All shall fear the terrible mgoose
WHO: Link and Cayde (and anyone else who might decide to join Team Mgoose)
WHERE: Near the Station
WHAT: There is a goose. That is also a moose. It must die.
WHEN: Beginning of the Monster Event
WARNINGS: Violence
Well before sunrise, the night silence is broken by a long, loud, and mournful honk.
Link - who had been doing some night-time building climbing, because who needs a proper sleep schedule - takes note. Makes his way towards the ominous honking, where he finds that the source is a giant...bird? Deer? Bird-deer?
A flicker of light, and Link draws the Sword that Seals the Darkness - to find that it's glowing a bright, ethereal blue.
Right. Time to go fight...whatever this is, then.
He spends a little time watching it, first, from his position atop a nearby building. Seeing how it stomps around, how even the slightest movement from any poor night-time creatures unfortunate enough to be spotted by it provokes an immediate charge from the beast. It's gigantic webbed feet aggressively stomp at the ground, until whatever it saw was dead.
Links waits, until it passes nearby. Quietly, picks up a large, heavy brick from the top of the building that were a bit loose. And then drops them right on top of the monster bird-deer's head.
At it honks in terrible rage, Link leaps of the building. His sword drawn, he uses the momentum of the fall to stab down into the monster's back as he lands on top of it.

Thankfully Cayde keeps to his own schedule as well. Around here you never know what's going to happen, and technically Exos didn't need sleep, though the Hunter tended to do so more out of habit. A lot of habits cling to you even when you aren't human anymore, even after centuries.
A noise that loud just begs for investigation, and Link isn't the only one accustomed to scouting out from higher vantage points. Not that something that big is difficult to miss.
"What...the...hell."
He's seen some weird things around here but this is just on a different end of that spectrum. At the internal prompt from his Ghost, Cayde glances towards one of the other buildings where Link happens to be. Well, at least someone else is out. Taking initiative too. What a champ! Shaking his head, the Exo smirks as he pulls out his hand cannon.
"Well, stupid as that thing looks, can't let this guy have all the fun."
no subject
Link scrambles to hold on, but he's not able to keep a handhold. So along with his sword he tumbles, falling to the side. Thankfully at least, he manages to flip in mid-air and land deftly on his feet.
On the plus while, while Link no longer has prime stabbing position - Cayde now has a straight shot at the monster, without having to worry about hitting Link.
no subject
Several shots ring out even before Link hits the ground, one right after the other. That head's impossible to miss, but the creature seems to be much tougher than it looks. Well, that's fine by him. It would be boring if it went down too easily, right?
Cayde casts a brief look in Link's direction to make sure he's okay. If anything at least his shots will give the other guy a chance to recover and find a new angle of attack.
no subject
Until now, Link hadn't actually noticed Cayde nearby. But those shots are kind of hard to miss, so Link definitely notices him now. Though, with the way the monster is reacting, he can't really stop to pay all that much attention.
Because the terrible mgoose is furious. Furious at the small person who stabbed its back, furious at the other person shooting it from afar. But Link's the closest right now, so it honks furiously, and attempts to stomp him with its feet.
Link leaps back, dodging out of the way - and trying to strike back where he can with attacks of his own, slashing at it's feet.

Cayde ran along the edge of the roof, firing his last few shots before he reloaded, leaping across to the next building. He's not so sure how effective drawing the beast's attention will be when the most it seems intent on is trampling things. But clearly being on the ground is not ideal.
Maybe Link had the right idea.
In any case, the Exo heads around and waits for the right moment to leap for the thing's back. He leaps again in midair to gain more height, and once more to come at the thing's neck-
...which...isn't really the best place to find footing, let me tell you.
"-gah!" The Hunter slips, hastily grabbing onto feathers to latch onto the thing.
no subject
The mgoose honks, and flaps its wings and shakes its head in an attempt to shake Cayde off, just like it did with Link earlier.
Link, meanwhile, has concluded the same thing as Cayde: attempts to be shaken off aside, being on the beast is better than under it. He practically runs up the nearest wall, climbing up in a mad dash until he's got enough height to once again leap onto its back. He's further back than Cayde - clinging more to its butt than anything else. But he's on, and holding on tight.
So hey, now they're both here.
no subject
"Whoaohoh!!" the Exo yelps as he hangs on. This is rapidly becoming less fun than he'd anticipated, and losing his grip now would very well mean a sudden meeting with a wall somewhere, he's sure. He's not even sure which way is which, much less where Link is even is. Getting higher up is going to be a challenge, and for the moment all Cayde can do is try getting his feet in position to try koala-ing around the thing's neck so he won't be so badly flailed about.
no subject
So now Link is holding to its tail feathers for dear life, as the mgoose runs through the streets at full speed, its wings flapping furiously as it goes.
no subject
Cayde still however thinks this is an improvement to the flailing. Necks are a more solid grip than tail feathers. The Hunter starts to try climbing again. If he can make it to the thing's antlers he'll at least have something better to brace against. At least the creature's head is angled more downwards so he doesn't have to worry about gravity. Just all the wind.
"Huh?" he blinks as internally his Ghost informs him about the location of the other passenger aboard the Mgoose train. He glances back in time to catch a glimpse of Link as the poor guy hangs on.
no subject
Fortunately, the mgoose soon gives up on dislodging the pair via running them to death. Unfortunately, it decides to try and get rid of the one on its backside by twisting it's long neck around, and trying to gore Link with those antlers Cayde is trying to climb.
There's a milk yelp from Link, as he frantically attempts to dodge while still clinging on.
no subject
Definitely not the best progression of events. He scrambles when he finds himself able to, going so far as to even run along the rest of the creature's neck before slipping and getting his face mashed against the base of the nearest antler. The Exo grabs a hold, shaking his head before trying to plant his feet as he scoots along it.
At least moose antlers aren't that great for goring but given the size they'd still be unpleasant to get snagged by. Cayde braces himself against the branching end of it as the Mgoose makes another sweep for Link, leaning out as far as he can, thrusting out a hand.
"Grab on!"
no subject
"Thank you," he says then, before eying the other antler. Cayde's got this antler, and Link reckon's the base of the other one is the best place to be - so as soon as there's the right moment, he jumps down to it.
Now, he can wrap just one arm, and his legs, around the antler. And also draw the Sword that Seals the Darkness, angle it down, and stab it into the mgoose's head.
no subject
Once Link's moving to the other antler, the Exo straddles his legs between the crook of the other end's. Ride 'em cowboy! He pulls his gun out again, hauling it upwards as it and his whole body abruptly erupt in golden flames.
The Gunslinger takes aim at his side of the Mgoose's head, sending several fiery shots from his Golden Gun slamming into it.
no subject
With Cayde's bullets, and Link hacking away, the two of them are making nasty work of the creatures head. But it's not down for the count just yet - if anything, the combined attack has just made it madder.
Once again, it thrashes it's head from side to side. And in a new tactic, rams its head - and more importantly, the antlers the two are clinging onto - into the side of a nearby building.
no subject
"You're supposed to be cooked by now!" he yells, right before he's abruptly thrown against the crook of the antlers. Momentum works in his favor, at least in keeping him wedged against the thing rather than get thrown off, but it also is pretty dizzying and-
"-WALL!" the Exo blurts as he catches a glimpse of what's coming. He twists about and latches onto that antler as he braces for the blow.
no subject
Once, twice, three times. And more. The mgoose, it seems, is now determined to bash it's own head relentlessly against the wall if it'll get rid of its two attackers.
After the fifth time, his head ringing, Link decides that maybe staying on the mgoose actually isn't the best place to be at all. He lets go of the antlers, and drops to the ground.
His head's spinning, but he still looks up - is Cayde okay?
no subject
After about the third smash he starts to have second thoughts, but he's stubborn and locks his arms and legs around the antlers. Rubble dusts his hood and shoulders, the Exo lifting his head dazedly. Okay, not one of his better ideas but he is committed.
no subject
The least Link can do is help out - by charging at the mgoose's legs, and swinging his sword at them. "Hyah!", he yells, as he strikes with quick slashes of the blade.
This, at least, distracts the mgoose from its attempts to bash its own head in. Link's now made himself the new, obvious target. But at least this time, he's ready when the mgoose tries to stomp him again - and he swiftly backflips out of the way.
There's a moment, then, where time seems to slow for Link - and it gives him the opportunity to strike at the mgoose again, repeatedly, and impossibly fast.
no subject
Cayde was beginning to wonder if he'd run out of buildings for this thing to knock itself into before it actually knocked itself out. Not really a good thing and Reeve would probably get mad about that. Thankfully Link's got it to stop, so the Hunter can get his focus back together.
While the Mgoose is trying to Riverdance on Link, the Exo reloads his gun. He's all out of juice for his Golden Gun for the moment, but maybe those solar-charged blasts softened up a spot.
He flicks his wrist up to lock the barrel back into place before stretching his arm out as he takes aim. There's no way he can miss from where he is, at least, and as Link charges in to strike from below, Cayde fires away from above, sending all twelve shots at the Mgoose's head, the gun's muzzle wrapping in blue-tinged flames as it packs the last several shots with an extra fiery punch.
no subject
It stops. Sways, slowly, from side to side. And then with a slow, mournful honk, begins to slowly crash to the ground.
Link leaps back, out of the way - and hopes that Cayde is also able to get out of the way before he too falls with the beast.
no subject
Cayde holsters his Ace of Spades and turns, hanging onto the antlers as he tries to keep himself upright. As things angle towards the sky he makes his move, jumping up to push off against one branch to the next.
He's looking good until the end of those antlers hooks his foot mid-leap, and with a yelp his ascent is quickly reversed as he tumbles in the wake of the collapsing Mgoose.
no subject
"Are you okay?" he asks.
no subject
"Did we get it..?" he asks, swaying a little as he tries to shake himself out of it.
no subject
"Yes," he says, with a nod. He glances at the Sword in his other hand - it's blue glow finally fading as the mgoose dies. "It's dead."
no subject
"Woo! Nice work, kid. Hang on, one sec."
He fishes his tablet out of his belt pouch, moving to sling an arm around Link as he holds the thing up, trying to angle it to get the both of them in along with their freshly felled beasty. Yeah, he's totally taking a selfie.
Ussie?no subject
He leans in, grins, and points one finger up at the terrible monster that lies dead behind them. They did that!
no subject
That makes Cayde grin all the wider as he snaps a couple of shots.
"Haha! Those're keepers. Soooo..." He glances back at the heap of Mgoose. "Don't know what's the plan now with that thing but if it's clean-up duty um...not it!"
no subject
As he admires this gigantic feather - look how big it is! - he glances back at Cayde. "You don't want anything?"
no subject
Although Cayde hadn't really thought the guy would be diving right into things. He pauses, metal brows lifting.
Wow, that really is a huge feather.
"....actually I'll take one of those, sure." Never going to turn down the opportunity to decorate his bar.
no subject
Then he goes and yanks out a few more, before he eyes the antlers. They're pretty big. He's not even sure where he'd keep them. But...look at them. How can he not want them?
He he draws the Sword again, and starts unceremoniously trying to hack one of the antlers off.
no subject
He watches as Link starts hacking away at the antlers. That...could probably take a while.
"Hey, if you manage to get those things loose, send a piece or two my way? Maybe they'd make some nice knife handles."
no subject
Link pauses, halfway through the job. Not an easy one, but he was also trying to take the antlers as a whole - so really, he only had to cut them at the base.
"Okay," he says. Then, "...Who are you?"
Since you know. It would help to know who he's giving pieces to.
no subject
He grins as Link agrees to the request, but the question has him laugh.
"Got ahead of myself, huh? Guess I can't expect my reputation to precede me all the time." He smirks, holding out his free hand to shake. "Name's Cayde. I keep the bar back that way, the Deep End? If I'm not in you can always leave it there, just don't mess with my chicken."
no subject
"Link," he says, giving his own name as his eyes drift towards the direction of the bar. He hasn't actually been in there yet, but he knows where it is.
"Your...chicken?" he adds, as he goes back to hacking at the antler.
no subject
"Yep! Colonel. She hangs out there most of the time." Cayde tucks the ridiculously huge feather in his belt for a moment while he fiddles with his tablet to pull up a picture of his fine-feathered hen.
"Speaking of which, I needa go check on her. And the bar. Don't think these things have stomped too close to that side but can't hurt to check."
Whipping the feather off of his belt, he gives Link a salute with it before he goes- well, he almost trips over some rubble but he manages to keep on his feet as he goes bounding off.
What a weird Exo.
no subject
When Cayde heads off, though, Link's not bothered. Cayde doesn't seem weird to him at all. Link just offers a quick "Bye," and keeps on working on the antler.
