Someone probably should have told Steve Rogers to stay put, but it's Steve Rogers, so he's doing no such thing. Unfortunately for everyone around him, he's lost his serum, which means that he's currently swimming in his shirt and had to cut a new hole in his belt just to hold his pants up, because he doesn't have time or resources to go to Alien Target to get a new set of clothes.
If you're lucky, then you'll meet him at the hospital, where he'll be tending whatever wounds you have, extremely carefully.
And if you're unlucky, then he's out on town trying to gather supplies or find food to bring back, or even just to check in on other people. It seems that no one remembered to remind Steve that he's no longer resistant to whatever's in the air, so he doesn't travel long distances. And whether he ducks inside wherever you are just to breathe a little easier, or whether he's outside looking like whatever he's carrying is bigger than he is, well. He's struggling a little.
And if you're really, really unlucky, Steve might be in the middle of engaging with one of the creatures. What he lacks in combat ability, he has in spades in actual learned skill, so even though he's having a real hard time with it because there's no power in his kicks and he'd absolutely get bodied by a large rodent, he's still out here trying. He's just in need of an assist.

Somehow, luckily, Steve's managed to stay alive, and he's run into a couple uh, familiar-adjacent faces. After he parts ways with them, he heads on over to the department store in order to find the gate so that he can help shut it down. With his acrobatic skill, resistance to poison, and newly-acquired energy shield, he's much-better equipped than he had been to run around town.Wildcard
He makes it late enough to see people gathering around it, though the creatures keep coming out so it's not like it's hard to miss. "Behind you!" he shouts as he tosses his shield at one of the demo dogs, knocking it to the side and catching his giant laser frisbee.

"And seeing if anyone can't make it to the hospital." But needs to go.
It does look incredibly short-sighted because Steve absolutely appears less like a fighter and more like a lost korok, but he really can take care of himself! Sort of!

Sure, the man was small and skinny - but so was Link, so that wasn't why he was so dubious. Nor was it a judgement on his apparent fighting ability, as the man had also moved like someone who knew how to fight. No - it was the way the man breathed, like he had a little trouble getting enough air. He didn't look like someone who was in top fighting condition.
"Diner has food," Link says. "I'll take you." Because Link certainly wasn't going to leave the man to go alone, and undefended.

"Sure you've got somewhere else you need to be." He's also about as stubborn as a mule and feels like he's got a whole lot to prove when he's like this.
no subject
"Yes," Link says, looking at Steve. "The Diner. With you."
no subject
"Fine, but only if you eat something" he says, because the longer he stands here the more he loses the argument and the greater chance they get more creatures.
no subject
And - maybe he could make Steve a nice mushroom skewer? Maybe a fish curry? Or...if he's feeling really fancy, perhaps a berry crepe...
Already dreaming of everything they could eat when they get to the Diner, Link starts walking towards the Diner, looking back to make sure Steve follows. And looking around, in case there are more monsters lurking nearby.
no subject
He stills when he hears the flapping of demobats, and holds out a hand to signify in case Link didn't hear - though his ears are so long, of course he must've heard. It's tense while he waits for them to pass.
no subject
At the sound and Steve's signal, Link silently sheaths the Sword. Pulls out the compound bow that Dustin made for him. And points it, steady, towards the demobats. As they fly into view, his arrow tracks them - but he doesn't fire.
They haven't been spotted - yet. But the moment they start coming in their direction, Link will shoot.
no subject
But after a tense minute, it seems like they weren't spotted and the demobats fly off, not in aim, but in search of something else.
The diner sounds great right about now, and Steve continues moving, quietly.
no subject
Fortunately, the Diner isn't far. "This way," Link says softly, before ducking into the street that will take them there. And sure enough, within a few minutes they arrive.
The Diner is still and quiet, as Link carefully opens the door and peeks inside. Are there any of the creatures inside, laying in wait?
no subject
Steve slides in and closes the door behind both of them, before going into the back to see if anyone's on staff. Looks like it's quiet, so he'll make some food to place around so that everyone can eat something.
The only problem is, Steve's not a good cook. So, Link may want to volunteer once he sees Steve pull out some ingredients.
no subject
Except...those ingredients don't go together at all. The man's just going to end up with something a bit dubious, that way.
"Do...you have a recipe?" Link says. From the furrow between his eyebrows, and the way he's looking from Steve's ingredients, to Steve, to the ingredients again...he looks a but dubious.
no subject
And he grew up during a time when any food was good food and he'd make it work, enough to be edible. He'll. Make an attempt.
But he can't make Link do the cooking, not after he came to help...
no subject
"I know one," he says, before pushing some of the vegetables towards Steve. "Chop these."
And then he moves into action, getting together everything else he's going to need - and putting back some of those ingredients that Steve pulled out which are Not Going To Work.
no subject
"You don't want to use the ketchup? It's still good," he says. "I checked the expiration date."
no subject
As for the suggestion about the ketchup...
"...No," Link, giving Steve a brief flat look that says, 'Are you serious?' He's not going to use ketchup. Not for this recipe.
no subject
But he'll stay away from the ketchup, because apparently that upsets Link.
And of course, Steve's not remotely picky. As long as he gets to eat anything, it'll be fine.
no subject
What will soon become clear though, is that Link really isn't irritated at needing to take over from Steve at all. From the way he bustles around the kitchen, humming to himself cheerfully, it's not hard to see that he's happy to be cooking.
This isn't just something he does to get food at the end - he genuinely enjoys it.
And when Steve's finished chopping those vegetables, Link whisks them away to be deposited into the cooking pot, along with some nice tasty baconrooms. It sizzles away nicely - and it already smelling very good.
no subject
Link, he's pretty sure just by smelling his cooking, is absolutely not bachelor material like he is. "That smells great," he says. "What is it?"
He gets the distinct feeling that Link is not much of a talker, so he might not get a straight answer, but he certainly is interested!
no subject
"Cream of mushroom soup!" he says, as he adds gives the soup a little stir. And adds a little seasoning, to make it nice.
no subject
"Sounds great. You should work at the diner more often," he says.
no subject
Link likes cooking - and likes cooking for other people, even - but he's not really one to follow an actual schedule. And why shouldn't he cook a prime meat curry at 3am if he feels like it?
no subject
If they have to live this way, at least some people can cook.
"So what'd you do at home?" he asks, because the whole place is going through it but there's no need not to be polite.
no subject
Congratulations Steve - you now have set in your future a middle-of-the-night comms message, for that 3am prime meat curry.
Then he hums softly, considering Steve's question as he gives the soup another stir. What does he do at home?
"Fight monsters. Protect Zelda. Collect things."
