[Event Mingle] Great Full Day!

At last it is here, the day An Nu and Ga Re told you about has arrived. While the last few days may have been a bit of a trial with the whole replicator going a bit wonky thing, but that’s no reason not to celebrate, right? Right! Good thing too, because the Whale Comb Sent Her is absolutely awash with what must be seasonal good cheer. The whole outside of the building is wrapped in vines, though thankfully this time they seem to be made primarily of a thick sort of cloth, and the fall colors to them are also painted on. There’s no doubt that the decorations come from your friendly Agrii either, because apparently they feel that pink and purple are also very valid color choices for fall foliage, so enjoy those splashes of color too.

Inside the decorations continue, the fabric vines ringing the room at a height that would clearly be natural for the Agrii. Amid them are painted cloth banners announcing things like WHALE COMB and EAT MUCH and GREAT FULL and of course the ever present THANK YOU. Around all of these are cloth and paper pictures that wouldn’t look out of place in an elementary school classroom around Thanksgiving. You’ve got your handprint animals, foam shape plants, and vividly painted pictures of tables full of food with Agrii around it as a group. And sometimes in those last ones there are little drawings that… wait, He Row, is that you? Well, they did say you were celebrating together, so maybe that’s what they meant.

But of course people didn’t just come here for the wonderful decorations. You’re here for the food, for the feast, for the togetherness. Good news is that the Agrii have you covered on that as well. A series of tables have been set up in the Sent Her, much like when He Rows first arrived on Agra-10. Along one wall is a long series of tables covered with pink and purple cloths, and over the majority of these are the foods the Agrii have sent down. There are platters of hamburgers (which taste like peanut butter), and plates of peanut butter sandwiches (which also taste like peanut butter). There are pies that look like they’re apple and taste like iced tea. There are more ‘traditional’ things too, which are things like green bean casseroles, vegetable lasagnas, and even some seventeen layer dip to go with all of the chips. There’s apparently no meat though. Not from the Agrii at least.

The even better news is that this isn’t all there is. A whole two tables of space have been left open for the He Rows to bring their own food offerings, or the results of their replicator experiences. The Agrii have been kind enough to leave out plenty of extra plates and serving utensils as well, so no one should worry about there not being enough. And hopefully what your fellows have brought is very tasty. Or came out in a reasonable size or volume from the replicator.

Then there are the tables laid out in the middle of the room. They are round things with only a few seats at each, and there are name tags? Apparently the Agrii thought they might help you get to know each other this Great Full with random seating. Hope your table mate is fun. At each space there is also a little cloth baggie of… oh wow, is that candy? Yes it is! Those sweets are going to be a great reward for after dinner. Or during it. And surely there’s nothing strange that comes from eating them at all.

Finally, there’s even something for those whose entertainment isn’t to be found in eating. The Agrii have been studying their He Rows for a while now, and they know what you need. One side of the room is dedicated to other forms of entertainment. There’s a big poster drawn of what looks to be a glownie, but lacking a tail. Ah but don’t worry, there are tails made of cloth in a bowl nearby for He Rows to restore to the paper glownie. Don’t worry about injury to the paper glownie, it’s all done with magnets! For those who aren’t about tail pinning there are other fun things to be done. There’s a karaoke machine in the corner, clearly the Agrii remember how much fun that was. Wait… Is that the exact one that He Row Billy loaned to the Deep End? Apparently so. And last but far from least is the most important of celebration games: a booth with a stack of personal peanut butter pies and a sign saying ‘Eat Fast Count Is!’ Which probably means eating contests for those brave enough to face that much peanut butter.

FAQ

Do we need to make our own logs for this?
No. You’re welcome to use this post to make Top Levels for this mingle. Get out there and enjoy your celebration together.

We’re not obligated to that randomized seating are we?
Nope! We just felt it could be a handy way to explain mingling with other He Rows you might not normally talk to.

What if our character would bring food?
Our best suggestion is to note that in your TLs. Who knows, maybe your creativity with cooking or the silliness of your offering (or the results of a poor replicator situation) could be fun for others to enjoy.

Can we still use the replicator here and now?
Absolutely. If that sort of chaos is what you want to have fun with, then have at it. Besides people here can probably help you eat your way through any food you get.

That candy seems sorta suspicious. What’s up with that?
Great question. Each baggie will have a random assortment of little gummy candies that are shaped like Agrii heads, complete with three eyes, smile, and little teeth. Each one even has their own unique flavor. And their own unique side effects.

Yellow - Maple Flavored - Makes eater more energetic and friendly
Green - Sour Apple Flavored - Makes eater feels mischievous and is more likely to play pranks and tell jokes
Blue - Dark Lager Flavored - Makes eater tell the truth for half an hour (is not actually alcoholic
Purple - Chocolate Flavored - Makes eater very affectionate or romantically inclined
Red - Cinnamon Flavored - Makes eater easily angered or quick to challenge other people

"All partied out already, chief?"

For someone made of metal, he sure could be a ghost sometimes for how quiet he was. Must be the Hunter part of him. One got real good at sneaking even when they weren't meaning to. The Exo dropped down from the roof, giving like it was a normal thing, but then for Cayde, it could be, more or less.

He cast a glance towards the doorway and the hum of conversation from inside before moseying over to the wall to take up a position against beside Tony. Holding a hand up, he gave his thumb and forefinger a rub and a flick before offering a tiny but bright, golden flame that licked across the tip of his leather-covered finger without seeming to burn.

The voice from above almost startled Tony enough to drop the cigarette entirely, leaving him shooting Cayde a very familiar glare with a hand to his suffering heart. Each time Cayde snuck up on him brought them closer to the inevitable heart attack. Tonight, Tony survived, at least long enough to accept his consolation, still watching that strange flame like he could figure it out as he doused it in a stream of smoke.

"We've been waiting for you to get it started, Hot Stuff," he finally answered as he bumped Cayde's shoulder to show his appreciation. "What're you doing up there? Food's inside. Can't believe you'd miss that. Feast of the year."

He did at least look apologetic for the scare. Tony often proved to be jumpy, so he wasn't sure whether to blame Tony or himself as he'd have figured either of them would've picked up on these sorts of behaviors by now.

"What, peanut butter with a side of peanut butter?" Cayde grinned, tucking his hands in as he folded his arms. "Figure I'll let the ones who're new to Agrii cuisine have their fill." He shrugged. "You know, sometimes you feel like rubbing elbows with people and other times you just like listening to the chatter and just knowing they're there."

The peanut butter got a smirk out of Tony, and he looked about ready to mount a defence for the culinary offerings inside, only for his expression to fall with a pained grimace. Luckily, that was what the cigarette was for, and he could try to look very focused instead. They weren't all there.

"You haven't been doing a lot of rubbing elbows at all," he managed to drag out of himself, pulling up out of that cold well to raise his eyebrows at Cayde. "Word around town is, you've been lighting up the skyline and not even inviting anybody to help you put your pants back on."

Cayde caught the look and let his own gaze skitter away. That hadn't really been the intention there, but he couldn't really take back the words. And maybe that was it, the distinctness of the new without proper acknowledgment of the changeout of the old guard. People came and went without a hello or good-bye, but it didn't mean that the good-byes weren't missed.

Still, it was Cayde, and bouncing back into jocularity was by now simply reflex and not at all too different from Tony's own deflection.

"I'll make my rounds eventually," he said before grinning again. "The attention's supposed to be on the food after all, I'd just distract people." Said grin turned crooked before he rolled his eyes and gave a shake of his head. "If I could have actually directed all that into something more useful than an hourly spectacle then maybe I would've considered putting out formal invitations."

"Hmm, wouldn't want that," Tony purred as Cayde rolled his eyes, his own gaze innocently averted like that had any chance at offsetting his smirk as he bumped Cayde's shoulder again, looking ready to drag the Exo into the cozy dinner and find out what kind of a scene they could make with the karaoke machine this time. Maybe they could get somebody punched. A big distraction would have to wait, though, as Tony's smirk was rapidly gone again, this time for him to look contemplative with a brief frown of concern at Cayde.

"You can, though, right?" he prompted. "Direct it." Something useful was probably a better use of their time. They really hadn't had a lot of respect for how little of it they had.

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2022-11-11 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh he was always up for getting someone else embarrassed, meeting that smirk with a grin and a slight elbow back. His face plates shift as he gives something of a squint then, his optics turning out towards the sky as though looking for something.

"Normally, yeah. But not with as much firepower. I did try though, the first time all that happened, but I guess hoping to hit that big moon in the face was wishful thinking. Part of me wonders if it's actually there or just like...a projection or something. They couldn't see it in Sh'Ka, you know?"

[personal profile] in_extremis 2022-11-11 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Tony didn't know that, and his eyes widened briefly with surprise, then to ask what the hell that could mean. A projection did make sense, if it was so localized. His gaze slid away again, eyes unfocused as he tried to formulate something he could actually express that wasn't a schematic, and came up with, "What we have to be doing is screaming back." They'd been under siege this whole time, and their only attempts at firing back hadn't been powerful enough. "What do you think did it, the extra firepower? It's got to be something we can take the throttle off of."
deal_me_in: (OR we could shoot it)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2022-11-12 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not much for screaming but I am all for retaliation," Cayde quipped, metal brow waggling, well, as best as a metal brow can. He shook his head then.

"The screaming pretty much is taking off the throttle. That's the whole problem. Normally I focus it, funnel it as shots through my gun," he says, bringing his hand up, fingers out to demonstrate. "Pkew!"

[personal profile] in_extremis 2022-11-12 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That was the point Tony was trying to make, that it was Cayde's power so he should have been able to do it without the moon triggering it. Tony tapped at his chin thoughtfully, but the basics should have been the same as any other weapon--more energy, and more focus, bigger blast. It couldn't have been difficult.

"Okay," he declared, as though he had already solved that problem, onto the next. "What do we focus on?" With an impatient flap of his hand before Cayde even had the chance to answer, he continued, "Something big, before they can take anyone else away."
deal_me_in: (So everything is gone)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2022-11-12 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Cayde opened and closed his mouth as Tony pressed on, and he had to backtrack a little to grab at the right thread they'd been tugging earlier. "It'd be ideal if it was something they used, but they don't make that very obvious. Big though, big is sure to get anyone's attention."

He fingered his jaw in thought.

[personal profile] in_extremis 2022-11-12 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Things they used seemed to be very limited. The Calibrations bunker, which was already out. That tower, which they seemed to have abandoned, or upgraded for better security out in the middle of nowhere. "The ships?" Tony suggested, not looking terribly convinced. That might be too much like self-sabotage, if the ships ended up being their quickest way off the planet. "Everything that actually functions, without our input, I don't know where that's hiding. Like--over in the other city, it's way more obvious, there's those screens, and the bots. There's got to be something like that, doing those processes over here. Or does it matter? Do they still care about that stuff? They cared enough to hide it."
deal_me_in: (We were in a meeting about something)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2022-11-12 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Unfortunately the stuff that actually functions has its uses most of the time so we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot with anything here..." Not that he seemed willing to completely dismiss that idea completely. "There was that weird room in the mines that the Agrii were pointing us out to, it was kinda hidden, right? And have we really had a good look at all the places and available equipment here?"

He folded his arms again, drumming fingers restlessly. "The other city's definitely the least used. It also has more functional things. Weirdly functional considering all it took to get some things working was a powerline overhaul."

[personal profile] in_extremis 2022-11-12 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not nearly," Tony admitted, frowning at the enormity of the task. They'd carved out placed to survive in the city, but they hardly knew anything about it yet, even before accounting for what was being deliberately hidden. "We don't have time for that," he complained. It seemed to him then that this problem was recursive; they needed a magnet to find this needle in the haystack, and the needle was their magnet.
deal_me_in: (I did a lot of shooting that day)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2022-11-12 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"More like we've wasted enough time," Cayde sighed, making a face. "So we try drawing 'em out, get a response? I'm sure making a missile to take out that new light they got out there would do it but I'm sure if we could've made something like that we'd be better off making our own ship." That was probably a leap but his point was there.

[personal profile] in_extremis 2022-11-12 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
With a deep breath, and a brief shake of his head at the ship proposal--a very blue-sky plan when even the replicator was spitting out gag gifts--Tony did his best to regroup, and put a hand out flat to lay out what they already had to work with. "The stuff is more obvious, over there, in the other city. We go check it out, we get a better sense of what we're looking for, and we find out if it can even be altered."
deal_me_in: (That's good right?)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2022-11-13 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Cayde brightened at that. "Scouting missions are definitely better when we've got something in mind to look for. Otherwise it's just sight-seeing." He knew that very well, because that was about all he really did over there the handful of times he'd gone...aside from bother the Soldier.

"Anyway, I'm game."

[personal profile] in_extremis 2022-11-13 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It would be generous to call the agreement a 'plan'. Tony still nodded, satisfied enough with a direction that some of the gnawing frustration in his chest eased. Not the dread for Catra's fate, or that he might wake up in the morning before they could even go to find that Cayde had gone, too, back on the deadly path that Ikora had admitted to Tony, but maybe some of the guilt over his inertia. He slipped his arm around Cayde's, flicking the cigarette away to lock his hands together decisively with a smile full of innocent promise at his equally innocent friend. "Should we go take some requests, Hot Stuff?" he suggested. If he did wake up to that colder morning, he could at least make sure Cayde finally belted out some Donna Summer for him.
deal_me_in: (I got this!)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2022-11-13 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It was too easy to think about all the ones who had gone missing, and that was a weight that they couldn't do anything about, which made it harder to accept. So Cayde preferred to hurl himself recklessly forward. If someone out there wasn't wanting them to enjoy themselves, he was going to joyfully shove it in their faces.

As Tony linked his arm around his, the Exo blinked, then grinned at the prompt. "Think we've kept them waiting long enough. We'll show 'em the party's just starting."
