and Tommy hadn't heard from Keith or Soldier (via Billy) that they were old Drift Fleet Ships too.
"Those are clearly signs of progress. It's something."
no subject
"I mean, I guess. Building new ships is cool and all but it's still a controlled environment."
no subject
Which Tommy never expected to have happen. He literally saved so many lives and still nothing.
no subject
"I don't think they're adverse to talking with us. For some reason people just either forgot or didn't think or know they were accessible to speak to. ...of course then there's the headache of trying to figure out what they're saying."
no subject
AS for the language thing, he chuckles.
"Yeah, that's always been an issue. Maybe talk to Jon for help. From what I understand, he understands all languages. Always."
no subject
Donnie strokes his chin. "I don't know how much that'd help when they're just piecing words that we know into more complex ones. But then again I was texting them so that probably complicated things, reading one thing and trying to work out the actual meaning. Hearing them is easier to translate without getting confused with seeing other words, you know?"
no subject
"They're definitely easier to understand when you hear them out loud," Tommy agrees. "Just be careful. They LOVE hugs. But if you need help, maybe I can ask them for you, you know, if they're being evasive. A lot of them personally owe me their lives, so maybe i can cash in on that? For something other than a Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtle birthday party."
no subject
"I don't see why they should be evasive about us wanting to get them to help us so we can better help them. I mean, that's kind of the whole reason they brought us here, right? They want their home world back, they get us to fix it, then we can go home." Or...whatever. Whenever. He mentally sweeps the latter under a carpet, not thinking about that now but it's inevitable that he will. Nothing's ever an easy fix anymore. Already he has to work to pry himself away from considering it.
"-I'm sorry, what? You had a party for us?"
no subject
"Don't know fully that they know how to help us help them," he admits with a shrug.
Though the take there was wrong and Tommy laughs.
"No. I had a party themed on you. We've got this cartoon back home that is similar to you guys but not quite. It's why I recognized you. Raph seemed to find it vaguely amusing."
