Whale Comb To New Tick!

It starts at dawn, like many things seem to in Temba. The night before was speckled by another winter snow, leaving the ground covered in an inch of the powdery flakes. Perhaps the He Rows are lucky, because this snow is almost the perfect sort of snow, both light and easily moved through or shoveled aside, but at the same time not so light that a wind blows everything into huge mounds. That was last night though, and like we said, it starts at dawn. What starts you ask? The change in the snow. What were once pure white flakes that are absolutely what one might expect of frozen water falling from the sky comes down instead as a very, very pale pink. So pale that someone out when the snow first starts to change might not believe what they're seeing. No, it takes a full half an hour of the pale pale pink flakes before they build up on the already fallen snow to truly reinforce that this snow is different. The fact that it also packs in the perfect way to build a snow sculpture or fort is nice too. Oh, and the truly brave who dares to sample the snow might find it tastes just a tiny bit sweet.

Over the hours after dawn the snow will continue to fall, just a little bit at a time, sprinkling the whole of Temba in its soft pink embrace. Truly it is a sight to be seen, one that has not been seen here on Agra 10 before, at least not by He Rows. No other snow before this has ever fallen in this color, or been so perfect for winter fun. Yet there was something else too. Just before noon a message will be broadcast to every communication device. It's definitely an Agrii speaking, probably female, but the voice is not Ga Re's at all.

He Rows Greet they I am. Am name An Nu. I make Agrii New Tick Parting this turn. Plan many moon pass for good parting. As I get all New Tick gifts and Memberings find much things of He Rows. Think much and then know!

We no tell they of New Tick turn before! All think He Rows no know New Tick, but see He Rows yes know. But no know when Agra 10 New Tick come! And no know how do Agrii New Tick. So pass time to make He Row New Tick Parting!

There is the sound of clapping then, like the Agrii is applauding herself for her wonderful idea. Clearly she is pleased with telling the He Rows about this thing she has done for them. Or perhaps that the Agrii as a people have done for them.

New Tick mark Agra 10 move circle of sun. And mark day when time turn over in ship. For New Tick Agrii group with fams and fronds and all. When in Temba, before storms, Agrii play in sweet cold. Make many shapes and have games. See day has sweet cold! Is good sign, much luck come with sweet cold. The message ends there, and no response to the message will be given. But it seems this An Nu is inviting the He Rows to a celebration of what seems to be the equivalent of their New Year. The celebration seems to involve playing in this new pale pink 'sweet cold' snow, gathering to share gifts, and especially the sharing of memories of the past. Not that He Rows need to do any of that, but anyone going to the Whale Comb Sent Her will indeed find the space 'decorated' for an occasion, often with tons of hanging star ornaments. There are tables filled with food, much of which are echoes of what He Rows who were with the Agrii ship would recognize (which means that yes, no matter what the sandwiches in those stacks look like, they will all taste like peanut butter). There will also be hearty stews, warm drinks, warm 'roasts' that seem to be made of vegetables, and a lot of foods returning from the first Whale Comb. This includes more meats, fruits, root vegetables, and even what might be a sweet dessert made of a teal fruit and cream that absolutely tastes like rainbow sherbet. There are even some other returns that were known for their interesting affects:

-Roasted striped meat that will make people drowsy.

-A bowl of weeds that have small, daisy-like flowers all along the stalks that tastes like chicken and gives the eater a sudden burst of energy that will have them running around the room like they’re being chased.

-And a blue drink that tastes like an especially dark beer. People drinking this will find themselves incapable of lying for a half hour.

But most importantly, near the far side of the room there is a mound of items wrapped very skillfully in metallic paper in various shades of pink and purple, and wrapped with silver and gold bows. Agrii truly are lucky, with those four hands it's very easy for them to do complex wrapping projects and even the oddest shaped gifts are wrapped to their very form. Each package has a little name tag on them with what is clearly an Agrii's attempt to write a He Row's name. Everyone will be able to find a package with their name on it, and upon opening it, they will find a gift that often seems almost perfectly selected for them, or even something very familiar. Even if someone doesn't show up on New Tick day, their present will remain and wait for them until it is collected.

When night comes a new stack of boxes will arrive like magic in the Whale Comb Sent Her. The boxes are long and thin, and inside of them are long thin sticks that smell faintly of sulfur. There will be enough boxes for each He Row to take one package, and with a bit of fire (or appropriate powers) the tips can be lit. Immediately there will be a smokeless smoldering followed by a shower of quick, bright, and rapidly fading sparks. These are the light sparks An Nu referred to. Next to the stack of boxes there will also be a few jars of cream that, if used on an accidental or deliberate burn from the light sparks will lead to a soothing of pain and improved healing of the burn.

No doubt with all of these gifts and delights, He Rows will be able to celebrate the best ~~New Year~~ New Tick possible.

FAQ
Is the Pink Snow safe to eat?

Yep. It's just show that tastes faintly sweet. Anyone who could study it on a molecular level will find that it has a very small amount of a sweet compound in it, but it will not leave your hands, or the city, sticky when it passes.

I didn't ask for something on the Season of Gifting page, or I joined the game after the cut off date. What does that mean for my character(s)?

Any character that didn't have a request posted will receive one (1) full outfit from home that previously belonged to them. The rules here is that the outfit cannot have a power/ability/armor associated with it. These are just casual clothes. The outfit can either be complete or a single piece of clothing, but will include no more than: a hat, some garment for the upper body like a shirt/sweater/tank-top, some over coverage like a coat/jacket/cape/cloak, a garment for the lower body such as shorts/pants/skirts/leggings, a garment for cushioning shoes such as stockings/socks/pantihose, appropriate undergarments, some form of footwear, gloves/mittens, and possibly a scarf or tie. A dress/robe/other one piece clothing can be used to substitue for upper/lower body pieces. No jewelry/accessories will come through.

You do not have to run this outfit by the mods for approval, we ask you to just respect that the outfit does not have powers/abilities/armor aspects. We want people comfortable, but not gaining an advantage with these clothes. For instance if someone were playing Master Chief from Halo, his 'outfit' could not be a set of power armor. If your character doesn't have clothes this would normally be true of back home, they will receive a casual outfit identical to an outfit you want them to have that doesn't have special properties to them. What happens if I try and open someone else's gift?

Any He Row attempting to open someone else's gift will receive a light shock from the package which will cause them to drop it. No matter how many times they try, they will not be able to open a gift that is not for them. Nor will they be able to destroy it. No amount of dropping will break the presents while they remain in their packaging.

Does this mean the wrapping paper/boxes/etc is indestructible?

Only until they are opened. Then the paper and boxes and other things can be destroyed through any conventional (and numerous unconventional) ways. Characters may take these to reuse them, but anything discarded packaging/wrapping that remains in the Whale Comb Sent Her overnight will disappear the first moment no one is looking at it.

Okay, are the Light Sparks just sparklers?

Yep! Just sparklers. The come in any variety you might normally find as a normal stick sparkler. Enjoy your little fireworks! Any unused sparklers will disappear at the next dawn. The burn cream will remain.

Do I have to tell everyone what gift I got?

Nope. Just like with a gift you open when no one is looking, He Rows don't have to share what they get with each other. This is true IC and OOC. You can be as open or as secret as you wish to be.

Can I use this as a Mingle Log?

The king stepped back to let Gladio have plenty of room. But he had some sparklers ready for when the shield's ran out. Because when it did, he was going to light another one so the drawing could keep going until it was completed.

"You can do it." Noct encouraged, ready with his side of things.

"I doubt it," Gladio laughs, the early lines already fading from his sight.

"You're not trying hard enough." Noctis said with a slight laugh in his tone. He lit a few more and held them out for Gladio. "Gotta try faster."

Faster? That's not easy, but he tries to speed up his work, just for Noctis.

Noct lowered his head and started to laugh, trying to hand Gladio more sparklers as he went.

"Didn't know you could move so fast."

"Not going to get it done, but hey, need to try."

The wings are already faded.

"Keep going!" Noct encouraged, still trying to make sure that he kept up with Gladio. He couldn't help but have a smile on his face and he was happy to see his shield doing something almost silly.

This sprinkler fails well before he gets to the tail, and Gladio sighs and lowers the burnt out thing.

"I'm starting to think I need to do something shorter. Like my name. Not yours though. YOurs is long as hell>"

The king shrugged. "Be my guest." But he did pull a pretend offended face at the shield as he folded his arms across his chest. "You're just jealous."

"Maybe I am. Oh wait, I'm not the one that has to spent ten minutes listening to my name and titles," Gladio teased with a smirk. "And I get to not have to wear skulls all the time."

The king rolled his eyes with a light laugh in his tone. "You make it sound as if I enjoyed all of that."

And then he shook his head. "Hey wear whatever you want, you won't hear me complain." There were reasons for that of course now. There was no more throne in his timeline, no royal line to represent or be beholden to. And that made him sad, which of course didn't help as he thought back to the start of their journey from Insomnia all those years ago where he'd said he'd rather be in the obituaries to his companions.

That's pretty much where he was now.

"No, but I look forward to all the complaints I'll get when I go home and my Noctis has to sit through them."

Gladio isn't stupid. He has theories and they worry him. This? This was one of the subtle ways he had to try and find out more about Noctis's world.

"But here, you only ever have to be Noct. Or Princess. I'm not letting that nickname go."

He laughed even if some of it felt a little forced at the end. It wasn't something he wanted to think about, Gladio going home. But it did make him feel a little better that the Shield had a solid and bright future waiting for him.

"Make sure he thoroughly annoys you. Because if he doesn't, he's not doing it right."

It was weird too, to talk about an alternate him but he had to focus on the next thing. "I only care if you call me that in front of someone else."

"I'm happy to have you thoroughly annoy me in the mean time," Gladio answered with a smile, warm and happy at his king. And if there is some doneness there, well... Hopefully the man doesn't judge him for it.

"You got it."

He won't call Noctis that in front of anyone while Noctis is there.

"Good to hear." Noctis replied. "Then you should finish your sparklers and we'll get inside for the night. I still have a lot of things to show you here that you haven't seen yet."

"Yeah," Gladio answered, and with that he took the sparkler and sank it into the snow. Let it burn out there. Won't do any harm.

"Show me."

"Let's go then." Noct replied, gently placing a hand on the shield's shoulder as he started to head towards what was a temporary home. Since it was dark now getting back was the only thing they could really do until morning.

And here was Gladio, who had just been living on the ships so far. But it's time, of course, to get to learn this place.

"Guide on. Try not to get lost."
