Oct 10th - ~14th

Someone probably should have told Steve Rogers to stay put, but it's Steve Rogers, so he's doing no such thing. Unfortunately for everyone around him, he's lost his serum, which means that he's currently swimming in his shirt and had to cut a new hole in his belt just to hold his pants up, because he doesn't have time or resources to go to Alien Target to get a new set of clothes.

If you're lucky, then you'll meet him at the hospital, where he'll be tending whatever wounds you have, extremely carefully.

And if you're unlucky, then he's out on town trying to gather supplies or find food to bring back, or even just to check in on other people. It seems that no one remembered to remind Steve that he's no longer resistant to whatever's in the air, so he doesn't travel long distances. And whether he ducks inside wherever you are just to breathe a little easier, or whether he's outside looking like whatever he's carrying is bigger than he is, well. He's struggling a little.

And if you're really, really unlucky, Steve might be in the middle of engaging with one of the creatures. What he lacks in combat ability, he has in spades in actual learned skill, so even though he's having a real hard time with it because there's no power in his kicks and he'd absolutely get bodied by a large rodent, he's still out here trying. He's just in need of an assist.

Oct 15th, by Alien Target Gate

Somehow, luckily, Steve's managed to stay alive, and he's run into a couple uh, familiar-adjacent faces. After he parts ways with them, he heads on over to the department store in order to find the gate so that he can help shut it down. With his acrobatic skill, resistance to poison, and newly-acquired energy shield, he's much-better equipped than he had been to run around town.

He makes it late enough to see people gathering around it, though the creatures keep coming out so it's not like it's hard to miss. "Behind you!" he shouts as he tosses his shield at one of the demo dogs, knocking it to the side and catching his giant laser frisbee.

If Sonic does try to get back up, Steve will still try to force him to sit back down regardless. "Well I don't know how fast you heal, kid, but yeah, I'd say it's probably a matter of weeks."

He looks on in empathy. "And trust me, I get it. It's no fun. But neither will it be if you move too much on it now." He shakes his head. "It'll just cause you a lot of problems in the future."

"And trust me. You don't want that."

He does sit up, but he doesn't seem like he's trying to hop to the floor or anything. For a moment it looks like maybe he's going to start arguing, but the attitude deflates pretty quickly and instead he just crosses his arms and huffs.

"No, I don't, but... I don't know, man. I just feel useless, I'm used to being on the front lines, I'm used to being the whole front line."

"Hey," he says, laying a hand reassuringly on Sonic's shoulder. "Believe it or not, so am I."

But instead he's in here, because he's not having a good week, physically. "But we're no use to anybody if we go out there while we're hurt."

"I know that," he says, his weird little ears perking up a bit as he glances from whatever random spot he'd been staring at to Steve, "I can't help anyone when I can't even walk, and while I'm de-powered to boot. Just because I understand it doesn't mean I have to like it."

"You can hate it all you want, Sonic, but it's happening to all of us." He shakes his head. "You hungry? I can get you something to eat. Maybe it'll help with the healing."

Sonic sighs, glaring at his leg for a moment before settling back in the bed a little.

"Pretty hungry, yeah. I know I'm complaining a lot, but I really do appreciate you lookin' out for me."

"Wouldn't be anywhere else. Stay here. I'll get you something."

And then, he asks: "You got any dietary restrictions? Allergies?"

"Nah, not that I know of."

At least there's that, no weird hedgehog diet. He can eat regular people food just like all the regular people.

"Great," Steve says. "Stay here. Try not to fall asleep. I'll be right back."

And then he disappears for a bit, going to scrounge up something to eat. There's not a whole lot at the hospital, but he's got a bit of jerky of some sort of meat, and a piece of some form of bread for Sonic.

Good news, he's not asleep! Bad news though, he was damn close to being asleep. He startles awake when Steve comes back in, looks very uncool and a bit frazzled for a second, but then he's good. Mostly.

"I'm awake! I think."

"Good," he says, as he tries to hand off the items to Sonic, so that he can eat.

"This is what we have downstairs. I'll try to get something else but - delivery's a little sparse at the moment."

Sonic takes the food and is already like half way through his bread by the time Steve finishes talking. Hm, not a lot of food. Just like being stuck underground during the volcano thing. Right. Maybe Sonic should slow down and pace himself just a bit.

"Don't worry about it, save what's left for someone else. I'm not very big, I don't need as much food."

Is that actually true?? He's not saying!

Yeah, but Sonic's got a fast metabolism. Maybe not anymore. "I'll scrounge something up." It's a promise. He'll at least try.

At least, in this form, Steve eats pretty much next to nothing.

Right now, the metabolism isn't anything impressive, at least. When they were all trapped underground with limited food and Sonic still had his powers, it was a real bad time. He can handle this.

"For someone else, right?"

HE'S FINE STEVE.

"Uh," he says, convincingly. "Yeah, I'm also really hungry."

So good at this. At least Sonic knows Steve could never ever lie to him because boy is he terrible at it. If he gave a fake name, it'd probably be Roger Stevens.

"I totally believe that."

He doesn't. It's okay, Sonic's a terrible liar too, they can bond over it.

He'll only go later, anyway, when there's someone else to watch Sonic, probably. He does want to make sure Sonic gets over his sleepiness. But it does look like his leg is patched up - unless his wounds burst open or he gets an infection, Steve will internally breathe a sigh of relief.

"How's the leg now?" he asks.

"Still uncomfortable? But not near what it was before, it feels a lot better."

At least for now. Now let's see how long he can stay off that leg and let it heal!

...Not long, it turns out. As soon as powers start coming back he's going to be running his ass off and just messing it up all over again, but that's a future Sonic problem.

Steve will find it a relief when he does heal, but he'll be worried the entire time Sonic is running around on that leg.

For now, though, he'll let it go. "Great." He checks Sonic for a fever, and then he checks that his leg isn't swelling, too.

As he should be.

No fever, the leg hasn't swollen up any more which could half be because of the bandages, but that's fine.

"There aren't any spare blankets around here, are there?" Cuz ya boi is pretty chilly now that's he's done running around and getting eaten.

"I'll go look for one," Steve says, because he really actually doesn't know if there are. But he's sure there must be; it's a hospital.

"Stay right here. One second." In the meantime, he can have Steve's jacket. It's too big for him anyway, since it fit on him before the event.
