Paging Dr. K.

WHO: Eddie and YOU
WHERE: Network and the Temba Hospital
WHAT: Office Hours
WHEN: Uuuhhh whenever?
WARNINGS: Language

Network

[Eddie hates using the communicator like this... he never even liked Skyping back home, damnit! But he'll make an exception for this. It takes him a moment to be sure the thing's working before he clears his throat and speaks.]

Um. Yeah. Hi. I'm not about to go wandering around underground or run off to the other city, but I want to make myself useful around here somehow. So I'm going to start spending time at the hospital every day. That way if people need medical attention they can just, you know, come in...

[He pauses. Wow this sounds so fucking awkward. He sighs, scrubbing a hand over his face. Frowning a little, he gestures sharply with his hand.]

Listen, I shouldn't have to explain how a fucking clinic works. We're all reasonably intelligent people here. I'll put up a sign or something with the hours I'll be there.

Clinic

[Just like he said, he posts a sign with rough hours he'll be there. Not wanting to take up all of his time doing this, he basically blocks out a few hours each morning and afternoon, with two evenings a week. It's all in Earth time so sorry to anyone who doesn't know how that works. He also leaves a note for anyone to send him a message directly if it's an emergency.

He's picked out a few rooms to work as a waiting area, office, and exam rooms. He might not be a doctor, but with the knowledge he got from the data point he's reasonably certain he can help people with most things. And, hey, it's the least he can do since he's not the adventuring type.

The not-doctor is in if anyone wants to pay him a visit!]

Clarice limps through the door, otherwise looking in fine spirits. There are a few shallow cuts and scratches, but the limp is the worst of it, and she's leaning on a walking stick she fashioned for herself so as not to aggravate things.

"Hey, thanks for the sign," she says with a mischievous smile. "I almost forgot how a - what did you call it? - fucking clinic worked."

She didn't mind his bedside manner at all, honestly.

"Was explorin' the mines with Cobb," she explained as she hobbled after him toward the exam room. "His theory is, when the trains started runnin' again, it loosened some of the pins holdin' the mine shafts in place. Either way, part of the tunnel we were lookin' at caved in. Big ol' rock came down on my ankle."

She lowered herself carefully into a chair so he could take a look. When he pulled up her pant leg he'd see that she'd already tried to wrap it in a length of ripped cloth like a makeshift Ace bandage.

"Hopefully it's just a bad sprain: hasn't felt like a break so far. I did the best I could, but. You know what you're doin'. I'd rather you have a look at it, too."

"I'm sure there were codes," she said gently as he started to unwrap her leg. "They were just designed for Agrii, not humans. It's okay. We went in there knowing it might not be the best idea. Honestly, I know I'm lucky this is the worst we got. We're here to do something in this place, and we can't do that cowering away in the safe places."

There's no reproach in her tone, just patience and surety. He wouldn't find any breaks, though she did suck a hiss through her teeth as he probed the exact point of impact. "Definitely had a hell of a lot worse. I'd say about a three."

"People like my grandad, you mean. I know a trick or two, Eddie." She cut her eyes up at him, amused: even more so when his assessment lined up with what she'd been thinking all along.

"I think you're getting this doctor thing just about right, for whatever it's worth."
