[Semi Open Log | Turning on the machinery in the mines ]
WHO: Simba, Alberto, Moonshine, Omega and possible others
WHERE: Moonshade's Factory and later The mines.
WHAT:Troublemakers Engineers hard at work. Going into the Mines to turn on the discovered machinery
WHEN: Morning...? | Mid August
WARNINGS: Children's mischief, mostly, but who knows what activating the machines will do. I Will update with more warnings if needed.
[ Closed to Jonathan Sims | A day before going into the mines, the library ]
Alberto had been playing around the plaza from time to time, and often late afternoon and even at night. It was a big place with plenty of space for him to run around or test some make-shift vehicles he made with the scrap found all around the city. They didn't move very long or fell apart after hitting some debris, but Alberto didn't seem too bothered by it nor deterred.
Sometimes, he has spotted some young mothcats around in the nearby buildings, and it was what prompted him to actually check out the surroundings of the plaza. He had never seen cats with wings before waking up in Temba but before Agra 10 he hadn't known that lions could talk either, or even what a lion was. Cats were cats and they all seemed to like fish, so the next time Alberto visited the area he brought some with him in a bag, and headed inside the nearest building, the library, looking for the furry cute creatures. Maybe he could bribe them to get close and pet them a little as they ate.

Anybody who talked to Alberto for five minutes could tell that he was a curious kid who liked adventures. Anybody who spent time with him would eventually discover that his interest in adventure was only matched by his stubbornness. And because of said curiosity and stubbornness, the sea monster wanted to come back to the mines and figure out what the machinery room was for.
He had been working for a while to get the necessary crystal rods to power it up, and some other people had generously handed him a few. Now, he finally had the 16 crystals necessary and a friend to visit the mines with. Rules were for rule people and this was, technically, not breaking his promise to Cobb about not going into the mines alone. The man had never specified that he should visit the mines with an adult...or even a human.
"Do you need me to carry that for you?" Alberto looked at Simba and pointed at the lion's communicator with his chin as they headed towards Moonshade's factory. He had his hands full - more than a dozen crystals were far too many to carry in his messenger bag, and he had put them in a wooden box - but at this point, one more thing wouldn't matter.
"I've heard that the lady of the factory is very skilled, maybe she can give you something to carry that thing more easily." Alberto was hoping that Moonshade could help them with the crystals, the wooden box was too heavy and probably too big to easily fit through the mine's passage. they needed something smaller and more practical to carry them.
[B | Open to any char who is near the mines and/or small enough to fit through the passage leading to the machinery in the room. ]
Once they finally made it into the right room of the mine, Alberto was glad that this time they were thoughtful enough to bring a light source with them. The place was as badly lit as he remembered. He could see just fine in the dark as a sea monster but in human form, everything was always harder.
The oil lamp was carefully placed on the floor as he stared at the displays on the nearby wall, connected to all the other machinery in the room. He ran a hand over the panels, brushing some dust off of them.
"I think these would activate once we manage to power up the machines. Let's get started!"

He pours both of them a cup of tea and sets one down in front of Alberto before taking a seat himself. By then their presence has drawn the attention of the young mothcats and the sleeping ones have either opened their eyes to observe or stretch their paws, legs and wings in preparation of going to investigate.
"We found quite a bit already, yes. Reading books or touching data points isn't the only way you can learn about something. We were sent to different planets to explore them and even met the Agrii on their ship some time ago. It may seem a little old fashioned, but just heading out, observe and take your own notes can turn out to be a rather effective way of learning and gathering useful information to share." Jon offers Alberto a knowing smile. "You didn't exactly read in a book where to find these fish, did you."

"No? Ah...someone here told me we might come from different universes. It's so weird to think about it. " Far too complicated and overwhelming for him to fully comprehend when Alberto starts thinking about it. He likes to see the world, and he always wanted to travel, but hoping from universe to universe would be too much.
"London. That's a funny name, I think I've heard about it on the radio. Do you miss them? Your family." A tad of a personal question, but that's children for you. They say whatever crosses their mind. Family is also a very personal subject, and a bag of issues, for Alberto. He's curious about if other people had more luck than he did. He's pensive and silent for a moment, thinking about his dad, but brightens up the moment the tea is set in front of him. "Grazie Mille, Jon.'
It smells funny, like herbs, but it's nice and it's warm. Even during summer, Alberto has a lot of appreciation for hot food and hot drinks because those were a rarity in his life for the longuest time. He takes a sip and hums in delight, then down half the cup in one go. What is self-control. Alberto lets out a satisfied sigh and then makes some ps ps ps sounds at one of the nearby mothcats. Come on kitty, move a bit closer, he just wants to pet you. Once Jon speaks again, the boy's attention goes back to him immediately.
"Lauri-Ell mentioned a planet named Coruscant. Do you know her? She's a really tall, blue lady, very strong and pretty. That was one of the planets you got to see? I like learning that way more, too, doing things instead of just reading about them." He shakes his head and returns the smile easily. "Nah, I went exploring the deeps parts of the ocean. It is where the most interesting fish can be found."
It takes him a beat to realize that such a feat isn't usually something that any normal human can do, Not without equipment. Ah, merda. "I mean, eh...."

Meanwhile near Alberto one of the mothcats blinks an eye open with a flick of its ear and considers the invitation for a moment before uncurling into a long stretch, both front paws stretching towards the boy before the feline relaxes and lazily blinks up at him, vaguely interested.
Other than the mothcat, Jon shows rather obvious interest in the boy. "So. You went exploring the depths of the ocean. May I ask how?"
no subject
It's a pity Alberto doesn't have more fish on him to offer the mothcats here, but since they have a different dietary habit than cats, maybe it wouldn't have interested them all that much anyway. He smiles at seeing the creature stretch and taps his fingers on his seat in a musical rhythm, that Jon will no doubt recognize as "Shave and a Haircut". It's short-lived distraction, and Alberto almost can't meet Jon's eyes after that question.
"You might...not?" Is that an answer he's allowed to give? Because in Alberto's experience when adults say 'Might I ask' they mean 'Tell me now' and he really doesn't enjoy lying to people. He looks down at the cup in front of him, now looking concerned for a different reason. So far, the friend show knows his secret had reacted well and Moonshade told him that having secrets only causes problems to a community as a whole, but he doesn't know Jon enough to imagine how he could react. "It's complicated. I shouldn't have said anything..."
no subject
Jon will try to not consider the boy's worries a decent meal.
He leans back in his seat and shrugs. "Apparently, there are different versions of us. In case you haven't met either of them, we currently have two incarnations of the same man in this very city." It remains odd to think about, to be fair. As for the creatures... "Monsters. My version of Earth was home to a variety of beings that used to be human, then were turned into beings that quite literally fed on the fear of other living beings with the ultimate goal of summoning an apocalypse. One group succeeded. It was bad."

It was easier to keep his cover when Luca was with him, the other boy was more focused, while Alberto has the tendency to not worry too much about anything. But thinking about his friend and how long it's been since they talked only makes Alberto's chest hurt with longing. He takes another sip of the tea, lost in his own head for a moment. He hates having to do all this, to lie, to hide, to not be able to be himself because it is too dangerous. On the lucky side, Jon seems understanding, and the talk about other realities is fascinating enough to get the boy to look up again.
"No, I haven't. Do they act the same? And have the same memories? Oooh, do they speak in unison" He hasn't even seen any of the Bucky around, but given how Alberto stays close to the beach, that's not so strange. Most humans like by the center of the city, and it's a big place. The mention of monsters that used to look humans and then they weren't, has the boy avoiding his eyes again. Sea monsters don't hurt people, they're not like the sort of cruel monsters Jon is talking about, but he can't help shrink a little into himself.
"Someone causing a whole apocalypse is terrifying. If they succeeded, how come you know? Didn't they destroy everything? Or perhaps people managed to undo it?"
no subject
Jon folds his hands together, but a certain restlessness remains in his fingers. "I... Tried undoing it. But I don't know if it worked. Which... It bothers me. To not know." It's just one of these things even the Eye can't tell him.
