Who: Wanda Maximoff & you!
What: Exploration time

Where: Greenhouse, hospital, and the forest outskirts

I. The Greenhouse
[Close to dinnertime you might come across Wanda standing in the greenhouse staring thoughtfully out over the vegetation.]

We could make a soup, I think. If we had a fire and something to cook it in...it would be better than just eating raw vegetables.

II. The Hospital
[The canisters are already ruptured by the time she gets there. Hospitals have always made her uncomfortable, but it's better to take stock of what they have and what they might need now, before anyone needs it. And it would be good to have some idea of how necessary certain aspects of her powers might be and where she might try to explore and push them.

Except while she's exploring the halls, she starts feeling warm and light-headed, and a little bit claustrophobic. She knows whoever worked here is long gone, but the hallways feel cramped and sinister and finally Wanda decides that she can't take it anymore. She turns to start making her way out (going out a window would be quickest but she feels off) and the world lurches sideways. Wanda stumbles into the wall to brace herself and leans her forehead against it. It's nice and cool. She'd stay here for a while if it didn't feel so threatening...

...but it does, and so Wanda's stumbling down the hallways with a hand braced on the wall to steady herself. Just a little farther...]

III. closed to Vision
[They walk hand in hand, Thistle chirping happily at the chance to explore a more familiar environment. Wanda's hair is braided now, looped through itself to hold, and while she misses the feel of the wind (or her lover's fingers) in it, it's not worth how much trouble it would be to detangle it later.

She leans up to kiss Vision's cheek and squeezes his hand.]

Over there? [There's a small clearing around a large tree, and it looks like a nice place to have a talk. Wanda trots ahead to beat him to it and settles back against it between the roots.] Come here, love.

[He's been keeping her as comfortable as he possibly could, and it's time to return the favor.]

Tastes like what now?

[Yes, he knows he shouldn't use his speed, but damn if Tommy isn't over there like a blur to lean in and inspect the thing. With a grin at that.]

We could call it a bacoom. Or a Mushcon. Or maybe a Baconroom? No, that sounds like a room full of bacon. Which would be really good too. Wait!

[He grins with all the delight of a kid that has found a new toy.]

I have GOT to take this to Billy. He can taste bacon. I don't know if the Kaplans kept kosher enough for no bacon. But if they did, he can have this!

Whatever you do, don't call it a mushcon. Unless you want to keep it all for yourself. [It doesn't exactly sound appetizing like that.] Or maybe you could call it a baconshroom?

[His excitement is contagious and she's grinning. But something's not quite making sense. How doesn't he know?

The immediate answers her brain supplies (adoption? did something happen to his parents too?) are all very dark and so Wanda lets it slide. She doesn't want to pry into a painful past.]

Even if they didn't, I think he'll still be happy. It's something familiar.

[Questions not to ask, Wanda. Why it's Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd and they absolutely look identical except for coloration and muscle definition. Because that one will break Tommy's head.]

Baconshroom is just a meh kinda name. But we'll go with it.

[Because she suggested it. And he grins, taking a small piece to chew on before walking backwards toward the loamy area again. He's got to get that goard-like thing for her.]

Damn, it tastes good enough for it to make up for being a mushroom. If you chop that up real good, people might not even know. Plus it's better tasting than fake meat. I've got to give one to Billy. But it'd be greedy to take one just for us, right?

[Well, good thing neither of them mentioned their last names. But someone who comes from a place that was full of splintered families knows better than to just blunder into that sort of question anyway.]

There are not that many words you can make with 'bacon' and 'shroom.'

[Because anything with 'mush' is right out.]

I won't tell if you take one for him. We have to take happiness where we can find it.

I don't know, I've made up a lot of words so far. It's been a lot of fun.

[He does smile and pocket a mushroom, because how could he not? Wanda is pretty awesome, but he won't say it.]

Let me get that other thing for you, sound good?

Don't push yourself too much.

[Look, she's not his mom ~~wanda you sweet summer child~~ but she is his family and can't help but feel somewhat responsible for him. It's all too easy to fall into old patterns with Tommy.]

But now I'm curious.

[Oh don't make him laugh at the awkwardness of that thought. Please. But he grins because, just like Pietro, he's all about taking care of Wanda. His twin too, but Wanda's high up on his list. He rushes off to the patch and starts digging, finally pulling out a gourd nearly the size of his head. It's sorta like a tiger effect, irregular gray stripes scratched across a pale brown skin. The thing clearly weighs a few pounds.

He move back to Wanda and presents it with a grin.]

So this? The stuff in my head says it's really filling. I don't know what it tastes like, though. I haven't had one. The sensation the thing suggests is... sorta savory? There's a word, they use it in japanese, for things like that. I know it starts with a U but I don't remember it.

[Umami is what he's thinking of and not generating. And, honestly, the thing will taste like a potato, but very umami instead of bland. It will be perfect for soups.]

Just, you know, the spots on it that look like potato eyes? Cut those off, for me, with a bit of the original root too. Then we can replant those to make new ones.

It's cute. [But it's a little heavy and so Wanda takes it with her powers because she can.]

Umami? This should be good, then. I think I can make something tasty for dinner for us.

['Us' being them and Billy and maybe Sansa and some of the other Avengers. As many people as she can feed at once, really.]

I'll get them back to you then.

[Us. Like he fits in and matters. Tommy smiles. Yeah. That's... that's nice.]

Tell me when and where, and I'll see about getting B there too. No way he'd turn down the chance to eat with his favorite Avenger. You know, who isn't his twin or his fiance.

I meant all of us. A family dinner, maybe with the other Avengers and Sansa.

[It's just good to see them all again. Wanda's skills aren't particularly suited to this place, but she does know how to cook. And it won't be hard to extend a stew beyond three people.]

Vision was talking about making a fireplace for us so we can heat water and cook at home. It will be so much easier to make real meals for us then.

[Family dinner, with other people. Yeah, he can live with that. Avengers tend to see themselves and others as family. But Tommy, he just wants to be near her. And he knows Billy would want the same thing.]

How do you even make a fireplace? Maybe Billy can help him.

[Billy absolutely needs a way to bond with Pops.]

I don't know. [Wanda laughs, a little embarrassed. She's so out of her depth here and in some ways it's worse than being on the Fleet before she'd chosen a specialization. At least she understood basics of how the ships worked and how to pilot a shuttle and not explode.]

I think he was going to try to make a fireplace and chimney from things he's found? If I tried I think I would just fill the store with smoke, but he's much better with making things than I am.

[It's a good point, and Tommy nods.]

I'm pretty shit at making things that aren't tech that people give me step by step instructions for, right? Is... there a reason you guys chose the store?

It's private. [She looks away, seemingly unaware of the other implications "private" could have.] I...I can have...troubles, living close to lots of other people. Especially people I don't know.

[Nights aren't as much of a problem with Vision around, but it can still be mentally exhausting. Having somewhere quiet to retreat to is nice.]

If the water isn't working it isn't worth it.

[And well...yes the privacy is also good for that but like hell Wanda's going to admit it.]

[The look on Tommy's face? The same look that comes from a teen having that moment of realization that their parents still have sex. Because that is EXACTLY what this moment is. Because he never THOUGHT ABOUT his parents having sex. But there he is, all pale and shocked. Oh.]

I. Uh. Right. That makes. Sense. Okay.

[Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. His mom is having sex with the Synthezoid. He is scarred for life.]

[Wanda has the decency to look confused for a minute, because ~~her mind doesn't live in the gutter~~ that reaction doesn't make sense-- oh.

And the Scarlet Witch is now scarlet.]

I didn't-- if I am going to have nightmares here, I want them to be only mine. [She can't expect Vision to be with her 60/7 after all, and everyone's so stressed that even if he was, she wouldn't be surprised if something snuck through.] It's nice to have somewhere quiet to go without so many other minds.

[~~And it's not like she doesn't know how to be quiet and not get caught in shared living situations. Moving to the hotel wouldn't stop anything...~~]

[Dude, this is just something he doesn't like thinking about. He didn't need to know his family was like this. Even though yeah, his mom deserved it. But geez.]

So you really are a telepath then? Like, you read minds? Stay out of mine, okay? I'm told it's bad to try and pry into a speedster's mind.

[Wanda just raises an eyebrow at him. Who exactly does he think grounded her and helped her stay sane in those early months? But a heartbeat later, she deflates.

It's not unusual for people to react this way when they find out what she can do, and it's not that Wanda doesn't understand why someone might be anxious about her. That doesn't make it sting any less, especially from someone who claims to be family.]

I don't want your secrets. [It's not usually about that these days anyway unless there's a specific reason - if she gets a chance, she's going to try to read the Agrii, whether or not she can get someone to come with her.] But I don't have any defenses while I'm asleep.

[It's not that he's anxious around her for his sake. He's scared of what happens if she learns who she really is to him. The lying to her first and foremost might really get him in trouble. Which raises the question of whether she has the authority to ground him. He's going to go with no, because he's eighteen. Because that saves the headache of figuring it out less.]

I mean, I'm told speedsters give huge headaches to telepaths if our minds are as fast as our bodies. And mine is. It's like, informational overload causing migraines or something? Plus alternate world, so you might get worried about things I think that might come up in your future, but you know, not because you're from another world. So I'd rather not cause you confusion too.

[But no defenses when she sleeps? Ouch. Tommy frowns at that.]

I'm really sorry about that. I wish I had Magneto's helmet. We could take it apart, figure out how it worked, and make you like a little thing to wear when you slept so your brain could rest too.

[She's barely five years older than him and besides, she'd have no idea how to be someone's mom. Her parents didn't survive long enough to model anything in the way of parenting teenagers or young adults. Grounding isn't a thing that's going to happen, even if everyone collectively decided she did have that authority.]

Magneto's helmet? [This means nothing at all to her.] Is he another telepath in your world?

[That makes sense - if it's not so uncommon, there must be better ways to help people deal with their powers.]

[Vision is younger than him, but Billy still looks at the guy as his not-quite-father.]

No, he's definitely not a telepath. He uses it to keep telepaths out of his head. He's magnetokineitc. He controls magnetic fields, and metal some.

[No mutants on her world, he remembers. SO he doesn't have to fuss over her not knowing her own dad.]

[It does sound a little fantastic, doesn't it? Dampen might be one thing, although Wanda's not sure that's possible without magic. But completely block?

Maybe that works on a 'regular' telepath. But who knows how she differs from them.]

There are only two things that have ever been able to stop me. Electricity and tranquilizers.

[Her expression softens.] It is not so bad when Vision's mind is close. He doesn't dream, so...no more nightmares.

[Yeah, he's not going to try and explain how he doesn't think she compares to Charles Xavier. Even if she is the best telepath or whatever of her world, there are strong people that can do only that back home, who even Tommy would fear.]

It might help. But it doesn't matter because we don't have it.
