[ video ]
[ The video starts up with Jon sitting at what may be considered his desk, possibly in the library. He frowns slightly, one hand on a couple of papers before him.
Tony is present as well, but rather than being the focus of this broadcast, he is occupying a certain couch in the background, just lounging with one of the mothcats curled up next to him.
The Archivist clears his throat. ]
Right. I assume most of us have gone and visited the new city by now, but we haven't really shared much of what we have found there - Or our impressions of the place. Which is something I believe we need to change. For now we can leave it up for debate whether or not we want to use the name Dr. Riley discovered on those monitors, but it might, indeed, be Sh'Ka.
That aside, Tony, Omega and I have come across a rather well-hidden underground chamber in one of the ruins where we have found three stone columns submerged in a pool of water. But more importantly: The top of these columns had engravings in them. Naturally we haven't been able to remove them, but we took pictures and managed to translate them.
[ He is taking his attention away from the screen and picks up a second phone - likely Tony's - to add pictures into the broadcast. Photos taken of said stone structures and the dark underground chamber with the deep pool. The only light source appear to be gently glowing flowers covering the walls. Further pictures show the tables and the engravings on them. On first look these look like random scratches rather than something intended to be legible text. There even seem to be little stick figures carved into the stone. One odd thing to note: Not even the Communications expertise allows one to actually read any of this.
Meanwhile, in the background, three more mothcats have joined Tony on the couch. ]
We already know the Agrii have no written language and I have spoken to some of you that also have come to the conclusion that this other city has never been inhabited by Agrii. Which, I will admit, is a troublesome observation to make. And I believe these tablets add further proof. What you are all looking at here is Graq writing. The content is inconsequential. A once sacred text about the Graq's origin. The language used is even more primitive than the one used by the Graq we were made to believe to be invading the ship of the Agrii.
The new city once has been inhabited by Graq. That much I am certain about now, but it opens up several additional questions. Questions we don't have answers to yet, but I am interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.
[ And he puts the second phone down with a concluding nod while Tony in the background keeps getting swarmed by mothcats. ]

[ Alberto is, for a change, not at the beach but in the workshop where he makes crystals and other small inventions. There are some finished rods on the table next to him, and a few wood planks. ]
I've never heard of the Graq before. They're bad guys?
no subject
As for the Graq... Well. No. They aren't evil. They are merely more primitive than us and don't understand many things we have grown accustomed to. They were actively used to try and bait us into fighting them. Which would have resulted in innocent beings likely losing their lives. I- [ Jon pauses there, recalling the encounter. ] ...hmm.
video;
The question then becomes did the Graq race evolve on this planet or are they transplants that decided to stay and brought their culture here? If the former, were they the first to be conquered before the Agrii were? If the latter, were they already working for the Atroma before they invaded the Agrii?
video;
It's doubtful they were working for the Atroma. The Graq we met as invaders have been kidnapped from their planet, armed with weapons they didn't understand and left on an empty space ship they understood even less.
[ There is a pause here before Jon admits: ]
I... Tried... To look into their heads. Communicating directly wasn't possible, so I tried to... It... I mean- It did not go well. But I saw their confusion and fear and how lost they were. All they wanted was to go home.
We brought them back to their home planet. Which is very different from the planet we currently stand on. That there would be a settling of Graq in a city so similar to Temba makes me worry. The questions you ask are just a few in a list that merely appears to keep growing.
video;
There is a vital piece to this story that we're missing. Just from plain observation, you can see that the new city is actually older than Temba. All I've got at this point is speculation so the next logical step would be is looking for anything that the Graq left behind in writing. You were able to translate those columns from pictures alone, yes?

Has anyone thought to contact the Agrii?

What does the translation of the tablets say?

It is this short, indeed. But we have met Graq. I find it more surprising that unlike the Agrii possess something like a written language in the first place.

Which suggests the Atroma have been at this game for a long-ass time. I wonder if the Graq were ... some precursor to that reality show.
Maybe the Agrii don't have a written language because there's some part of their culture or their society that negates a need for it. Are they telepathic? We already know they can reach our minds, given how things happened while we were in [she hesitates to type it, even now, mindful of how rough it had all been for Jon] that other life.

...it was worse when they made us all go through these Calibrations. All our memories were laid out on display for everyone. I struggle to imagine technology alone is capable of drawing out all these experiences.
[ Technology alone shouldn't be capable of doing these things. ]
That aside, the Graq we encountered in all likelihood weren't the same ones that lived on this planet. We know the Agrii living on that ship are not the same that were evacuated from this planet. I talked to them and they didn't appear telepathic, though that thought had occurred to me as well when I first studied the remains of the data spheres that used to be stored in the library.
I have been wondering if it is something the Agrii themselves have simply forgotten about.

And the clips ... it was odd. After we watched them, we all realized we were hungry. I think there may have been subliminal coding in them.

[ Okay, that's odd. ]
Would you mind showing the station to me, perhaps? I would be interested in testing that effect on myself.
[ Considering he doesn't exactly eat like a normal person. ]
