WHAT: Link goes hunting, bothers Dustin, makes some dubious drinks and attempts to contact the Funfronds

i. Senseless animal murder aka Hunting [open]

Link's hunting more frequently these days. Mainly because he learned, much to his dismay, that without his korok-enchanted pack he doesn't have a good way to keep meat long-term. So rather than doing a lot of hunting at once, he needs to head out regularly for smaller kills that he can cook that day.

So he can frequently be found in the forests outside Temba - or Sh'ka, if he happens to be there instead - moving swiftly and silently, his compound bow at the ready.

Between the trees, he spots one of the small, dinosaur-like Gallies. Crouches down, and inches further. Before drawing his bow, aiming right for the creatures head, and letting the arrow go.


ii. You can never have too many shields [closed to Dustin]

Dustin had made Link promise not to tell anyone about the Workshop, or where it was. A promise he had absolutely taken seriously, and had kept.

What Dustin had not done, however, was make Link promise not to show up there whenever he felt like it.

The challenge, however, was getting in to the workshop. Dustin had evidently left a puzzle for Link, because he soon found that the door was locked and the windows boarded up. But there was this little square flap at the bottom of the back door. If Link takes of his Sword and bow and makeshift shield - and carefully lays them next to the flap - he might be able to squeeze through.

Which he, of course, immediately proceeds to attempt to do.


iii. Making The Frog Drink [closed to Tommy and Radley]

This wasn't Link's first time cooking at the diner. He'd become a bit of a regular, actually - though he was always happy to cook for everyone else around too, when he was there. Sometimes making unusually elaborate dishes using whatever new and interesting ingredients he'd managed to find.

Today, however, it was a bit different. Today, Link was experimenting.

Thanks to the Agriculture datapoint, he knew how to make something close to the elixirs he made back in Hyrule with local plants. But the datapoint didn't tell him anything about using animals, or insects. Which meant Link had to figure out what he could make by pure trial and error.

The end result of this was Link cooking up an increasingly odd series of concoctions, using things like butterflies, beetles, lizards, crabs, grasshoppers. And, of course, frogs.

Link had a good feeling about the frog. This one, he was sure, was going to do something.


iv. Are these the new Koroks? [closed to Funfronds]

Link had heard about the Funfronds from Dustin. Knew at least a little of what they were, from the Dictionary. But hearing about them was one thing - Link wanted to see them for himself.

And he was so very, very curious.

So, he's staked out the ruins near the greenhouse, late one evening. Thought a little about how he might indicate he was friendly to them. He ended up combing through the ruins, and leaving an apple or other piece of small fruit whenever he found a little nook or cranny. He didn't know if the Funfronds were anything like Koroks, but if they were - well, maybe they'd appreciate the gifts too? Course, Koroks also liked thinks like Link picking up rocks, and shooting balloons, and jumping into circles of lilies in the water...

...Maybe he'd try those later. If the apples didn't work. For now, though, he just sits in one corner in the ruins. And waits.



V. Wildcard!

"... So why didn't you have a recipe for that one like you did the others?!"

Radley starts to back away slowly. In case it does anything weird, or that might harm him, he doesn't want to be too close.

"Agriculture datapoint only knows plant recipes." And frogs were not plants, thus the need to experiment.

It's not the first time Link's cooked up something without knowing what will happen. And it won't be the last.

[crystalmaster]

"... So where did you come up with this idea? Is it completely random?"

Radley is now over by the doorway in case of the need to duck out.

Link shook his head. "Made these back home."

And they were useful, too. Sometimes, downing the right elixir had been the difference between success and failure.

[crystalmaster]

"... Oh. And you found all the same ingredients here?" Radley asked.

[newmemorywhodis]

Link shakes his head again. "No monster parts here," Link says. Because it just goes to show, no matter how bad you think the frog is as in ingredient - it could be worse. "The recipes are different."

Once again resulting in the need to experiment. Zelda would be so proud of him.

The froggy concoction was just about cool enough to try, too. Link had a good feeling about this one.

[crystalmaster]

"... Then this could do something different!" Radley exclaimed. How foolish. Radley wouldn't stop him, but he sure thought Link was crazy. Or overconfident in himself.

[newmemorywhodis]

"Maybe," Link agrees. But he appears completely and utterly unbothered by that fact as he picks up the elixir and chugs it down, all in one go.

[crystalmaster]

Radley just slaps his forehead and steps back farther into the doorway, tense for any unwelcome changes. "... Well?" he asks.

Link, meantime, is bouncing on his toes - up and down and up and down. Like he's full of a boundless, restless energy.

He knew he'd had a good feeling about this one!

"Stamina!" he says, with a flash of a grin before he runs around the kitchen in a quick, frantic circle. He could run for days!

Radley gets dizzy watching him. But ... well, okay, this isn't bad.... Hopefully.... "Cool," he says.

Link nods at Radley, with energetic enthusiasm, clearly taking his statement as a kind of agreement and approval.

"Can make you one!" he says, before darting back to the the stovetop, where he starts tossing together ingredients for another concoction. As he does so, he bounces up and town on his toes - clearly overflowing with energy even if he's not running in circles.

"Ah, thanks, but I'm getting tired just watching you," Radley chuckles.

Oh. Link almost deflates a little, at that. Almost, if only because he's still too hyped up to really come down.

"Maybe another one?" It'd be nice, to be able to give Radley something. Link likes having things for himself - but he likes giving things to other people too.

[crystalmaster]

"Sure," Radley says. "I could use that protection against electricity."

Link nods vigorously, and starts throwing together a slightly different set of ingredients.

Thankfully perhaps for Radley's sensibilities, the primary ingredient of this one isn't a frog. Instead, he's a bright yellow mushroom.

Radley is certainly happy about that. A mushroom amuses him a bit, thinking of Mario games.

"So, do you do this kind of thing back home too?" he asks.

Link nods. "They're useful."

Especially in the early days, when he was still weak from the Shrine. When he had to face enemies who strength dwarfed Link's own, or when he didn't yet have the right kind of armour to help him survive the elements.

[crystalmaster]

"Yeah, it sure looks like they would be," Radley muses.

[newmemorywhodis]

A little bit more stirring, a few more ingredients added - probably shouldn't look too closely at those, Radley - and soon, the elixir is ready. Or salve.

Link really should figure out new terminology.

"Ready!" he says, as he pours the concoction into a bottle, and holds it out to Radley. Oh right, he should probably make sure Radley knows how to use it, shouldn't it? "...Don't drink it," he says. "Goes on your skin."

"Thanks," Radley smiles. "I remember." Not having to drink it is another plus for sure. "How long does it last?"

Link shrugs. "About an hour?" He hasn't timed it.

He might be experimenting, but he's not a scientist. Scientific rigour is absolutely not being applied here.

[crystalmaster]

Radley nods. Probably not something for everyday use, then. He'll be careful how he uses it. "Well, thanks a lot again."

Link nods. As usual, his face doesn't show much - but there's just enough of an expression there to show that he's pleased.

And then he turns back to his cooking pot and ingredients, because hey - there's still more things to try out. Maybe he'll figure out a few more recipes.

Radley steps back. "What else are you going to make?"
