Somewhat Secret Origins

Arrival

Going straight from sailing at high speeds on fog-covered seas to abruptly not will cause issues with momentum shift. Even more so when you're as, shall we say, top-heavy with rigging and vast tracts of land as Reno. There's a very surprised "Whoop" before she tumbles forward and plants face-first into the dirt, with all her arms and legs splayed out and flailing. Another moment and she's already pushing herself back up to her knees with a very harried "I'm alright! I can do this all day!" Indeed, she's perfectly fine aside from dirt and dust now distressing her uniform and nylons and embarrassment distressing her smile.

Just where did that ground come from though. The Eagle Union coastline was in the other direction, aaaaand... as her soft violet eyes widen even further, its quite apparent this is not the Eagle Union. "What... Where am I?"

Before anyone could respond, her eyes lock onto the data point. It didn't take any summoning at all, she's already up to her feet and dashing straight towards it. "Shiny technology," the shipgirl concludes out loud. "Yeah, this should tell me-"

Alright, maybe she shouldn't have been so loud about her intentions. The data dump sends her staggering back and landing flat on her rear, and she's flat there boggling for a good moment for anyone watching. Now might be a good time to get a word in!

[The screen whirls around in a dramamine-inducing blur with unintelligible Reno sounds before settling down on the face of the now quite inquisitive kansen.]

Wooow, someone left their touchpad here!

Said girl looks up. And up some more. And even some more. There's visible awe in her gaze, jaw unhinging as she emits a rather stunned, "W-Woooow!" Something within Reno's head urges her to scramble to her feet and snap to attention, an impressive pose even for her stature and youth. "I-I'm fine, really! I'm Reno, reporting- uh-" Another thought, and she snaps out from her routine. "I'm Reno from the Eagle Union! Its a pleasure!"

No. It's kind of like a lottery. I'm not really sure how it works.

Supposedly everyone who's brought here has been deemed a "hero" by the Agrii. I'm not sure what their criteria is in that.

Be it for his blue skin, red-on-red eyes, or his height, he's used to a similar reaction from most humans. His facial expression is still calmly neutral too.

"Is 'Eagle Union' your home planet or is it a sort of family name?"

Yeah her world was definitely not his. A section of the military called Azur Lane? Interesting. Or maybe weird. Both. Both is good. He scowls deeper as she mentions aliens. Did everyone except for him have alien invasions? What the fuck? He rubs his forehead like he's got a headache or something, when he's simply emulating movements he had seen his dad do.

"You'd be surprised at what politics can involve. But if you're just taking orders, I guess it's easier to just do as your told instead of looking at what your higher ups are talking about." Which wasn't ideal, but York understood how some of the world worked. How many of those soldiers in Jericho had just been following orders? Too many in the android's opinion, and he had done his best to incapacitate as many as he could to save the others.

Not that it mattered since his home had been blown up anyways.

"Great, a military girl with an armory attached to her that's got more energy than an Irish trashcan drink. I guess you need all that energy to deal with aliens though. My world is starting to seem mundane compared to everyone else's. Fucking hell, didn't think I'd say shit like that."

"A hero?" That takes Reno aback a moment, "They think I'm- I'm a hero?" Her cheeks start to flush at that, "B-But I never was the hero, just the sidekick! Why would they think I'm the hero?" There's the tiny start of a sparkle to her eye, "Do they really think I am?"

Well that was not quite what she expected, but then again this obviously stoic officer must obviously be an alien! "Its a nation," Reno answers, still finding herself oddly at attention. "My home planet is called Earth, and I guess you could say my family name is the Atlanta class. They're all my sisters. I'd guess you're not from Earth?"

Putting it that way does make it sound dismal, and Reno shakes her head. "I guess, yeah, it is a lot easier but we are kinda also fighting for our lives." Then comes a tiny grin, "And if you think this is an armory, you should see the battleships. North Carolina has turrets big enough I could sit on!" And given her mammary size, she needs rather larger chairs.

And with those last words, however, its her turn to cast a tilt to her head. "What's your world like? It can't be that boring if it has androids! Robots make everything more awesome!"

Perhaps they have hopes that you are. There are good people here, so I don't think that they've been entirely off. ...but there are some who aren't as they'd seemed. Recently there was trouble. I wish I didn't have to say it, but I do have to warn you to be careful with who you trust.

The girl nods softly to her camera, "I see. Danger might lurk behind the corner." The thought does occur to her that, as much as she trusted her fleetmates, they had once upon a time trusted the Crimson Axis navies as well. And everyone back home knew how that turned out. She'll just have to be extra careful. "I guess if the Agrians think highly of me, I'll make sure their trust isn't misplaced!"

[Well, this girl was very positive, at least. Celty supposes it's the best way to look at the situation. At least Reno doesn't seem to have any qualms about aliens. They must not have watched the same movies.]

Don't be afraid to ask for help too, of course. We're all in the same position, and admittedly our resources are few.

To be fair, Reno has a rather stilted worldview composed of memories from The Good War and overdosing on superhero cinema. Aliens can be bad, but the Agrii seemed so far more of the 'Please help us, Hero Guy' type.

"Few?" She scratches her head again as her lips thin, "I guess its more like Sakaar, and if there's no supplies..." A toss of her silver hair, and a flash of her can do smile, "It'll be alright! Being a sidekick means being ready for anything, its nothing I can't handle!"

I have to admire your optimism. I do have to warn you, it's difficult to be ready for some of the things that have happened here, and the storms while they don't seem to be frequent, do happen without warning.

The idea of 'stoic' is still more gregarious than Thrawn is. We're talking calm to an almost eerie extreme. She's also not that far off either since he still has the 'flag officer' stance and behavior he's had most of his life.

"No, I'm not. I did not hear that planet's name until I was here either."

Well, the first time anyway.

"From what I have gathered it's not the same galaxy."

"Yeah, don't want to see an armory. I saw enough when others like me where shot dead for not complying when they were order to go in for reprogramming." There's bit to his words, a glare from his eyes.

He shoves his hands his in pockets, looking away from her. "Oh no, it's not boring. Just a revolution happening between humans and androids because the humans don't like it when we started becoming sentient and demanding to be treated as such. There are some humans that have experimented on other androids, some just get outright beaten, our safehouse home was exploded, but yeah. Totally awesome."

Well, York did finally find a way to wipe off that smile. The girl's contorts in ever increasing horror as he describes his world, and her gloved hands collapse onto her cheeks with a gasp. "That's- That's horrible! I'm sorry, I didn't even know!"

Great way to make a first impression, Reno. Where's Captain America to teach her a valuable life lesson when she needs him? "... If its anything, I'd never treat you like that. You're plenty sentient to me."

"You're really far from home," she notes quietly. The girl does find it rather odd that she's still at attention, "Are you with the military as well? You really remind me of some of the officers back at dock. Just... quieter."

"Storms? You mean..." She tilts her camera over to wave at the data node. "Like the ones in the memories?" That gets a rather anxious moment from Reno before she shakes that off, "I'll- I'm going to need to learn how to survive them." That she readily admits it, this kansen may be overly energetic but she does appear to be firing on more than one braincell.

Yes, those. They aren't anything like I would have expected. Or at least the most recent one wasn't anything like what you would call a storm at all.

It was the first one I experienced since being here. Everything was so strangely quiet, and perhaps that's why it caught everyone off guard, even those who have been through the storms here before.

"Not quite. I was part of the Navy most recently, but I have been an officer and warrior for many years."

Thrawn didn't know what 'at attention' would look like for Reno, but his default was 'at ease' and would have told her she could do the same.

"I hope it is a favorable comparison?"

"I could tell you even worse things." Things that had happened to him, that had changed him permanently, and not all for the better. "I'm starting to gather that a lot of people feel the same way you do here. It's just... not really the norm where I'm from."

The android finally looks back to her, the scowl still there. "It's a tender subject." But no apology came because that's difficult to get out of him most of the time. He's just a prickly synthetic cactus. York points around. "Hotel is over there if you need a place to stay, diner over there if you need to eat. There's a library over there too, but it's fucking weird so I don't know if I recommend it."

He's prickly for certain, but in a way, Reno can understand. There were plenty of her fellow shipgirls with varying forms of PTSD, including one of her sisters. Even she herself wondered on occasion how much she might be hiding behind her own exterior.

There's a sympathetic nod, at that scowl, an acknowledgement that it won't be brought up again. "I'd ask if it has graphic novels and how-to books, but that doesn't sound like it does. Are there any workshops around? I'm also good at making things!" Both her palms are raised to York, fully revealing her metallic gloves with the circular light in the palm. "I made these myself!"

And that gets her violet eyes lighting right up. "I'm with the Navy too! A sailor too, but not an officer, though, I don't really have an official rank. None of us do, we're just the shipgirls who fight the war."

Recent implanted memories give Reno a shiver, but she plows right through. "If you and the others survived, I can survive too! Just have to be cautious."

That's probably the best way to go. Please be careful, all the same.

There's a confident wink and a thumbs up. "I will! Thanks for the advice, Celty! I'll see you around!"
