Look, it's not like Katara hasn't enjoyed tending to the greenhouse. Being able to help provide for everyone has been extremely motivating and rewarding to boot, but at the end of the day she's a Water Tribe girl through and through. The minute a path appears that leads down to the ocean, she's there, swimming in the chilly water, bending the ocean around her to make ice and waves and streams.

The idea for a communal dinner comes to her when she catches a fish in a floating sphere of water. Back home, nobody in the Tribe ever ate alone, and the same was true of her friends when they traveled together. It would be good for morale, wouldn't it? A big, hearty meal that everyone can share together.

It only takes her a moment to make a big icy tub on the beach and fill it with ocean water. Soon, half a dozen colorful fish are swimming around in the shallow water, and Katara wades back out into the surf to catch another. Join her if you like!

It took a little bit of doing, but everything is ready. The fish are all cooking away on a griddle made from a piece of scrap metal set over stones and placed over an open fire. She's recruited a little help in gathering fruits and vegetables from the greenhouse, and those are either stewing together or have been converted into little dumplings which are frying right alongside the fish.

It took a little bit of innovation, but there should be enough for everyone to have a serving, and as much as she always complained about being the 'mother' of her little group of friends, there's something affirming about being able to that now for her new friends.

Whether it's leaves from the greenhouse or actual bowls, there's going to be some kind of arrangement so people aren’t just eating with their hands. It’s an effort, but one she’s happy to make.

Network Video:

[ Katara's happy face pops up on the screen. Like before, she's in front of the fountain. No art this time, though. ]

I've cooked dinner for everyone who wants to come and eat. There are vegetarian options, too. Come down to the square and eat with me. I caught twenty big fish so there's enough for everybody.

Correct.

[Altair takes a seat beside him, dropping another piece of fish for the cat. His meal was already small, but it seems he's determined to have even less for himself. Food was in abundance here, somehow, but old habits were difficult to break.]

I apologize if this comes off as rude, but I hadn't thought you'd be the type to attend this sort of gathering.

[Not that formal occasions were something that could happen here, but that seemed more up Hux's alley- Altair can't sense his thoughts and emotions, he's too closed off for that, but he certainly sounds very proper.]

[Millicent happily accepted the treats and sat beside her friend eating the pieces of fish.]

You're observation is correct and no offense taken. The main purpose was to observe the people. It was one of the few times I've had a real chance to see who arrived here and what they are like. Perhaps, get an idea of what the Agri had in mind as well. The other was to sample the food, I do appreciate fresh food when it's readily available."

Hux openly admitted. He felt he could be fairly honest with the other. Altair seemed to be pretty forward, something he appreciated.

Can you really call it an observation if I can't see you?

[There's a subtle hint of snark to his question- not a serious one, just a bit of his humor poking through. Being in the presence of one who might not be Imperial, but at the same time, might as well be, does wonders for his mood.]

In all seriousness, I am glad you did not find my query rude. And glad I was not wrong in my assessment for that matter. Had I been, I might start to wonder if my observational skills are slipping.

[A little more snark. Another piece of fish dropped for Millicent.]

I'm particular to ration bars, myself. If there's any type of food likely to survive even an orbital bombardment...

[Fresh food is fine, just... Not really what he's used to.]

I seem to recall that I was the one who had trouble seeing you.

[Hux smirked back in response to the comment. He quietly watched Millicent eagerly chow down the bits of fish that Altair continued to drop for her. She was purring away excited by all the various treats she had received so far. Altair was her new friend from the dinner party. He gave her the most treats.]

Millie appears to be quite content finishing you food.

[That draws a soft laugh from him.] I suppose you have a point there.

[Not that he can blame him for it any more now than he did then.

He drops another bit of fish for the cat- apparently having decided on letting her have most of his meal. At least it won't go to waste that way. He's only taken a few bites out of the food he did take for himself, and doesn't seem particularly inclined to finish all of it.
] I think that's a good thing. I wouldn't be able to finish it by myself.

[The portion he'd taken for himself was more fit for a child than an adult, admittedly, but... Old habits.]

Besides, if I win her friendship then this is a very small price to pay. I imagine winning yours will be far more difficult.

[He tilts his head toward him as though giving him a look. But letting Hux know that he wishes to befriend him is probably better. Especially since he doesn't like Force-sensitives. Defined lines are probably better. Or so he thinks.]
