It's easy to fool people

WHO: Quentin Beck, OTA
WHERE: Various locations Temba, and Sh'Ka
WHAT: Manipulations, Rescues and Accidents
WHEN: September, All month
WARNINGS: CW: Mild animal injury in B
Note Some threats are real, others may be holo projections. If you have any questions please post below. Assume everything can hurt you to be safe. If you have special perception powers lets discuss below so the game isn't immediately given away.

A In the Dark of Night

It was dark, the moonlight overhead and unnatural still in the air. You probably shouldn't have been out. That thought was all but confirmed when you spotted a shadow stalking you. It was hard to say how long it had been following you. You might recognize it as a Ka-Rou. Or maybe just as a alien looking beast. Whatever it was, it seemed to think you were prey.

The question was- would you run?

B Collapse

Sh'Ka offers so much to see. The place has been abandoned so long, it's no surprise the place has suffered a little in the absence of people to care for it.

There was a bird by a crumbling building, sitting in the dirt, its wing bent at an awkward angle, and it hopped about without taking flight, lurching pathetically towards you. Maybe you should help it? Or maybe you might make an easy meal out of thing?

C Burn

This one was maybe more risky, but Beck was confident (maybe overly confident) in his set up.

There was a mothcat looking agitated outside of the less occupied buildings of Temba. It paced and fluttered until it finally caught someone's attention, and hurried back inside. It looked back to be sure you were following, running on ahead until you were deep inside and the mothcat was suddenly gone without a trace.

But was there was- was the smell of smoke. Thick, and acidic, it burned as it filled the space, and as the saying goes, with smoke, there must be fire.

As discussed already on Discord; while picking up a default songbird would be one thing, and please understand that life for a songbird would be short and very painful with a broken wing, if it's a corvid (like a crow) it would have a chance at survival without intervention. Sorry for getting into the weeds on a starter but I've had birds of different species for years, so I'm prone to overthinking things about them.

Because they are mentioned as being parrot-like, I'll go with treating them like RL parrots, and that would add a whole new level of complexity to the original way I intended to respond. If they're parrots, then survival without intervention would be possible thus I'm sorry to put you through questioning.

Counterpoint - there is space magic in this game that can heal.

I'll have to take your word on that because I have not been aware of it? Not saying it's not a thing but because I, as a mun, don't know about it then Kaz as a character wouldn't either.

I guess I should have done an OOC post that was a summary of the town meeting. Ezra stated publically then, when the state of medical stuff was raised, that he and other Jedi, while not miracle workers, got a very crash course in Force healing while on Coruscant. Which I believe was run by mods, but if it was not, then I apologize and ignore me.

IIRC, Beck's illusions are purely sound a light, yes? Like, the psychics of the game aren't likely to be fooled for long?

(Haven't decided which, if any of the things I'm engaging in, just pondering angles.)

Upon seeing it at first, it looked to be a splash of color against the drab background of a crumbling stone building. It wasn't until it moved that Kaz saw it was one of the larger birds that seemed to be native to this planet. Larger but evidently it was injured.

So Kaz took his time in moving closer, slowly. He had some bits of ration bar left in his pants pocket and crumbled that up, then left it on the ground and moved away a few feet. When the bird was preoccupied with the bits of food, Kaz took off his suit jacket just as slowly and easily. It took a little time before he had and now picked up his cane to hold in one hand. It meant that his limp was much more pronounced but he still moved at the same slow, steady pace and added more crumbled ration bar to the little pile of crumbs that were left for it. He stood quietly a few feet closer now but made no move towards the bird. When he added some more crumbled ration bar a third time, he only moved a few inches away. This time when the bird came to investigate the food, Kaz suddenly moved like lightning as he covered the bird with his jacket. He intended to check how badly the bird's wing was broken, but he needed to bundle it in fabric first.

Mothcats around Temba weren't an unusual thing. Cayde had even grown fond of one in particular, if only because it had been an accidental rollover from a superimposed city that didn't exist. While the Exo was no expert in the creatures, it seemed like this one was being troubled by something.

"Hey-!" He called out as he saw the creature dart into the building, and he was already moving to go after it.

...there's something strange about this, Sundance warned him. I'm not picking anything up on my radar.

"Maybe there's interference or something?" Cayde asked as he slowed once inside, cautious now. "Huh, weird. I'm not seeing it... Wait." No, no mothcats, but there was definitely something else. Smoke? "Where's it comin' from?" he asked, even as he moved further inside, still wary but now concerned that something could catch fire in these old buildings. "Hey! Anyone in here? Cat, you here?"

Had it knocked something over? Faulty wiring? Thankfully he didn't have to worry about breathing as the smoke was getting thick, but the smell was strange and registered sharp on his array of sensors. No, couldn't just be a wiring problem. "Sundance, where's its source?"

The neon lights of New York might have blocked out the stars, but Tony regularly found himself longing for them as he made his way through the dark streets of Temba in his sleepless fits of creation. It wasn't so bad at the forge, where the fire was always burning. It was the oppressive dark of an empty city, walls close and filled with shadowy alleys, that had Tony scampering toward scattered pools of light with his scavenged bounty clutched to his chest. Those pools lessened the further away from the fountain he was, and had practically stopped by the long stretch of road that would lead him back down toward the forge, between the gaping, dark eyes of the factories where only a few of the windows occasionally winked with life where Catra and Moonshade found themselves up in the middle of the night.

It was about when Tony had the thought that he could turn back toward where more people had clustered, give up on the work for the night and head for the library instead, he could still do the software in his head, when he realized his paranoia was once again justified. He had slowed somewhat, turning slightly to spot a warm glow in the distance, only to see the shadow peel away from the darkness. His heart was immediately in his throat, eyes wide and black, trying to see through the dark, but the most that he could see was the glint of the moonlight off of cold eyes, and a hulking shape that was not any alien that he knew. He stumbled slightly getting his feet back under him, not hesitating in the least before turning to sprint.
