[Closed | Backdated] A Promise Gift Delivered
WHO: Lark, Lerith
WHERE: Lark's Workroom in the Hotel
WHAT: Lark Promised A Sweater
WHEN: January 26th
WARNINGS: None
Lark had made a promise, and promises were something that she took with quite a bit of seriousness. Granted between all of the other work she did it was not one she could deliver on nearly as quickly as she would have hoped for, even with her magic to help her spin and knit. Time, though, came and went, and at last Lark sent a message to Lerith's communication device, directing him to come to see her at her work room when he was free.
She of course included information for just where that work room was, and the hours she was most conveniently there to assist him.
AS it was she currently had the gift resting carefully in a box wrapped with the remains of the pink-purple paper she had gotten her own gift from the Agrii in. And, to deal with her magic burn headache, she was even sipping a cup of Rosethorn's reaction headache tea to try and soothe her mind. She'd burnt a lot of power to get this thing done as soon as she could.

Oh! His sweater was done by Miss Lark!
He turned the not-quite-fire device off and made himself presentable with his device in pocket and scarf up around his head. Once the elf was certain he looked... eh, okay, that's when the room was temporarily vacated. Steps were quiet, like a mouse.
Soon Lark would hear a timid knock at her door, and Lerith stepped back to be polite. This was her 'home', so to speak.

She smiled warmly at the other man and nodded as she stood aside to open it for him.
"I'm sorry this was so very delayed. There was much going on for me and I lost attention briefly. Forgive me."
no subject
'no need to apologize. things were busy. i got a lot of blankets though so i wasn't cold for too long at least.'
He glanced around, hoping it was okay to do so, and noted the cup of tea. 'tea is good to keep warm too'
So was ale, but they didn't really have a tavern here like they did at home. The only thing they did have that was remotely close to feeling like a tavern was hanging out with The Iron Bull.
no subject
She moves to the table, gesturing for him to join. Better to let him get his gift sooner. She picked up the box and passed it over.
"Yes, tea has warming properties, quite a few, but this cup is for another purpose. IT was my gift. A tea of my dear Rosie's concoction, it helps with headaches that come from using too much of one's magic too fast."
no subject
He sits at the table, looking...uncomfortable? Awkward? Sometimes it felt strange to be seated at a table - especially when she looked like she'd be in the upper ranks of Tevinter society.
Lerith looks at the box and is about to take it when his hands go back from it. He didn't want to be shocked by the wrapping like Tommy had been. 'wwrapping will shock me? tomy grabbed my present and was shocked by it at the... party.'
He glanced at the tea and nodded. 'if i had elfroot or embrium, i would give you some of that. help with aches both body and head. i have seeds to plant some but take time to grow in greeenhouse.'
no subject
"I don't think this will hurt you," Lark said. "I've collected some of what others shed. It seems quite free of magic after first opened. And I've never heard of those plants. I wonder if they would work. I've no familiarity with their purposes."
no subject
'i do like the rwapping it is very nice. looks almost magical. i haven't received a present before'
The paper was carefully undone, making sure to keep the integrity of it as he did so. Once that was done, he set it aside neatly before opening the box and pulling out the sweater. It felt soft and that had the promise of warmth!
'it looks good! feels thick so that means it will be very warm!'
no subject
She smiled at the look on his face. That was a comfort. He seemed to like it.
"It is quite warm. And as it's wool, it's rather naturally water resistant. But it does not breathe well, so it will not suit out of the winter and fall."
no subject
[Warm!] came the excited sign. [You made this all on your own? Where did you find such warm material?]
Wait, back up.
'Where did you find such warm material?'
no subject
"The wool comes from the glownies. Shiro helps me gather it. I use my magic to spin and work it into thread or yarn, and make cloth and clothing from it. We also get silk from certain spiders here, but it's hard for me to harvest on my own."
no subject
'what is glowny? never heard of it. does it glow? And the very idea of wearing a sweater made from magic made his pulse elevate. It didn't feel like bad magic. Was it in the yarn? Would it tighten and hurt him? No, no, no. She was doing this because she was nice, not because she wanted to hurt him.
'Get ahold of yourself, Lerith,' he chided himself mentally.
'didntknow that psidser could mke silk.' Tougher to type as he tried to pull his mind away from the thoughts of magic. His hands were shaking a little. No, no, he could do this. Lerith could wear a sweater for Maker's sake.
no subject
Oh the poor thing, not knowing that the magic was used in the creation, but was long gone.
"The threads spiders spin are all called silk, but a woman I met here discovered that this webbing could be gathered, treated, and spun. I have less of it than I would like.
no subject
'they are horses? or small ones. smalll horses. sherses?' A small noise. A chuckle. 'i like animals. wa good with horses where i am from'
'oh? i didn't know that spider stuff could be used like that. are hte spiders really big here too? they are as big as i am in thedas'
no subject
"They are horse like, but not horses. There is always need for hands to help care for them. They are small, but they need a good amount of care. And are affectionate."
Are the spiders really big? Even Lark blanches as she nods. SHe didn't dare go after them alone.
"Too big for me to seem them out."
no subject
The elf wiggles his arms a little before flexing his hands. At least her room was warm like his own. 'when i escape the villa i tried to stay in a few caves along the way sometimes. especailly if it rained. but spiders were there first so it was safer outside of the caves. are spiders small where you come from tehn?'
no subject
Living in caves does not sound nice though. The poor thing needs some help, and she doesn't know how to give it.
"They are small. But here the spiders can be very large."
no subject
And it was nice to know someone else from Thedas was here and he didn't have to explain everything about his home-world. Trying to explain elves was difficult enough - how did you explain yourself and people when you didn't know anything about them?
'spring is nice. favorite season because everything in the world wakes back up. especially all the plants. i still need to go to the grenehouse here and plant my seeds.' And he didn't need to stay holed up in the hotel all the time. There was a freedom here that he didn't quite have back in Thedas.
'do you have a faorvirte season?'
no subject
She doesn't know a lot of people, including him. So she assumed it was like that. Even since she knew people were prone to referring to weapons with names and gendered pronouns.
"You sound a bit like my Rosie, so to speak. She loved spring best, even though Summer is thick growth and fall is harvest. But me? I like the summer, when the sheep are sheered, the rabbits fur cut, the fibers gathered. It's also trade season, so there are dyes and vibrant colors."
no subject
He sobers up just a little. 'where i used to live, tevinter, was warm all the time. i don’t think ive ever seen snow until i escaped to haven and was brought here.' Those yellow eyes focus back on Lark. 'who is roses?'
no subject
She had no idea how Lerith was with animals.
"Forgive me, I have a dog in here. He is friendly but if you are not fond of them, I can send him off to my room. Usually he listens to me."
But she takes the rest in mind. She'll have to make him a warm coat too. He'll need it. And a scarf. Poor thing.
"Rosie, for Rosethorn. My beloved back home."
no subject
'no no i like dogs i lkei anmails a lot atcucaly'
His excitement is apparently the cause for his spelling to really fly out of the window. 'waht is teh dg's name?' One hand goes down to offer knuckles to sniff, since he never offered fingers first.
no subject
"This is Little Bear. If you would like, you can pet him."
With that she lowers her arm, and Little Bear takes this as permission to lean forward to sniff his knuckles. Then he was standing and pushing out from under the table. He was a large dog, like a wolfhound, but with pale fur that had a serious curl to it. And he was clearly happy for company from how his tail was going.
no subject
His hands move: Hand up at chest level palm down and he lowers it; both hands cross at his chest to 'claw' at the front area of his shoulders.
[Little Bear!]
Lerith carefully moved his hand to pet the wolfhound, the smile widening on his face. Now his hands were splayed facing upwards, and pinched downwards. [Soft!]
no subject
Little Bear, he didn't care. Just liked following those fingers, to try and get more petting. Any time those hands weren't on him was a mistake, didn't the new person know that? So silly.
no subject
He looks to Lark again, and repeats the motions for Little Bear's name, then points to the canine. [Little Bear name.] Maybe when Lark knew more sign, she could teach the hound commands!
no subject
"You can take him for walks from time to time if you'd like. He is leash trained, though I haven't used it much."
no subject
He gives her a questioning look. 'leash? what is thatt? i can take him for walks if you would like. i like to think i'm good with animals. i was good with horses where i am from at least.' He had managed to get one to escape his owner for what that was worth.
no subject
"A leash is a long piece of reinforced fabric that connects to his collar, so that you can guide him around. Otherwise he might get himself in trouble."
Perhaps he might not like that. But that was what he was trained with here now.
no subject
A long piece of... yes, that made sense. Lerith grins at the idea of Little Bear getting into trouble. 'i will walk him with leash then when you need me to. i live here in hotel as well so it makes it easier.'
More pets for Little Bear, to make sure that he knew he was being a good boy! A very good boy, yes! And getting all that fur on his new sweater. Good!
no subject
"I will hang it by the door, and you would be welcome to come walk him whenever you wished, if he's in here. He would love it."
no subject
Yellow eyes were bright, looking to Lark. 'okay!,' he typed. 'i will make sure he gets a lot of good walk in to get the energy out. and a lot of bellyrubs. he seemsto like those a lot!'
no subject
"He does love them," Lark confirmed, even as the dog's tail slapped loudly against the floor with happiness, "quite a bit. And he will love having a new friend."
no subject
'i should head out for now. i will wear my sweather a lot. thank you for making it for me! i can see you put a lot of work into making it'
no subject
"I was glad to make it," she says, her voice soft and fond. "Feel free to ask again if you wish to have more things. And I am serious about coming to walk the dog."
