[Enjoy a video shot of Gladio as he's entering one of the ships, in full uniform, and with a stuffed pack over his shoulder. That will be the visual as Gladio walks through the ship to the cockpit. It is interesting to look at, though, given the beautiful wood-like paneling of the Starkduck.]

Hey. Just got back, more or less, from a train trip to Sh'Ka. Saw the weirdest shit there. There were these huge creatures, look a bit like Garulas from back home. Reason I'm mentioning it is because I haven't seen anything like them in Sh'Ka before.

Anyway, they look smaller, easier to take down than the Bunnyboars. And we need to restock the meat supplies, get all curing and drying and all that. And steaks. So, I'm going to take and pick out some of the herd. Definitely going hunting, but if they seem placid enough, maybe I'm going to try and bring some back too.

Could use some help. Anyone up for some wrangling like some proper Chocobros, help me herd some onto the Starduck to bring them in for easier handling, let me know. I'm going to be setting up the hold here for my aims for a few hours, so if you make it to the Starduck in the next two hours and you're equipped for a hunt and herding, you're welcome to join.

"I guess you do," Gladio said right back with a smile before lowering his legs and turning his seat. HE crooks a finger at Noctis, beckoning him over.

"WE should save seats for other people if they want them."

That had Noctis look at Gladio for a moment. "So you're going to attempt to fly this thing with me on your lap?" He's both amused and nervous.

Gladio was just teasing or something. He had to be.

"Should be pretty easy," Gladio said with a grin. Oh yes, he's planning on this. Mostly because he'd set up an auto-pilot. He could do it and fake proper flying.

The king had no idea what his Shield was up to, but he saw that grin. And Noctis had no idea what to do except try to awkwardly sit on the man's leg. It was so weird to be doing this.

"How is this flying if you're not.." His voice cut off because he wasn't sure how to put this without trying to insinuate something.

"Called auto-pilot," Gladio confessed as he wrapped his arms around Noctis. "I call it 'Ignis Mode'."

Which was probably not as funny as he wanted it to be.

"You're naming it after Iggy." Noctis echoed softly, trying to comprehend that along with how warm and safe he felt in Gladio's arms.

He felt nervous and tried to sigh and relax. "You didn't tell me you were interested in having me on your lap during flight. That's a nice surprise."

"Of course," Gladio said with a chuckle. "Got a better idea for it?"

Clearly Noctis needs to calm down, and Gladio does his best to help, one of his hands freeing itself to rub what he hopes is a soothing pattern up and down Noctis's leg.

"I like you close, Noctis. More every day."

"Not really." Noctis replied with a shake of his head.

He hadn't been a fan of the airships any time that Ardyn had escorted them around. And it was worse when he had to warp to blow them up, but having Gladio here was a comfort, as was that rubbing thing the Captain was doing.

Hearing the words his Shield spoke, Noctis smiled. "Speaking of more, what are we doing for your birthday this year?"

The king thought a moment. "You've been here with me a little over a year now, right?"

These ships had a bit of an advantage over the Imperial airships too, in that it's comfortable and not just a simple troop carrier. Quite interesting, right? Beds and food and laundry services and showers. So much better than just a hold.

"My birthday?" Gladio says, actually a bit shocked. He'd forgotten about it completely. "Guess I sorta got out of the habit of celebrating them. And yeah, I have. Year and a season."

Together, with Noctis. Fuck he'd missed his King.

"Then we'll do something for it." Which meant he'd have to save his replicator but that was easily enough done due to the hunting and fishing that he did. His Agriculture specialization came in handy there too, which was why he elected to take it.

Dead back home but alive here and that meant the joy of food wasn't gone.

So he smiled at his shield. "Seems like a long time, but I'm glad you're here."

Words he couldn't ever say as a younger man.

"A very long time. More hours in a day, but there's actually day."

And that somehow made the time pass faster. He smiles and wraps his arms more tightly around his king and boyfriend.

"I've been blessed to be here."

"Ya, sure is." That long night was definitely a butterfly in a crystalline cocoon experience and it was irritating as he'd realized how much time had passed when he came out the other side of things.

For a brief moment as he settled into the hug, Noct closed his eyes and smiled as he heard Gladio's words.

Opening his eyes back up, he hesitated. "Glad to hear that you feel that way."

"Glad to give you the words to hear."

Then he chuckles and shakes his head.

"I feel like I'm in one of those romance novels."

he'd read quite a few during the night, given it was harder to get his hands on books when he wanted to.

He was searching for more words when Gladio made him unexpectedly laugh. "Romance novels? Do you actually read those?" There was absolute zero judgement in the king's question. But if the man actually did poke his nose into those, had he done so on the journey?

It was an interesting notion.

"Why wouldn't I?" Gladio asked with a shrug. "Picked up some on Eorzea. I was down for just about any book I could get my hands on. Missed reading."

He smirked. "I didn't think you were that into it. But I guess with how much and how easily you could flirt back home, I just didn't really think about it."
