Game Time.

Ash had every intention of playing this game the right way but the points he could earn could earn a certain yellow mouse his favorite food so really, he should have expected Pikachu would get involved. They both wait for the timer to start and Ash grabs the nearest balloon to pop it.

"This should be easy." He says confidently. Pikachu makes a noise of agreement that has Ash a little concerned as he turns just in time to see the sparks emitting from his friend's cheeks.

"Pika...." Ash can tell what's about to happen and he knows that's going to a very powerful thunderbolt.

"Pikachu, I don't know if-" He starts to try and deter the lightening mouse.

"CHUUUU!"

There's a harsh flash of light that can probably be seen from pretty far away as Pikachu aims his lightening at as many balloons as he can at once and in record time, all the the balloons have popped except the one Ash currently has in his hand.

Being as generally active as he is, it really doesn't take too long for Ash to amass several points. Enough that he's able to win back his Pokedex which, upon checking, really is his because it's registered to his name. It doesn't do him much good out here since the only Pokemon is Pikachu but just for fun, he holds it up to his partner to see what it does.

"Pikachu, the Mouse Pokémon, and the evolved form of Pichu. Pikachu can help other Pikachu who are feeling weak by sharing its electric current."

Pikachu looks up from where he's happily licking ketchup from the bottle and glances up at Ash and then looks at the pokedex. He's probably just checking to make sure it works.

"I wonder what happens if I try to scan one of the animals with it." Ash comments, collapsing it down to it's usual size and putting the device back in his pocket. Pikachu just shrugs with a small "Pika." and returns his attention to the bottle of ketchup.

Ash is very athletic and highly competitive so he'll want to try everything. He's particular good at climbing and anything that involves throwing something. Pikachu is here to help out if he can.

The pokedex stops talking just as Lark enters the Pry Says tent. The woman isn't carrying very large bag of chits with her, but she's hear to buy cheap things anyway. Her goals are sewing tools, nothing more.

"Did your device just talk to you?" she asked, moving forward with an intrigued look.

"Pika. Pikachu" Pikachu just goes back to happily licking the container of ketchup. Ash is really hoping he doesn't try to eat the whole thing in one sitting because that might lead to a stomach ache and there's still no Pokemon Center or Nurse Joy.

"Yeah, this is my pokedex." He hops up to his feet to show her. "It's also a kind of ID." He presses the button off to the side so the female electronic voice starts up again.

"This Pokedex is registered to Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town in the Kanto Region."

"It does more than just that though, if you hold it up to a Pokemon, it tells you which one it is and what type it is. He holds it up to Pikachu again to demonstrate how it works.

"Pikachu, the Mouse Pokémon, and the evolved form of Pichu. Pikachu can help other Pikachu who are feeling weak by sharing its electric current."

"It can also tell you information about berries and different plants."

How interesting. It seems to be getting information from Pikachu. And it knows things about berries and plants. How intriguing.

"Why don't you try it on things here? Perhaps it will provide information along the lines of the Dictionary does for animals and plants."

"I guess I could, but since this is a Pokedex Registered in the Kalos region, It probably will just tell me there's no data Found." Ash says thoughtfully. Still, couldn't hurt to give it a try the next time he sees one of the animals.

"There's no reason we can't alter it if not," she says thoughtfully. "Perhaps to acquire data about things the dictionary does not already have."

Yes, that could be interesting.

"I don't know..." Ash looks at his pokedex. "If it doesn't work, any my Pokedex breaks then I won't have another and I got this one from Professor Sycamore when I got to the Kalos region." Although, it would be cool to have something Pokedex adjacent that could tell him what everything is.

Ah, well then they shouldn't play with it she supposed. Still, it might have been interesting.

"It would be important not to break something so important."

It does sound interesting but Ash would have no idea where to even start looking for someone that could help with that. Maybe Dustin or Felwinter? They both seem pretty smart.

“Yeah, I have other Pokédexs back home but they’re all out of date.” Ash explains. “I guess it couldn’t hurt to ask someone if that could even be done…”

"I could look into it."

She was not the best at this, but she was a communications datapoint person. And she had been trying to learn.

"Whoa, really?" Ash asks, full of enthusiasm. "That'd be great." Although he's still feeling a little iffy on the idea. If it works great! If it doesn't.. well, perhaps he should worry about that, if it happens.

"Though, I'll be honest, I don't really now what made it work originally-I just know that it does."

"I will play with the idea with the communicators first. I would rather like to know that I could do it without breaking anything."

She did accidentally mess up the network that one time. But maybe she will do better now. Though with a treasured possession she would be a hundred times more cautious.

"Sure." Ash nods and then collapses the Pokedex down to its smaller size before storing it back in his pocket. He's not sure what good the Pokedex does him out here since Pikachu is the only one possibly on the planet-still a wild concept to him.

"...Do you think I'll ever see my other Pokémon, again?" He can't help but ask. He can't put into words how happy he is still have Pikachu by his side but he really misses all his other Pokémon. He wonders briefly about how they'd like this place.

Ah. That is a question. Lark considers it and then shakes her head in the negative.

"Little Bear found me, the dog that some of my wards raised. I can't see why yours would not find you."

Yo Ash I heard you wanna scan some animals with your Pokethingy so I brought you a big blue porcupine. Sonic's mostly distracted by this big meat skewer that he's gnawing on, and by distracted I mean he is deeply offended that he keeps picking up hints of peanut butter in everything that he's put in his mouth today. He's glaring at it as though hunting for secret peanuts, but he does stop having a staring contest with his lunch once he catches a glimpse of bright yellow out of the corner of his eye.

Ah hah, a kid and his pet thing! Perfect.

"Hey, does your cat like meat? I can't finish this, but I don't really wanna waste it by pitching it in the trash."

That's definitely an alien cat, right? He knows some cats, that's totally a cat!

Pikachu and Ash take a moment to realize that sonic is talking to them and then look at each other. Ash hasn't quite put the pokedex away again and with how it's angled in his hand it activates.

"No Data Found" The voice states. Ash glances at the pokedex and shakes his head. Pikachu has gone back to licking the ketchup bottle. If he didn't have the ketchup, Ash knows that he'd be highly offended.

"Cat?" He finally asks, sounding surprised. "No way. Pikachu's a mouse type." He explains. The Pokedex did just call him a mouse Pokemon.

Sonic eyeballs the thingy that Ash is holding before glancing at Pikachu. He'd been too distracted by his shitty meat skewers to hear the pokedex before, don't worry about it.

"A mouse, huh? With those ears, I totally thought it was a cat. My bad."

Sonic where the hell are you from that cat ears look like THAT??

Most people here usually ask if Pikachu is a rabbit because of the ears. Ash can kinda of see where the ears look kind of alike. A cat though? Every cat type Pokemon he's seen have always had little triangle shaped ears. He pulls the pokedex up again and looks up the first cat type Pokemon he could think of which of course would be Meowth.

"Meowth, the Scratch Cat Pokémon. When it sees round objects, it plays and loses track of time." The pokedex voices, displaying a picture tan cream colored cat with a gold charm affixed to its head.

"Hm, that doesn't sound like the Meowth we know at all." Ash frowns. Pikachu finally looks up from his ketchup to see what Ash is up to when he doesn't see any immediate threat he's back to licking the ketchup bottle.

"Little dude really likes ketchup, huh." Sonic comments idly, arching a brow as Pikachu goes to town on that ketchup before turning his attention back to Ash and his pokedex.

"I've never heard of Meowths or Pika-mice before. Is this another weird thing the Agrii are responsible for, or is this something from wherever you came from?"

"Yeah, but don't try to take it from him-you'll be in for a shock." Ash warns, not wanting a repeat of what happened back at the dinner. He'll try to convince Pikachu to let up here soon. Maybe if he explains it'll last longer if he takes it easy.

"Meowth and Pikachu are both Pokémon from back home. There's hundreds of different Pokémon and so many different types. Pikachu's an electric type and Meowth is a normal type."

"No worries, I don't think even ketchup could save this meat accident." He sighs and glares at his nasty peanut butter meat skewer before finally tossing it into a nearby trash can, having decided that it's too gross to try feeding to the little yellow dude.

"So... okay, so Pokémon are just animals? With powers or something, I assume. Electric makes sense..." He glances at Pikachu again, with that zappy lookin' lightning bolt tail of his. Sure, electric, cool. "What is normal type, what does that mean? Is there an abnormal type?"

Sorry Ash, you have to deal with all the dumb questions now.

Ash watches as the meat skewer is tossed aside. He doesn't want to, but he can't help but wonder what poor creature it was before... he shakes his head.

"There are lots of different types of Pokemon- grass, fire, water, bug, flying, ground, psychic, ghost-" He starts to tick them off on his hand. "Rock, Steel, Ice, Dark, Dragon, Fighting, Fairy and um..." he pauses to think about.

"Pikachu." Pikachu speaks up.

"Right! Poison!" Ash finishes his list.

Sonic is trying real hard not to think about where the meat around here came from. Things get weird when it comes to meat anymore.

"...Are the ghost ones just like, dead, or..." Y'know because that's the best thing to focus on. He'll just abandon that thought and glance over at Pikachu real quick. That wasn't a mouse noise, why are you saying your own name, little dude?

"No, he totally just said Pikachu."

"No? At least, not all of them." Ash answers, not realizing how alarming that might sound.

"Pika?" Pikachu looks up as Sonic is surprised by him saying his name.

"Well o'course he did. He is a Pikachu. Most Pokemon can only repeat their name. Although, he have a few that could talk through telepathy."

ASH WHAT???? Are there Poké-necromancers like what is going on?? Sonic gives Ash a very concerned look, but decides that he probably doesn't want to know just yet.

"That's... huh. So, wait, is he a Pikachu, or is his name Pikachu?"

It's fine Sonic, don't worry about the ghost Pokémon and how some of them are said to drag humans to Hell or guard the doors to the otherworld. It's nothing to be concerned about. Really, at the end of the day, Ghost Pokémon usually just want to play pranks on people.

"Both." Ash shrugged. "It's his name and he's a Pikachu." Look, he is a ten year old boy, what do you want from him?

"Pika PiKachu." Pikachu gestures to himself in a clear introduction. "Pika Pikapi. He gestures to Ash.

"Oh yeah, I completely forgot, My name's Ash."

Is it fine, though? Is it?

Ash naming your Pikachu Pikachu would be like if your mom named you Human. And also all you could say was your name, so you'd be going around yelling HUMAN HUMAN at people? ...Yeah, Sonic's just going to keep those thoughts to himself seeing as he's not really here to be a jerk for no reason. He might give Pikachu a nickname later, though.

"Right, nice to meet you guys. Name's Sonic."

In his defense, Pikachu kinda came with the name when Ash got him from Professor Oak. And he doesn't seem to mind.

"Nice to meet you!" Ash offers with a smile. "Guess we'll see ya around?"

Now, did Pikachu come up with it, or is Pikachu all Pikachu can say and when Pikachu said 'Pikachu' he was actually saying 'Jimmy' but everyone heard 'Pikachu' so they rolled with Pikachu?

I'll stop.

"Yeah, I'll be around. Not like there's a lot of places to go on this planet, anyway. Think I'm gonna go try to find something that doesn't taste like peanuts."

Who knows.

"There's plenty to explore still." Ash says excitedly. "Pikachu and I like to go to the edge of the forest most often- or over by the lake. You can find some really good berries there." Those don't taste like peanuts.

"Pikachu!" Pikachu nods in agreement.

"Berries by the lake, huh? I'll have to keep that in mind. I really need to pay more attention to keeping an eye out for stuff like that while I'm out looking around."

By 'looking around' he means 'zipping around fast as hell because he's bored', but y'know.
