The Hooded Cultists Chant, 'Hail Lord Vecna.'

Who: Eddie Munson, OTA
What: D&D
Where: (The Diner) A Room in TBD
When: Throughout the month
Warnings: TBD

You awaken suddenly, with no memory of how you got here.
You aren't alone.
None of you, it seems, have come here by design.

The room is dark, lit only by the moonlight shining in through the window. The room is made of stone, old and crumbling in places, with moss starting to creep in. Thankfully, your captors seem to have left you with your belongings. Less helpfully, the door to this place is locked.

Why are you here? Where is here and how will you escape? Tell me adventurers, what do you do?

(ooc: Tags will be played out 'in character' with Eddie chirping in as your Narrator. Feel free to include asides of your actual characters as well of course. Due to the potential number characters who may tag, people may which to break off into asides, tagging order may get thrown out, have fun with it, don't stress.)

Rolfor Nichtiv is a blind bard. He had a very sad run-in with a pair of glasses that were actually a Mimic. We don't talk about it. He covers up the damage with what he was told is a very elegant scarf wrapped around his eyes. In reality it's hideous and garish. But despite it all, he can play the lute like a fucking beast. But, given he's blind, the darkness of the room is lost on him.

He feels around, making grossed out noises when he touches the moss. He manages to get around until finding to the door and testing the handle. Locked. Of course. What the fuck else?

"Hey! Anyone around here who can tell me if there's a key somewhere? Or an axe? I'm not picky..."

While the bard patted his way around, Temper Hammond stood like a wall at the centre of the room. He was imposingly tall and broad for an Aasimar, bigger still for the blessed armor of a paladin that he wore, and he only moved once to raise a hand and cast Light.

"Can I do a perception check?" he said in a voice that didn't exactly fit his intimidating form. "It's a 17."

"Wait, I gotta roll just to- how much math do we have to do in this game? That's it, I quit, I thought you said it was like gambling!"

This came from an exasperated rogue by simple name of Ace, yelling at what was presumably the ceiling, who while also feeling around, was inspecting the contents of people's pockets. Just to make sure they're in good order and all, of course. And might fit better in his own.

"-ooh, fifteen, that's good, right?"

Rolfor doesn't even have to think about a perception check. He just waits as everyone else looks around, continuing to pat as he explores. "Fuck!" He walks into the desk's chair, stubbing a toe. But hey, a desk!

Rolfor starts looking for drawers.

"Okay, how many people are in here? Have pity on the blind dude and let me know who you are. My name is Rolfor."

At least it didn't appear to be a cell, though maybe it should have been for the thief that Hammond glared at as he stood in the circle of his Light and shamelessly lifted the paladin's coins from his pocket. He still didn't move, though, for the time being, scanning thoughtfully as he answered in a booming voice, "Hammond." Then, much more flirtatiously, "Oh, that better be a secret door. Let's see a secret door." He toed up the edge of the rug.

Despite being caught red-handed, said thief grinned right up at the paladin. "Wow! They sure do grow 'em big where you're from. What do they feed you?"

Even so, he was already moving away to inspect the rest of the room, and perhaps even Rolfor's pockets. Never knew what a blind bard could misplace! "Name's Ace," he said as he drifted over to the shelves, head tipping under his hood as he started inspecting books.

"-yes he does enjoy books," the rogue asides to no one and everyone, abruptly. "Nightlight's checking out the rug? I claim bookshelf. Do I need to roll again or something? Wait, do we roll for everything?"

Rolfor touches the key and lets out a sharp cry of success. "Hey! I think I found something over here!" He holds up the key, grinning. "I don't know if this is gonna fit anything important but it's definitely a key of some sort. Gotta be useful."

The big, intimidating paladin purred, "Oh, you're so good to me," at the trap door, then froze reluctantly, with a calculating look between his party members. A proper paladin wouldn't just fling the door open impatiently, he would have a battle plan and declare it with confidence and no one would question him and it would be very patriotic. He cleared his throat and instructed, "Try the door," to Rolfor, then pointed to Ace and said, "Trade." If he went mopingly away from the trap door where a rogue would see a trip wire, to investigate the stupid books, that was just because his armor was very heavy.

"It's not robbery if the guy's blind and hasn't noticed the other stuff there," the rogue pointed out as he slipped over to investigate and promptly relieve the drawer of the rest of its unclaimed contents. "-no that was out of character, why would I say that to his face?"

Ace then wandered towards the trapdoor, shoving one of the books he'd been hanging onto at the paladin before settling down.

"Ookay, let's see what we got here..." A far-off clatter. "I'd say six is good because you know, but in relation to how many sides of this thing there is, it's probably not."

"The blind dude would like to point out that his ears work super well to compensate," the bard grumbles to the powers that be. "And he's the one with a key at the moment. Probably locks as good as it unlocks, right?"

Rolfor takes the key and makes his way over to the door, feeling for the keyhole before shoving it in. "Do I need to roll to see if the key is opening this sucker or is this a yes or no sort of thing? Either way I am... ahem," Rolfor's voice adjusts to be vaguely British, "I'm gonna see about this door, here. And if the key unlocks it, I am absolutely just pushing it open, wide, and cheering with a 'Ta da!'."

"Don't fight," was probably reasonably in character, but immediately getting irritated by some accounting text and deciding to pull all of the books from the shelf was maybe a little impulsive. But there might have been something behind, or hiding in one of them! Hammond shook out a few of the tomes just in case, looking around for what might be small enough for the key to fit. "The window would be boring. Maybe there's treasure down there," he suggested, keeping his distance from the trap door now. "I mean, there's definitely treasure down there, you should go get it."
deal_me_in: (Then I shot that guy)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2023-09-15 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Who's fighting? No one's fighting. Except maybe Rolly and the door."

The rogue studied the trapdoor to see if it was locked or if it was just sitting there waiting. In the latter in which case he would just try to haul the thing open because he needed no one telling him what to do and would have tried either way.

-and if it was locked, well, he was just going to go snatch that key from the bard to apply it accordingly.

Okay, he's still somewhat newly blind, dicks. Someone could have pointed out the size difference before he was a moron trying to shove it in a too-big hole. There's a sex joke in there, somewhere. But whatever. Fine. Rolfor turns around and offers the key to the others in the room. Fucking snatchy rogue over here.

"Didn't work. Anything else around here need a key? That I am happy to hand over with patience and grace?"

"I told you there was treasure," Hammond said, though he wasn't coming any closer to help with wrangling that treasure. Instead, he cast a shield for Ace, so he wouldn't have to take another hit quite that bad and Hammond could continue to investigate the shelf by punching it as hard as he could. "Maybe there's something back here," he invited Rolfor to help him casually.

("You can't even trust doors around here?! I don't like this game. -am I dead?")

Ace yelped as the trapdoor betrayed him. "NOT TREASURE!" he felt the need to clarify, reaching for- "Wait, what do I have again? There's no guns in this game, right? Oh, that'll do-" his knife to slash at the offending mimic.

"I'll help you!"

Rolfor hears the fight with Ace and the trap door and starts playing his lyre furiously. However, he isn't a hundred percent sure where Ace is so he just sort of faces that general area and.... (rolling dice...) Perception came back 2 with penalties on it. So let's say the bardic inspiration is...not all that helpful?

Not that Rolfor would know.

"Here! Be inspired!"

The sudden blare of music had Hammond blocking one ear to keep focus, frowning as he grumbled, "Yeah, okay, never mind, do that." He could figure out if this was a false shelf with the absolute ecstasy of a second secret door behind it by tearing at the wood on his own, probably in good enough time that he could yank the other two thought it and out of this doomed fight before they had to reroll. Probably. "Another secret door would be worth a pony," he mused to no one in particular.

Preoccupied with the mimic as he was, the rogue had no idea what Hammond was up to. He'd worry about it later. If there was a later.

Ace slashed with his blade as the blessed numbers in his head granted him a fifteen. His grin however turned into a grimace at the blare of...

"Haha! Are you seriously rocking out on a lyre? That is so cool. Right, anyway- I don't know about being inspired but I've always wanted my own theme music!"
