Noctis didn't use his replicator because he knew he was going to need it. He wanted to make sure that he took the time to appreciate the fact that his Shield was here still here with him. Unselfishly he wished the man would go back and stand by his own king. But Noctis was feeling a little bit selfish and was relieved every damn day that they were both still here.

So to that end, his replicator was able to conjure Prime Garula Rib, Carp of the Diem, and of course, the Shield's beloved cup of Ramen noodles. There was also a cake waiting as well.

Somehow he had recalled Gladio's favourite dishes of Iggy's and had them waiting for when Gladio got back to the house.

And waiting really was the hardest part.

Cup Noodles. Gladio grinned to see it. Hell, he's smiling at it all.

"Yeah. That sounds amazing, Noctis. You went to all this work for me?"

That was so shocking to see. And heartwarming too. He smiles and moves to sit down.

"Hey, sit with me."

"All for you." Noctis replied with a playful sort of bow. It was great and made him so happy to see Gladio so excited by all of this.

He stood back up and watched the shield go over to the food. Yup, same old Gladio even if there was a different timeline.

At the other's request, Noctis moved to sit for a minute, just enjoying this sort of thing that he wouldn't have gotten back in his world. This was the stuff to live for, to see others enjoy things.

"Maybe sometime we can get our hands on our Coleman gear and camp out under the stars."

Just like they used to do.

"That would be wonderful, but didn't you hate it?" Gladio asked. And yeah, he moved to pull the man closer to him. He doesn't intend to let Noctis to get too far from him today. "I seem to remember you were always begging for hotels."

Noctis shrugged. "Only when it doesn't seem to end." He could deal with the rest of it. He had to laugh as Gladio pulled him closer. "I was, only because Iggy kept us out in remote areas, or complained we wouldn't have enough gil to get by."

But since the advisor was so thrifty, that was why he had the purse strings.

Of course it didn't seem to end. It was one of the safer ways to keep a low profile. They were being hunted you know.

"Our gil was a bit tight," Gladio reminded him. "At first. After that it was the good food."

Noct nodded. Normally he went along with the whole camping thing (except when he would say 'camping just isn't going to cut it') but there were times low profiles just didn't work. There was the time that he wanted to attend the Assassin's Festival and did in cosplay.

Iggy even chided him on being a wanted man, but Gladio stuck up for him which quieted the advisor. That thought made him smile.

"Ya, we had Iggy cooking pretty good."

Of course he'd stuck up for Noctis. He got it, in ways that Ignis didn't sometimes. You needed to be more than your title.

"WE did," Gladio agreed. "Though sometimes the Crow's Nest was exactly what I needed."

Noctis had to smile. "That crow was creepy."

Even if it did provide quite the photo fodder for Prompto to tease the guys with at times.

Damn creepy, and Gladio nods in agreement. Which was so messed up. Mascots shouldn't be so creepy.

"Let's ignore Kenny's existence on my birthday.

Noctis laughed. "Right, let's eat and I'm sure we'll forget all about that damn thing."

Gladio was right, even the commercials were kinda creepy.

That makes Gladio smile, because yeah, he can be behind food.

"You going to sit by me?"

"Wouldn't think of sitting anywhere else."

So Noctis moved to get out of Gladio's way so that he could eat.

"After you."

Oh, don't worry, he's going to lay into this food like nothing else. It's so good and it reminds him of home.

"Thanks NOct."

Because he really is being spoiled here.

Noctis laughed and handed his Shield a plate.

"No worries."

He was more than happy to spoil Gladio when he could. It felt really nice to be able to give back after all that the other man had done for him, even if most of it was just his very presence.

Good. Plate in one hand and his other hand snaking around Noctis's waist to pull him closer.

"Thank you. For thinking of me. I know I spend a lot thinking about you. It never feels like enough."

The king felt that arm around his waist which caught him off guard and the gesture made him a little breathless. And Gladio's sweet words made him feel like the only man in the entire world and he had to smile.

"We'll see if you still think about me after all of this food."

Because if he did, well this certainly seemed the right time.

"Of course I will," Gladio promised with a smile.

Because Noctis was right, and Gladio was losing patience with his own patience and resolve. Perhaps he shouldn't have been so foolish. But the softness and warmth they have had has pleased him anyway.

"I'm gonna hold you to that." Noctis replied before giving the shield room to get all of the food he wanted to.

The king felt nervous but he was always trying to hide that. And so he tried to focus on food for now, because food could and would get cold.

Other things could sit at a nice simmer.

For now.

"I feel like i"m already holding you to it," Gladio counters. But he didn't want the guy to go away. Why are you going away?

"I miss the guys," he admits after a moment.

Noctis smiled. It was nice to hear that they were having the other give their word and not breaking it. It was comforting in a lot of ways to the king.

But he paused as he started getting some of that Crown roast onto his plate and looked up at Gladio. There was the softest smile in his eyes as he nodded briefly.

"Me too. Wish they were here, but they'd probably be surprised about us."

"I don't know. Ignis might just be relieved that you're not alone," Gladio points out with a soft smile. "Prompto would make a scene."

Noctis laughed slightly. "Ya, Iggy never seemed to think I could tie my own shoes half the time."

And the king always thought Ignis just loved being a nag most of the time.

Thinking about Prompto, he nodded.

"Now you make me glad for a second that he's not here."

That one would probably be going around doing the 'Noctis and Gladio sitting in a tree' song.

"If he thought that it would only be because you went around with your shoes untied for a week."

As for the other thing, he laughed happily as he worked through more of the food. He thought he might like that scene.

A small laugh escaped him, but he worked on eating.

However, Prompto.

The king shook his head. "He'd be attempting to spy on us at all hours and make comments." It might be endearing at first but it would grate on the king's nerves after about the tenth time.

"I'd have to lock him out," Gladio says with a smile. "Or we could hide out on our ship together."

Take it up and give them privacy for a few hours. That was something, right? He hoped it counted as such.

"You'd probably have to have some something for that mouth of his." This was said with a laugh in his tone and he shook his head.

Hiding away together sounded good to him, but Prompto would more than likely just rub that in later, were he here with them.

Fortunately he wasn't but Noct smiled anyhpow.

"You know, he might do it just because he'd be jealous of me getting you all to myself."

"Gags exist," Gladio says with a shrug. But no, Gladio was going to be greedy with this time they steal with each other.

Wait.

"Jealous? Why would he be jealous?"

Noctis just laughed a little until Gladio realized what had been said.

"I don't know, he'd be feeling pretty left out because Miss Cindy or Aranea wouldn't be here to keep him otherwise occupied."

Ah, there's that. Good. He didn't think that Prompto had been into him. That was a relief. He would hate to break the guy's heart.

"Oh the Cindy thing isn't going to happen. But Aranea..."

Well, that might.

Noctis shook his head with a smile. Even if Cindy wasn't married to her job, she might take up with that friend of hers, the one in Lestallum.

What was her name? Oh right, Holly.

That had the king look at Gladio, with surprise in his voice. "You really think Aranea would give Prompto the time of day?"

Or night.

Yes, she absolutely had. But Gladio wasn't outing her to even the King.

"I think she would," Gladio says as he finishes his plate. "And I think I'm about done talking about Prompto's lack of love life."

Noctis laughed a little. "Ya, I just selfishly wish I could see them from time to time." Because when he went back he wasn't seeing any of his friends except Luna, his dad, Cor and all of them.

But he tried not to think about all of that when he had Gladio here.

Yeah, Gladio too. And he hates that he feels selfish for it. So instead he stands and offers Noctis his hand.

"Maybe I can take that from your mind right now."
