[Open] A Woman At Work

WHO: Lark, Open
WHERE: Ul'Dah - Weaver's Guild and Markets
WHAT: Working as a weaver, looking for escort into the wilds
WHEN: During Eorzea event.
WARNINGS: None
NOTES: Unless otherwise noted, Lark will be wearing This

I - A Good Loom Does All | Ul'Dah Weaver's Guild | [Open]
The words were there on the paper, and Lark could not resist. Where there was a guild, there were people selling tools to the guild. Every morning she rose quickly and dressed herself. And then it was off into Ul'Dah.

The guild had everything she needed. It took little effort at all to prove herself suited to the crafting, and to be given the tools for starting the trade. The woman could not have been happier.

Which was why she was there now, sitting in one of the front rooms of the guild house, humming to herself as she took an afternoon break in her weaving to sip at her tea and enjoy a light lunch. Though when she looked up and saw one of her He Row compatriots, she looked very shocked.

"Good day," she said. "Have you come to learn? They are quite lovely here at teaching."

II - Market Day | Ul'Dah Markets | [Open]
Truly this was a lovely city, unlike anything she had known before. Yes, she had known many cities back home, but never one in a place like this. And never so loud of one. But, well, it made her feel a bit like home. More than Temba, more than the illusion created by young William, this felt like home. Perhaps it wasn't the blessed wonder of the Circle, but it was familiar.

Perhaps that was why Lark had adapted so quickly. To the clothing she had found herself in, to the working with the guild, and of course, to this. The bustling of the market. Lark moved happily through it, smiling to everyone she met, talking with merchants and discussing sales of the cloth she carried with her and purchasing of other supplies she would later take back to the ship.

Mostly, though, she looked happy as she tucked a stray hair back under the edge of her cap and she stopped by a vendor selling little cakes of dye.

"Oh what vivid colors!"

III - Questing Along | Ul'Dah Outskirts | [Open]
Raw materials were, at the end of the day, what any weaver or spinner needed. And those materials, Lark had been told, were in some cases to be found out in the wilds. There were plants that needed harvested, creatures that needed defeated, and things to be gathered. Only one problem.

Lark stood just outside of the gates, sighing to herself. Her basket at her side was what she was supposed to fill, and she wasn't certain how to go about it. It wasn't like her magic was suitable to combat, unlike that of some of the children, or perhaps Niko. No, this wasn't something Lark could do herself.

"Which leaves the question as to what I should do..."

Celty felt a bit of tension ease from her at the confirmation, or at least what she assumed was confirmation. Lark hadn't told her no, and the smile suggested enough.

Combat... She could see how that would be inconvenient for someone who had to venture out beyond the city. The creatures of this world seemed more hostile than the ones she'd seen around Temba. Then again, she did remember the particularly nasty beast that had probably meant to make a meal out of one of their number. Celty considered for a moment before putting pencil to paper again.

Lark might have seen it. Celty rode around quite often, just to get to know the streets and areas of the city better. She tapped the pencil against the paper pensively before drawing a crude rendition of her beloved vehicle. At least the two wheels were identifiable enough.

She hoped so, anyway. Only mildly embarrassed at her drawing, Celty let the subject shift. There was no helping it if Shooter wasn't even here in the first place. She wondered if she'd have been able to bring him if she'd only remembered how or if she could summon him back after sending him away.

Lark began to describe what she was meaning to find on this outing, and Celty nodded thoughtfully as they started to go along.

The woman nodded. It seemed there was a lot to discover here either way. She didn't think it necessary to write out her next response as she simply gestured. They wouldn't find anything out standing here, and they didn't want to waste time.

Who knew what lurked once things got dark?

To be honest, even Celty had never really heard of such a thing. She had very little experience with wildlife, although she had a feeling that even in the olden days that she couldn't remember well enough for details, creatures had likely steered clear of her due to her nature.

Hopefully Lark wouldn't be concerned when she noticed Celty herself didn't seem to be carrying any weapons. She wouldn't have known how to use them anyway. That hardly meant she was unarmed.

It was a hope that while she may have felt similarly on, she felt better to be prepared. Expecting trouble seemed about the best she could do for the moment.

Celty nodded. At least Lark had useful things. She'd rather hope the woman wouldn't have to make use of them at all. How far out would they have to go?
tsundullahan: (hmm)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-08-02 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
With no real say in whether Lark may be mistaken or not, Celty could only trust that the woman knew where whatever she was looking for would be. Which was still more than Celty herself knew.

The way did look more used, so she took that as a good sign. She had to wonder why they had to go after what she was assuming to be wild creatures for the material Lark was seeking. Did people not farm and raise animals to that purpose here? Such a strange place.

Bats... This was turning into a very unusual venture. Well, Celty supposed it was doable. Her shadows could contain them granted they came upon any. She nodded.

π»π‘œπ‘€ π‘™π‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘”π‘’ π‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘’ 𝑀𝑒 π‘‘π‘Žπ‘™π‘˜π‘–π‘›π‘” π‘Žπ‘π‘œπ‘’π‘‘? she felt she should ask, penning out the question and holding it out to Lark.
tsundullahan: (migraine but no head wut)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-08-03 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
That...did not sound very helpful nor promising at all. Her shoulders rose slightly in a cringe before relaxing at the assurance that they were hardly aggressive. Or at least from Lark's experience, but Celty didn't know any better to disagree.

Either way, I guess we'll see... she thought. Surely they couldn't be that big.
tsundullahan: (.suspiciously specific denial)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-08-05 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Celty jerked her own 'head' up at that. At first she wasn't sure what she was looking at. Something big that could fly. That was troubling enough. Although perhaps not that bad considering she could have imagined much worse. Human-sized bats. That would be terrifying.

It did not seem like an appropriate time to be writing anything so she had to settle for gestures instead, pointing at the thing as she glanced at Lark. Is that..?

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-08-06 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Distract... Celty looked curiously at Lark, wondering what she meant to do- bind? She could probably handle that all, but at least Lark's materials would last longer- or at least raise less questions.

Still, catching was something Celty knew she could do. Either way, they'd have to get it close, and she wasn't sure if the thing was dangerous beyond just being as big as it was, and she wasn't going to endanger Lark trying to find out. Moving outwards a little to keep some distance between them, the dullahan picked up a rock, watching the bat before she hurled it at the creature.

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-08-08 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Celty did not normally go around starting fights. She ended up caught up in them because of jobs gone wrong. The rock at least served to catch the bat's attention. There's something considerably frightening about a creature that big coming for you. Its veering off course did not quite help as it looped around towards her again, and Celty cast a brief look at the falling net before she threw out her hand towards the incoming bat.

Shadows swirled and snaked towards and around the creature, but unlike the threads Lark had thrown, these continued to move after the bat as it tried to flit aside. Celty closed her hand around the shadows and gave it a yank to the ground as they trapped the bat.
