[Closed] Check Up Time

WHO: Lauri-Ell and Billy
WHERE: Hospital
WHAT: Lauri-Ell Needs A Check-Up
WHEN: Late February
WARNINGS: None

The Ren Faire had truly been an interesting experience for Lauri-Ell. So many tastes, so many sights, so much music. And so many creepy staring people. She had even made a good friend she thought in the young woman Omega.

But there had been repercussions to that, repercussions that had brought her to the hospital today, seeking the young girl out. Yet no matter how much she sought, she could not find her. Perhaps young Omega was going out making those emergency medical kits she had suggested.

Still, she saw someone else, and that was a good thing, because here was one that could help her.

"William," because she had never gotten to calling him Billy, "you possess the medical knowledge, correct? Would you be willing to render me assistance?"

Some how the idea of Lauri getting hurt when everything was calm for once seemed almost impossible, and for a moment Billy was sure she must be here for a social call. His brows creased with concern and confusion, nodding easily, not even correcting her for once for calling him 'William'.

"What's wrong?" he asked, eyes sweeping over her to try and figure out how she'd been injured. "Are you okay?"

Billy paled a little. All his work here still hadn't quite broken him of these reactions when he was caring for the people he was closest to.

"Oh, Lauri-" He sucked air through his teeth in a sympathetic wince, and gently took her hand to remove the bandages. "How did this happen? You have to take it easy when you're hurt like this or it won't heal."

"Yeah, well- I've seen your working normally. That's most people's hard," he argued with a soft smile, leaving her side to get some supplies.

"You need to be like...watching soap operas in bed and eating chocolate's level of taking it easy," he offered, wetting some gauze and warning- "This might sting-" before swiping it over the wound to help clean and disinfect it.

"You didn't catch any of those when you were flipping through Carol's tv? Aw, you missed out. They are peek ridiculous drama."

Billy's face twisted apologetically as Lauri pulled away. "I'm sorry- It's a disinfectant. It helps kill the germs, but it also...stings pretty bad. It won't last long-" he promised. He wanted to blow on it like his mother used to when she'd treat his scraped knees, but he knew as comforting as it could be, it only spread more germs.

"So were you having fun at the fair?" he asked instead, trying to distract her, "Besides the bow snapping, obviously."

He laughed softly, and smiled. He'd missed some of Lauri-Ell's views of the world. Soap operas were maybe a little too complicated to explain today though.

"Mm," Billy shook his head, "No, we're a bit uh...behind the Kree," he agreed, worried she might have to see just how behind as he examined the depth of the wound.

"I can just picture you with the hammer, it sounds like something you'd enjoy," he teased lightly. "I'm glad you've been getting out there and making friends."

"I'm glad, Lauri-Ell. I'm proud of you," he added, before biting at his lip. "...the Kree don't do 'stitches' do they?" he asked apprehensively, collecting some more supplies and readying an injection uncertainly.

"...I need to help the wound close so it can heal. This should numb it," Billy explained, gesturing with the needle he'd prepared, "But I'm not entirely sure how your body will metabolize it..."

"It's basically what it sounds like. We...stitch the skin back together. Like we would when sewing clothes," Billy explained, "This might sting-" he cautioned, injecting the needle and pressing down on the plunger.

"We'll have to see if we can get some more high tech stuff when we travel to some fancy world again. Or, you know...figure out how to get some of these machines working," he added with a smile.

"There will be if the shot doesn't numb it. If it works though, it should just feel kind of strange, some tugging and pressure but no pain." It was a difficult sensation to explain.

He flushed and tried to shake off the compliment. "I mean not compared to my parents." He smiled though and turned his head curiously, "Yeah? Have you worked with that kind of stuff before?"

"Wh-" Billy looked briefly confused before shaking his head. "...no I mean my real-...um...the 'Kaplans'," he explained awkwardly, cheeks flushing, "I guess Wanda can heal with magic if she wants, but um..."

He poked the skin around her wound to distract from his words. "...how's that feel?"

Breathing a sigh of relief, Billy began to prepare the needle and thread.
"That's good, because I haven't had a lot of practice doing this part yet. I don't know how neat it's going to be," he apologized with a teasing smile.

"It's going to feel a bit weird. But if it starts to hurt I need you to tell me, okay? And try not to move," he warned, pushing the needle through and stealing a glance at Lauri's face to make sure she was all right.

"Um, well some of it's from the data point," Billy explained, happy to have conversation to somewhat distract from the fact that he was sewing her up. "Some of it I learned back home. I took a bunch of first aid classes, and we learned some in school too. Not quite as hands on...apart from the CPR..." he flushed slightly at the memory. "Never actually got to try stitches until I got here. Only knew what to do in theory. I'm sure my Dad would have me beat on neatness, but I don't think it's looking half bad. You're sure it doesn't hurt?"

He nodded, concentrating hard on his task.

"It would be nice, we could definitely use the help. We've been lucky so far that nothing too terrible has happened."

He paused then and glanced up. "Why, are you interested?"

"No. I mean...I've never really taught before. Besides my brothers. But I'd try my best," Billy promised, "If you're interested, I mean. No pressure. You're obviously really good at security."

Billy tied off his stitches, looking a little unsure of himself, but Lauri-Ell made him smile.

"Well then you should," he concluded easily, "I can teach you some stuff without the data point if you decide you don't want to switch, and I've got all the books I magicked."

He cleaned the area gently. "I think that should be good. You want to keep it clean. And don't pull at the stitches. We can remove them once it's healed more."

"Just Billy," he reminded with a fond smile, though he was honestly starting to find himself more and more accustomed to the title, at least when she said it.

"Take care of yourself, Lauri," he said, pointedly over familiar to make up for her formality.
