The metal starts to flatten with the repeated strikes, the lack of obvious anticipation before bringing down the hammer for each hit a testament to the strength the Exo has. He brings the hammer no higher than his chest before it comes down again, and he works quick while the metal is hot before putting it back to the heat. It's tedious work and noisy, true enough, but Felwinter means to make the metal workable enough for Jon without taking too much time.
