001. ice castle
Sansa has never seen something so beautiful as the ice castle and she's immediately drawn to it, being a child of winter as she is. When she steps foot into it, she has an indescribable urge to sing in the way she hasn't for years and years and she lets the song rise up within her, high soprano notes amplifying beautifully within the space and against the crystal walls. Lady, too, seems a bit awed and doesn't make any noise at all, merely looking at her mistress and how happy she is - how long it has been since she's been truly this happy. It's as if everything is perfect in this one moment and Sansa wants to freeze it for all eternity.
She reluctantly leaves after a few songs and when she exits, she realizes others will have been able to hear her. Her cheeks are colored a bit but she hopes this can be chalked up to the cold as she is a Queen and shouldn't be embarrassed that people have heard her sing.
002. children
It's been a long while since Sansa has been around children. Many have died in Westeros to war and cold and famine and there were no children in the Fleet. She still carries the child in her belly, though, and it's begun to show. Rather than hide it the way she might in the North, she only lets out her clothing a little and it's evident to anyone that she's pregnant and rather happy about it.
She'd thought herself a proper little mother to Rickon when he'd been born, having been just old enough to care after him similar to the way her Lady Mother and Old Nan had. There seem to be an inordinate amount of children here, though, and some of them look awfully familiar to her - are they children of her traveling companions? Is that possible? One runs headlong at her in the way children are won't to do and she carefully catches them by the shoulders, kneeling slightly so she might look in their eyes.
"Careful, sweetling. You'll hurt yourself if you keep running like this. Come with me and we'll find somewhere to play properly, all right?"
003. snow queen
There's plenty of snow here and while Sansa isn't capable enough of making snow maidens on her back just now as she had as a child, she can build a snow castle the way she'd done as a little girl and, later, at the Eyrie. She knows every nook and cranny of Winterfell and she kneels in the snow to make it, using a bit of wood to help shape the delicate crenellations at the tops of the towers. She only has a branch to make the heart tree, which makes her sad, but it's still there all the same.
She's working on the bailey when she sees a shadow fall across her castle and she cries out in fear. "No, don't step on it! Please don't, I've been working for ages."

Yer a Queen?
[Oh, dear.]
My apologies, yer highness. 'Tis a lovely sculpture. Yer very talented.
[While Rayla didn't know what the original looked like in order to compare, Sansa's creative ability shone through well enough.]
no subject
( Sansa smiles at the compliment, though, adding a few finishing touches to her miniature Winterfell. )
I thank you for your compliments. It took me a long time to learn how to make snow castles as nice as this one. The ones I made as a girl were rather...lumpy.
no subject
I'm Rayla. It's nice to meet you, then, Sansa.
[She looked amused by the comment about lumpy castles.]
You had a good excuse. Children need time to learn. [Rayla wasn't too proud to hide the fact that she hadn't been a complete natural at her talents and that it had taken training and discipline to get to be as good of a fighter as she was. And, even then, she still had a few hang ups... like not being able to actually kill someone. An assassin who can't kill isn't really much of an assassin at all.]
no subject
( Sansa certainly hadn't and when she'd first learned to write, she'd always written the letter S backward on the parchment. It took a while to correct it. )

[Rayla shrugged a little sheepishly. For now, the pup in question was flopped on her leg where she sat near Sansa and the snow castle.]
Of course, I was younger then, too.
no subject
( Probably to bug Tyrion for treats, likely, since Sansa won't give them. )
Your pup is very cute, though. Do you have a name for it?
no subject
It's a good idea to train them yourself so it's easier to work with them. They'll be more likely to listen to you.
[She did look around a little, and then nodded.]
They do seem to like to make liars of us.
[The pup wagged its tail a little, and Rayla patted its head.]
Not yet. I was having some trouble coming up with one.
no subject
( Memory of home is often good for people and even Sansa has things around her that remind her of Winterfell. Perhaps Rayla has some special memory she could incorporate into a name. )
no subject
[Rayla was amused by the creativity thing, but she nodded all the same. Granted, she wasn't much older than that herself, but the idea of naming the shadowpaw for something from home was a nice idea.
Also, as far as creativity, Rayla had met Lujanne, and she had named her moon phoenix Phoe-Phoe {fee-fee}, so she supposed that even adults had their moments.]
A few things. [Rayla's expression turned fond for a moment, and then sad.] Would it be weird to name her for my mother if my parents had done something shameful? [It was something that often tore at Rayla's conscience. She was attempting to atone their misdeed, but she'd done one herself, in a way, hadn't she? Oof. It was such a conundrum... and she missed them terribly.]
no subject
( Sansa had felt shameful for a time about things she'd said and done but she doesn't any longer. Not for choices she'd made to survive. She doesn't know what Rayla's mother had done but in this place, it probably doesn't matter. )
no subject
She nodded a little.]
My mother's name is Tiadrin. [She reached over and gently rubbed the shadowpaw's head, the pup looking up at her and offering a small noise that sounded similar to a soft purr.] Would you like that name? [She nuzzled Rayla's hand almost as if in response.]
no subject
( It's undeniable that the shadowpaw is cute. Sansa half thinks she wants one for herself even if Lady is more than enough pet for anyone. )
no subject
Thank you.
I want to believe that my parents were good people. They were from what I remember, and I think... that's good enough for now.
[A lot had changed when it came to Rayla's opinions about people in general. While she was still ashamed of them having run away from their place as the Dragon Guard, she still sometimes hoped there was some other explanation of what had happened she hadn't thought of, yet.]
