A homecoming of sorts

WHERE: Temba Jedi Temple
WHAT: Ezra bringing Luke to the temple complex/mingle with residents and visitors
WHEN: Soon after Luke's arrival

"We're pretty sure this used to be a museum," Ezra rambles as he leads Luke to the complex of bulidings Obi-wan had chosen to designate as the Jedi temple. "We packed up all the artifacts. And we're still working on actually making it, you know, nice. Obi-wan and I live here."

He pauses, debating his phrasing, but lands on going with how he'd describe the other Temple residents to anyone else.

"So does Padme and her twins, who are Force sensitive. Cal - he was a padawan at the end of the Clone Wars - has been here in Temba by far the longest, and he's pretty settled in his workshop, but he comes by to train and visit. Grogu's developmentally pretty young, so while Master Kenobi's taken him as a padawan - in front of the Council when we were on Coruscant and everything - he lives with his adoptive father."

It felt good, bringing Luke here, but also really, really weird. They should be age mates, but they aren't, and besides, Ezra's gotten used to sharing living space with the infant version of Luke and Leia.

Still, he's glad that this version of Luke, who had talked about being alone, has a chance to meet more Jedi. To spend more time with some of his family, both of the Jedi variety and not. He's curious they'll all have to say to each other, but he resolves not to hover and eavesdrop.

Although as the afternoon goes on, he does try to make sure there's tea and snacks on hand.

"My astro- well, no, he's his own astromech. R2-D2, we just call him Artoo. He defected from Leia to me because I actually fly a starfighter that runs with an astromech. Leia sent him and Threepio to find you on Tatooine. Jawas picked them up, we bought them off the jawas for the farm." He smiles. "Artoo kept insisting he belonged to Obi-Wan Kenobi, which was also a filthy lie, because he's a lying liar who lies."

Yes, he adores that droid.

Luke is going to get a long stare from Obi-Wan at that. The Jedi puzzled by it all because surely he can’t be talking about what he thought he was. That just wasn’t possible was it?

“How odd, Anakin had a similar droid. He also called it Artoo.”

"He belonged to the Organas?" Belonged being a loose term. He was a droid who very much did whatever he wanted. "... it's the same droid, isn't it? A blue and white R2-D2 astromech with a lot of personality and a mouth that would make a machine press blush."

"Yes, I think so. I left Anakin and Padme's droids with Bail, so that would make sense."

Obi-Wan wasn't exactly close to Artoo. Obi-Wan didn't have the same sort of attachments to droids that Anakin did. They were there for a purpose and very useful, but that was the extent of it for him.

As they walked into one of the buildings, Obi-Wan gestured down the halls. "There's several vacant rooms you can choose from. This used to be a museum, so the sizes vary and we had to do a little remodeling. My room is over there, and Padme lives in the one next to me with the babies. So if you prefer not to hear them, I suggest taking a room on the far end there."

"He's been by my side basically... all the time for the last four, five years." Like his father, droids are just synthetic people to Luke. Especially Artoo and Threepio.

"Something small and away from others." He's not worried about the babies disturbing him. he's worried about disturbing the babies with his nightmares. He's still processing what happened with Palpatine and Anakin.

"That's certainly impressive. That droid has been around for some time." It was easy to see the similarities between Luke any Anakin, and it made the Jedi feel a bit wistful. He missed Anakin terribly, and this was a reminder of that ache in his soul. Of the emptiness he felt for having lost someone who was very much a part of him.

"Ah, well, feel free to take your pick of the rooms. Whatever suits you best, you're more than welcome to have."

Luke feels the tremble of loneliness that he's not sure is his, despite the fact that he is sort of lonely, missing Leia's presence. "I prefer away from others. I don't want to disturb people with my hours."

Loneliness was bound to be a think for any Jedi since the purge. It was simply the way of things now. But at least here, he didn’t have to be completely alone, even if he still deeply missed how things had been before.

“Are you saying you don’t want to be in this building at all?”

"No. I just don't want disturb anyone else. Especially Padme and the babies." And he's worried he will, with his somewhat fraught sleep.

He can feel that worry, a fear and a dread that was deep rooted. Obi-Wan frowned in concern.

“Well I believe we have a room available at the other end. It isn’t small though. Many of these rooms were once exhibit halls after all.”

Luke gives him a bright smile in return. Because he is completely unused to any being able to pick up his emotions the way he does with them. "I'll find something and make it work. Sort of the rule of the Rebellion. Figure something out."

Obi-Wan isnt fooled by that smile and is giving him a skeptical look. What are you hiding sir. You can’t expect him to not find out eventually.

“Well, I’ll leave it to you then. Have you seen the rest of the temple? You’re free to use any of it though it’s still a work in progress.”

Luke looks a bit less certain in the face of that look, but he doesn't push it. "Um, Ezra walked me through some of it. And Grogu took me to the garden, he was very excited to show me the plants."
