I knew I was gonna regret making her that web shooter

Who: Peter B Parker, OTA
What: Arrival and exploring
Where: Temba, fountain, diner, replicator
When: early month
Warnings: None

Arrival

Having appeared and touched the weird ball, Peter sat on the edge of the fountain and rested his chin in May's hair as he processed. The Dimensional Travel Watch would have been the obvious answer, but it wasn't working. So far at least he wasn't glitching, which would imply he was still somewhere in his own dimension.

"Nah, don't worry Kid," he assured as May looked up at him with those big eyes, Peter lifting his head to smile at her, "If I can't figure this out there's a whole Society that'll track us down eventually."

And so, with that existential panic halted for the moment, Peter took to exploring.

The Diner

Wandering inside, Peter looked over the available food, sampling a few straight from the share plates but not finding what he was looking for.

"Hey, uh- you guys got milk around here? Formula? Baby food, any of that?" he asked, mouth full and a hand on the baby strapped round his chest.

Replicators

Whatever you were planning to do at the replicators, it probably wasn't babysit. But a squirmy and bright eyed baby girl was passed off to you before you could get out an objection.

"Hey! Great, can you just- hold onto this for a second-?" the girl's presumable guardian requested, needing a moment to concentrate as he typed chemical compounds into the machine.

Said child seemed to be quite the escape artist, and was going to make it very difficult to hold onto her.

"You know, something like this would have saved me a whole lot of time back in the day," he said, gesturing to replicator, taking out vials he'd produced and holding up a finger, "Just- one more sec- I swear," he insisted, putting the finishing touches on something before- "There we go Mayday! You have your web-shooters back, just like Daddy."

Replicators

Handing a ten year old a baby can be a risky move as in the grand scheme of things, he’s practically a baby himself. He instinctively takes the child that’s hand to him, a short noise of protest escaping him.

Pikachu, ever present on his shoulder seems very excited about the small human, chattering excitedly and leaning in for a closer look. He doesn’t usually see humans this tiny. Not up close anyway.

”Pika! Pikachu!” he says happily.

"Wah! Hey, hold still." Ash says to the squirmy child that he's really no match for. She's easily able to get free. "Uh-oh..."

Pikachu sees those grabby hands and moves up to Ash's head. He's likes the small human but he does not want his ears, cheeks or tail pulled on. If May tries follow him, he'll jump down and climb up to Peter's head instead.

"Pika..." he says uncertainly.

Ash is far more used to being climbed than perhaps most people would be so he only winces a little. Pikachu watches from his relatively safe perch on Peter's head, staying perfectly balanced until the small human is secured back with her dad. He hops directly off Peter's head, down to Ash who catches him with ease.

Now that that's all over and done with, Pikachu resumes his original place on Ash's shoulder.

"Sorry about that." Ash offers a little sheepishly. "Anyways, I'm Ash, and this is Pikachu."

"PiKachu!" The yellow mouse says in greeting.

Diner

It was just supposed to be a quick duck in for a coffee and something Tony could convince himself was kind of a bagel, and that had been an hour ago. There was a lot to fix, shaken apart by the earthquakes or cracked by the heat and falling debris, and a lot that Tony doubt he was capable of doing, and even more that his hands itched to build to keep his heart from rending its way out of his chest. The diner itself was in fine shape, it was the sheer amount of work that he was trying to solve then; a more efficient workflow, futureproofing. Instantly hot water for more coffee meant never having to stop. That he had a compulsion to make intricately contained explosive chemical reactions was only most of the problem.

He was on the floor of the kitchen, parts and tools spread around him like he had already exploded, and if anyone else had come in since he started this project, he definitely hadn't heard them. He only properly tuned in to the voice frequency by the third question, an insistent enough noise that he finally looked up, and could just barely see the top of a man's head over the edge of the counter. He was going to be annoyed by the interruption, but in that time he had processed the voice, and the eyes, and was already asking, "Jesus, Pete, what happened--?" as he rolled up onto his feet. From there, he could see the baby.

The last time he had seen Peter, he was an infant. Much younger than he should have been, but stably so since his arrival, and Tony had adapted. Now he was much older than he was supposed to be, like the universe had overshot in its recalculation. Baffled, Tony managed to produce, "Tell me that's not mine," hand to his heart, pointing at the mystery child. Of the two of them, Peter wasn't supposed to be the one ruining women's lives.

If the affection wasn't convincing, the name certainly completed the equation, bringing Tony's other hand back to his heart as he had to go through a series of cascading failures before he could adjust to Spider-Man growing his family and how he had somehow missed it but also maybe had that to look forward to and, oh, she knew him. Don't cry, you don't have your sunglasses on. He pushed himself into what he hoped was a sauntering lope closer, and not as unsteady as it felt, to pour himself down onto one elbow on the counter, stretched close enough to wiggle his free hand back at the baby as he accused, "You dog." He could probably stare at her forever, but for the nagging awareness that this wasn't a particularly effective use of his time, and he was going to have to stop the smile that he didn't realize had spread entirely on its own to address the more serious concerns, "Is it just the two of you? Where's...?" He had a strong hypothesis about where May's red hair had come from, he'd seen that same tangle some early morning's in the Tower, but risks were a little too steep for a bad gamble.

The Diner

Radley comes out, hearing the unusual request. "Hi! ..." He blinks several times. A baby is not at all what he expected to see. "I can come up with milk, but I don't know if it would be a good kind for her. How old is she?"

[personal profile] crystalmaster 2023-09-06 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh, okay," Radley says slowly. "Sorry, I don't have much experience with babies."

He smiles. "Well, partially. There's others too. I'm Radley."

Arrival

And perhaps Peter's in luck, because look! - on the side of that building he's walking by, someone is climbing up towards the roof. Maybe they could be one of that Society he's hoping for.

Except no - this isn't one of the Spider-people at all. This climber clearly isn't sticking to anything. There's no supernatural ability in how he scales the building. Just normal, ordinary climbing skill. And probably a decent amount of strength, considering that he's also lugging up a sword, shield, and bow on his back as well.

Link pauses in his climb, eyes widening just a fraction as he turns to see the man walk up the wall.

He's seen this before.

"...You stick like Peter!" he says.

He's asking just as the door opens and an older woman sweeps in, full of grace and poise, a dog at her heels. Which of course, she has to take a second to shoo outside because she knew better than to let Little Bear inside where he might make a mess or disturb young Thomas if he was in.

Once that was done the woman moved over to Peter and offered a smile.

"I'm not sure it is milk as you would know, but I believe I could go milk a Bantha for you, in hopes that it might work. I think someone has a single cow, but I don't know where it is, as it's a pet. As for baby food, that's easy enough to make."

When she reaches Peter's side she hold out a hand.

"Lark."

"Indeed. They are large animals with horns and thick fur. They do produce milk of course, otherwise I would not suggest it."

As for Peter, she offers him a brief nod. But to May? The woman may be older but she is not so caught up in her own dignity that she cannot lean in to wave her fingers and coo a greeting at the girl.

"Well are you not truly adorable. Would you like some nice little outfits? I could happily make you some of all sorts of colors from the leftovers of the other clothes I make."

Because for her scrap cloth can just be woven together into something whole.

Whoever this man is, he has made a grave mistake by handing the child to the one person in the city that holds no direct fondness for children. Though he shows no difficulties in preventing the toddler from squirming out of his grasp while closely observing what the adult is doing.

Did he just hear web-shooters?

Wesker frowns. "You have three seconds to take this back." He notes flatly, obviously referring to the toddler.

May is pushed back into Peter's hands before he can finish and Wesker is quick to step up to the replicator himself, swiftly typing in a long row of commands with a scowl of disapproval.

"Why are you arming the child?" He asks pointedly. Of course he recalls Peter threatening him with his web shooters as well as them being used against him. It's hardly something he deems appropriate for the hands of a child.
