i. Senseless animal murder aka Hunting [open]

Link's hunting more frequently these days. Mainly because he learned, much to his dismay, that without his korok-enchanted pack he doesn't have a good way to keep meat long-term. So rather than doing a lot of hunting at once, he needs to head out regularly for smaller kills that he can cook that day.

So he can frequently be found in the forests outside Temba - or Sh'ka, if he happens to be there instead - moving swiftly and silently, his compound bow at the ready.

Between the trees, he spots one of the small, dinosaur-like Gallies. Crouches down, and inches further. Before drawing his bow, aiming right for the creatures head, and letting the arrow go.


ii. You can never have too many shields [closed to Dustin]

Dustin had made Link promise not to tell anyone about the Workshop, or where it was. A promise he had absolutely taken seriously, and had kept.

What Dustin had not done, however, was make Link promise not to show up there whenever he felt like it.

The challenge, however, was getting in to the workshop. Dustin had evidently left a puzzle for Link, because he soon found that the door was locked and the windows boarded up. But there was this little square flap at the bottom of the back door. If Link takes of his Sword and bow and makeshift shield - and carefully lays them next to the flap - he might be able to squeeze through.

Which he, of course, immediately proceeds to attempt to do.


iii. Making The Frog Drink [closed to Tommy and Radley]

This wasn't Link's first time cooking at the diner. He'd become a bit of a regular, actually - though he was always happy to cook for everyone else around too, when he was there. Sometimes making unusually elaborate dishes using whatever new and interesting ingredients he'd managed to find.

Today, however, it was a bit different. Today, Link was experimenting.

Thanks to the Agriculture datapoint, he knew how to make something close to the elixirs he made back in Hyrule with local plants. But the datapoint didn't tell him anything about using animals, or insects. Which meant Link had to figure out what he could make by pure trial and error.

The end result of this was Link cooking up an increasingly odd series of concoctions, using things like butterflies, beetles, lizards, crabs, grasshoppers. And, of course, frogs.

Link had a good feeling about the frog. This one, he was sure, was going to do something.


iv. Are these the new Koroks? [closed to Funfronds]

Link had heard about the Funfronds from Dustin. Knew at least a little of what they were, from the Dictionary. But hearing about them was one thing - Link wanted to see them for himself.

And he was so very, very curious.

So, he's staked out the ruins near the greenhouse, late one evening. Thought a little about how he might indicate he was friendly to them. He ended up combing through the ruins, and leaving an apple or other piece of small fruit whenever he found a little nook or cranny. He didn't know if the Funfronds were anything like Koroks, but if they were - well, maybe they'd appreciate the gifts too? Course, Koroks also liked thinks like Link picking up rocks, and shooting balloons, and jumping into circles of lilies in the water...

...Maybe he'd try those later. If the apples didn't work. For now, though, he just sits in one corner in the ruins. And waits.



V. Wildcard!

"Probably better. So I can taste stuff to season it, you know?"

Seems reasonable to him.

"Tell you what, when the coffee is done we can both try."

Link nods. That makes sense to him - he does the exact same thing, when he's cooking.

So he sets down the elixir, and then settles in to watch the end of the coffee making process.

"What other things do your elixirs do?" Tommy asks as he leans against a counter to wait.

On the countertop, there's a few other concoctions that Link managed to figure out earlier. He points to each one in turn.

"Resistance to fire. Tougher skin. More speed. Electricity resistance. Being quiet."

More speed? Tommy almost wants to laugh.

"Keep the speed one away from me. I might break something. But... how long do these things keep? Like, shelf life?"

Link shrugs. He has...absolutely no idea.

"Ages?" He's never had one that had gone bad. But then again, he did have a magically enchanted pack that also kept all of his food from ever going off...

Ages? That's not helpful. That's interesting though.

"What do you need for them? The electricity resisting one."

In case Billy goes off the deep end power wise again.

"And how long does it last?"

“Joltcap.” And a few other ingredients, that Link rattles off. It considering that this particular recipe comes from the Agriculture Datapoint, how well that knowledge sticks with Tommy is another matter.

As for how long it lasts…

“A few hours.” Long enough to be useful, but not something that could be relied on all day.

Okay, Tommy will watch out for those. Tommy's mind, after all, didn't seem to stick to most agricultural recipes. He has to let it go most of the time.

"Can I commission you to make some of these for me? For emergencies?"

"Commission?" Link says, head tilted to one side. Tommy doesn't really need to do that.

Besides - there aren't any rupies here. What would Tommy even pay Link with?

"I'll make them."

"Thank you," Tommy says with a nod. That's what he's got. He needs this, because it will protect Billy, in the long term.

Link nods. And then looks at the brewing coffee. Which he is still desperately keen to try.

He looks from the coffee, to Tommy. Is it done yet?

Tommy finally pushes the plunger down.

"Can you get two cups?"

Link nods, before darting off to grab the cups, and darting back.

He puts them on the counter, right in easy reach for Tommy. Looks at him, and waits. But hopefully not for too long, because Link really wants to see what this 'coffee' is like.

Tommy pours the coffee and leaves room for sugar and milk.

"Okay, so there's a number of ways you can drink this. Some people add sugar to make it sweet. Or milk to mellow it. AS it is, it's bitter."

Really bitter. But Tommy happily sips his cup.

Link takes a sip. Of what would probably be too much at once. He frowns, looking at it.

It is bitter. Very, very bitter.

But...Tommy suggested alternatives. So Link puts in some milk, to see what that makes it taste like. Better - definitely better. Though still a taste he hasn't quite acquired yet.

Then he adds in some sugar too, because now he wants to know what that tastes like.

Tommy smiles at him trying stuff.

"I've learned to take it black because we've got not nearly enough sugar, but this works too. Some people put in chocolate or flavored syrups or caramel," he says with a smile. "There's a whole line of work caught up in this."

Chocolate. Flavoured syrup. Caramel. Link nods, taking mental note of all of these as recipes to try later.

He takes another sip. Considers it a but more, before adding in some more milk and sugar. Sips again.

Maybe he likes it? He's not sure, just yet.

"It grows on you, but it's also addictive," Tommy says with a shrug. "And you need to use the facilities more. And it can make you shaky if you drink too much but you haven't eaten. Lots of down sides."

He should try Link's, but he's worried about how it's going to hit him.

Link frowns faintly. "Addictive?"

He wasn't actually too familiar with addictive substances. Except...maybe alcohol? He does remember Pokki, and how she acted when she couldn't get any Noble Pursuits to drink...

"Exactly," he says. "If your body is used to caffeine then you get headaches if you haven't had it recently enough."

So to Tommy it's worth dealing with.

Link hums. He's not so sure he's keen on that - a headache at the worst time isn't great. Maybe 'coffee' will have to be something that he will have to make sure to have very, very rarely.

On another note - that stamina potion should be pretty cool by now. So Link reaches aorund to grab it, and hand it over to Tommy. Does he want to try it now?

Oh god. Tommy looks... nervous about it. Which is silly. It's his shade of green.

"It's not going to make me sick?"

"Maybe. You could be allergic to frogs."

With the way Link's face doesn't change as he says this, it's hard to tell if his making fun on Tommy here on not.

There is that. It's a point he hadn't even thought of, and it makes him laugh. That gives him confidence to try this that he hadn't had before. He grabs the container, throws it back in one swig, and...

"Oh fuck," he says with a laugh as he feels the energy flood through him. "New task dude, take these to the caves and see if it powers them up."
