So: data points. Has anyone messed around with them? I mean, if you switch too many times does your head explode? Is there a limit on how fast you can switch between different ones?
Besides that, how long does winter last here? Is this one of those 'don't let the ground freeze if you want to plant things in early spring' places? I mean yeah, I had a lot of stuffed beamed into my brain, but thought I'd check if anyone had been here long enough to have first-hand experience.
Also, does anyone have any experience with magic, knowing the future, tarot cards, stuff like that? Just curious. Or well, I have a question, I guess.
[She tries really hard to sound casual about that last part.]

I myself have been using the ‘Communications’ one, it has made these devices easier for me to understand. I have had it since I arrived, and as of yet I have suffered no ill effects. Though I am the first to admit I have made no changes between them.
Winter lasts roughly three months, and I expect the snow should begin soon. I cannot speak to the status of the ground, it is not my area of expertise. But we will still have the Greenhouse for some things. Perhaps one of those with the Agriculture datapoint can speak to this question.
And I have not heard tell of any with a gift of foretelling here. Of course, it might be a thing where one might not speak of it often. I do not know how such magic might be seen in worlds beyond my own. Magic in general, at least as it manifests in my world, I can speak to, though.

If it would be permissible, might I ask about the interest in magic?
no subject
Like I said, there's a question I want to ask.

It is my belief that there are those who have switched in the past. Hopefully this can be confirmed. What I can say with certainty is that to touch one you already have removes it. This I tested when I first made use. I believe no harm was done, but I have not looked into it in a more extensive matter.
Meanwhile I do admit I am interested in this method of foretelling you are implying here. In our world those who can see the future may scry it, and may choose to do so, but they are not able to ask specific questions. That is the form foresight takes in yours? I should wonder if the answers received are clear.
no subject
Scrying, in my world, is sort of dangerous. Like mirrors. Readings are safer. Normally, what my mom tells most people is that they are 'true but not specific'.
But, I'm not a psychic, or else I could probably ask for myself.
no subject
Plus the mirrors thing. They are so uncommon in her world, the Circle barely had many that weren’t just the ones used for scrying.]
True but not specific sounds very much like the results our scryers might get. They could sense, for instance, a pending earthquake, but rarely with enough specificity to be of as much help as might be desired. Though I would not be shocked if there were those at Lightsbridge who might attempt such readings as you suggest.
The magics I know regarding the telling of events are based in the past or present, and not the future. So I apologize for not having more to offer there.

You're going to have to tighten up the brief on that very beguiling question, too. Magic, the future, tarot cards, those are all very different areas. I can deal in the future, but I won't be pulling any rabbits out of anywhere. I might be able to tell you how your planets align, if you're into a more casual first date.
no subject
A specific person's future. Back home, when someone knew my future, it was always the same. I want to find out if it's the same here. If anything's changed.
I've got a boyfriend and that's enough trouble already. So I'm not into dates. And I'm the only in my family that doesn't specifically have psychic powers, so trust me I'm very aware of how my planets align. Though I'm no good with rabbits, either.
[She laughs a little, a smile to her voice.]
no subject
The future is always changing. What would be the point, if it didn't?
no subject
He is here, and we've had some fun times, actually. It's not like there's a thriving nightlife, and he's been skipping out on taking me places-- unless you have suggestions. Of course, you imply that to him and he'll probably try and come up with something bigger than freezing a lake.
[It's exasperated and fond all at once.]
Back home he used to throw these parties. Fast cars, loud music, fireworks, explosions. But Temba's different, and no one really seems interested in that stuff around here, or have the supplies. But he still tries to make things special, and that's enough to make me happy.
So, no. No dates unless we're both invited.
[She pauses slightly, but then adds:]
Back home, everyone who saw my future sees the exact same thing. Since I was a kid. So I want to believe things are different, but if I'm wrong-- someone gets hurt.
no subject
They wouldn't be into the explosions, though. Maybe you go get your hands dirty with the mushrooms, and your boyfriend and I will find out who can go faster.
You're going to have to wind the tape back a bit on that immutable prophecy thing. You want a different future, and the one everyone tells you that you're stuck with is going to be a tragedy? I've never been keen on being told what to do myself, that sounds like a pretty easy choice to me.
no subject
Oh, I think he'd like that a lot. And I'm more than content to go play with the mushrooms. He hasn't had anyone to race since we got here. It might be good for him.
[She sighs, and tries to think of how to phrase it.]
If I kiss my true love, they die.
[There's a pause, and what sounds suspiciously like Blue angrily kicking a rock into the water.]
Which is-- ridiculous, right? What does that even mean? Is he my true love because he was my first, or is there someone forty years in my future that I'm supposed to murder? But I can't just-- if I'm wrong I kill him.
So, I want things to be different. I thought-- I don't know. I thought that if someone here did readings, and they came up with a different story, maybe it'd mean something.
no subject
You're right, the whole magic thing is ridiculous, there is no real meaning there, we've got to break it down. The only part of that I'm willing to accept as binary is 'die', the rest of it can mean anything, you've got to know how you're defining 'kiss' and 'true' and 'love', and if giving CPR to your sister counts. Can't we just deal with whatever deadly bacteria is in your mouth? Are you just part of some weird abstinence cult?
[Audio]
Also don’t worry about the ground. It’ll be fine. Has been every year. Though really do your best not to play important shit outside of the greenhouse. I can personally tell you how to shit the Jedi Temple went with all their plantings after they didn’t have an Ag expertise person checking on the stuff regularly. Those plants were mean after the storms mutated them.
Basically the soil in the greenhouses is safer for plants, unless you’ve apparently got an in with the little mushroom people who will help things stay normal apparently?
[Audio]
Hey, sweetheart.
[His voice was the sort of warm and fond and in love that was reserved solely for Blue.]
Can't help with the data points, 'cause I've just been sticking with the one- and I figure you wouldn't want me to risk exploding, anyway.
[Cause he would, he absolutely would- not explode, but test it.]
But-
[How did he word this-]
Are you asking about the future because of me?
no subject
[It was warm and fond-- it had started off as a tease, because he'd said it to her once upon a not very long time ago. But somehow calling Kavinsky her babydoll felt pleasant. Maybe because she knew that she could, that they were dating, and she meant it in a way that was tender rather than flippant.]
I most certainly do not want you exploding. And-- yeah. I am. I wanted... I don't know. I thought if there was someone that could do readings, I could see if it was still the same. Because I want to kiss you. I hate that I can't, but I don't want to risk it when there's a chance I could-- you know.
[She sighs, seeming to deflate a little from voicing her agitation outloud.]
You're important to me. I don't think this place is part of the future I was supposed to have. But I'm-- too scared to risk it.
no subject
I'll just stick with exploding other things.
[Which he was quite good at, if he did say so himself.]
I want to kiss you, too. Dream about it, sometimes. But, you know, I don't blame you for anything. Like, being scared and not wanting to risk it. If it was me, I'd feel the same way. I could never do something that would hurt you.
[Never mind that he had before. It was...different. And he was trying to be better now, determined.]
Hey, speaking of- d'you think it's still warm enough to do shit outside sometime?
no subject
[He might not be able to see her smile, but he can probably hear the warmth in her voice. Because she thought that he was good at it too, when she was being honest. She had liked his parties, back when she went to them.]
You dream about me a lot? [It was fond more than teasing.]
And I know. You've been- nothing but kind and patient, and it means so much to me. But I still want it. I want you. And it feels almost reflexive; like of course I should kiss you. And then I can't. So I wanted to try, even if odds are that they'd have told me the same thing anyway.
[But he changes the subject, and she's relieved for it.]
Yeah, probably. Just might want to bring a heated blanket or a bonfire. But I'm sure we could find ways to stay warm, if you wanted to make a plan for something.
[There's absolutely something suggestive to her tone, a bit more overt than she usually is, but she's in a bit of a mood after everything, and she wants to just burrow herself into his arms and his warmth and his heart.]
no subject
[What was a good explosion without anybody around to watch it, anyway?]
Sometimes, yeah. I guess I can't stop thinking about you even when I'm asleep.
[He had referred to her once as the love of his life, and he'd meant it with his whole heart. He thought, if it was possible, that he loved her more with every passing day.]
Mmm. Okay. I think all of the above sounds like a good idea. A heated blanket and a bonfire. It'd really set the mood.
[And, you know, encourage further romance.]
