WHO: Ezra and Obi-wan
WHERE: Temba Jedi Temple
WHAT: Ezra checking on Obi-wan
WHEN: Later the night of Moonshade's howl
WARNINGS: Discussion of genocide, violence, and PTSD, probably (in short everything bad about Revenge of the Sith)
Ezra stays for most of the howl, partly because he does want to hear all stories and partly to give the Jedi Master time to sort himself. But after he leaves the group, he isn't shy about using the Force to find Obi-wan. He figures if (his brother, part of his memories whisper, which they agreed isn't wrong) the older Jedi really wants to be left alone by everyone, Ezra included, Obi-wan can also use their bond to make that clear.
Thankfully, Obi-wan is where Ezra would have looked first, anyway - back at his room in the temple. He knocks on the door and waits.

Then the expected knock comes on his door. And it is opened with a thought. Allowing the younger Jedi to come in.
Dressed down in his evening robe, the master was sitting on a mat in meditative posture. Though the weary look in his eyes suggests he hasn’t quite renewed his inner peace just yet.
no subject
"...we don't have to talk about why," he adds, as he slides to tuck his knees underneath himself to sit by Obi-wan.
no subject
And he truly is. He would have liked to have been there to support Ezra Ava hear his story. Along with whoever else was telling stories that evening. But it had been for the best. It wasn’t becoming for a Jedi to lose control of his emotions. Especially in public and in such a gathering. Still he’s glad for Ezra’s company as he sits by him.

"I told Kyle that you had personal stuff that made his questions more than academic and upsetting, but didn't tell him more than that. And that you weren't mad at him. He's probably going to show up with food in a day or two to apologize."
no subject
“Thank you for that, though none of it was his fault. He has nothing to apologize for.”
He felt bad about what happened. He should have been able to answer those questions without getting emotionally involved. However, that wasn’t the case. Before it would have been fine but not since everything happened.

"You're welcome, always. But - you're not just sad. You're...upset at yourself?"
Or so Ezra interprets what he's sending from Obi-wan, and yeah, that's worrying.
no subject
"These days there's rarely a moment where I'm not upset at myself, I'm afraid."
Which may sound bad, but the pain and guilt and regret was not easily let go of.
no subject
He knows what guilt is like, and the special brand that's survivor's guilt, even if for those who survived the Purge it's a whole different scale and degree.
"I wish we'd had longer on Coruscant," he murmurs. "I know we couldn't have told them everything, but surely the healers could have helped you - and Grogu, and Cal, more, if there'd been more time."
no subject
"We all could have benefited more from their wisdom and guidance. Master Fae was especially kind. She comforted me during our last hours there." The old master was not blind, and he could tell she wanted to do more of them. But time was not on their side.
As he thought of her, his gaze wandered to the still unopened box that sat off to the side.
no subject
His gaze follows Obi-wan's. Right, that box. He'd been resisting asking since he'd first spotted it, but now he ventures, "She gave it to you?"
no subject
He felt a bit bad about that, but it just never seemed the right time. But perhaps, it was now.
Reaching out his hand, the box lifted off the floor. The pink mothcat plush on top of it falling off before it floated over and set down in front of the Jedi Master.
no subject
Obi-wan won't look askance, he doesn't think. Besides, it's something to do with hands rather than reach towards the box.
"Any idea what it is?" he asks. It doesn't look like it's been opened at all.
no subject
His attention then turned back to the box. "No, I don't. She insisted that I not open it until we returned."
His hands hovered over the box, hesitant, but then he began to carefully unwrap the paper that was covering it. A beautiful wooden box that appeared to be a case for something was beneath. The emblem of the Jedi order emblazoned on its lid. His curiosity even more piqued, Obi-Wan lifted the lid. His eyes widening slightly when he saw what was inside. It was a tea set. Complete with a kettle and four tall tea cups that resembled the japanese style. The ceramic set painted a humble brown, with a shimmering golden leaf design that was reminiscent of the tree in the temple courtyard. The same tree they had brought back a cutting of. On the pot was also a simple artistic rendition of the temple with its five spires. The Jedi emblem stamped on the bottom of each piece as well. A folded piece of flimsiplast was also inside, sitting on top of the cups.

He watches with interest as Obi-wan unpacks the box.
"It's a really lovely set," Ezra says, sincerely, but faintly puzzled. Obi-wan does so love tea, and the style suits his very much. But why would Master Fae tell him to wait to open it?
The note, maybe?
no subject
"It is," Obi-Wan agrees. But he too is curious about that note. Picking up the flimsy, he blinks in surprised as something falls out before he can open it. His reflexes making him able to quickly catch the coin that fell out, attached to a leather cord. Holding it in his hand, he opened the flimsi and read the note aloud so that Ezra could hear.
Master Kenobi,
I hope that your return trip has found you well and in better spirits since you arrived on Coruscant. It has been a great honor to meet you and your padawans, and I am pleased that your stay at the temple was a pleasant one. Everyone who came in contact with your group spoke highly of you and we will remember you all with fondness for some time to come.
Seeing as the young ones already received their gifts, their lightsabers, I could not send you away without a token to remember us by as well. Even we older Jedi should take pleasure in things from time to time. Don't you agree? And with such a fleet of little ones to look after, you will need some time for yourself. Or to share with your students. So I decided to give you this tea set, made by one our temple artisans. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have.
Also, I wanted you to have this Jedi credit. Carry it with you. Keep it as a reminder of who you are and where you come from. In the darkest of times, it can be easy to forget.
May the Force, and our thoughts, be with you always.
Fae Coven

"I wonder how old it is," he murmurs.

“It’s hard to say, but it’s beautiful work. She didn’t need to do that.”
It felt so personal, being given something that had belonged to Master Fae. But that just made it all the more special.
“I wonder how she got this,” he says holding up the coin. “Only the Green Jedi of Corellia had these.”
no subject
And suppresses his internal wince, remembering that holocron had been torn to pieces. Possibly the last map like that in the galaxy, in his time, lost.
no subject
He turned the coin around in his hands, studying it with some fondness.
“These coins were part of their tradition. Passing them between them, particularly when a knight became a master. I know as much as I do about it because there was a green Jedi in my master/padawan lineage. You see, some of them decided to join the rest of the order by deferring to the council. I believe it happened around Master Fae’s time.”

He of course passed the book on to Anakin who passed it on to Ahsoka. What came of it after that he had no idea.
“His name was Thame Cerulian.”
no subject
"So, heirlooms that got passed down, just like any other family. That's neat. I guess that holocron counted, since Master Billaba gave it to him when he was still called himself Caleb, but I don't know where she got it from," he says with a faint frown.
no subject
Obi-Wan’s interest piqued, his sorrow having gone forgotten now that his thoughts had been diverted. Getting him to talk about things he cared about seemed to pull him out of that spiral.
no subject
"I guess, now that I know a little more about the holocrons in the Archives, it was a little unusual? The shape wasn't. Cube, like most Jedi holocrons. But didn't store things from a particular master, or even a specific subject matter. He said Master Billaba gave it to him to study the role of questions? I think partly he told me that so I would worry less about asking too many questions, especially ones he didn't have much of an answer for. And he put stuff on it, too - like Anakin's variations on Form IV. Your beacon message."
no subject
That was his guess on the matter at least. Going out into the field with one's master was always part of a Padawan's journey. But with the war they could be gone for months at a time.
"It's why I brought several holocrons back with me from Coruscant."

He pauses and adds, with a smile, just because he thinks it might be something Obi-wan would like to hear, "You were the first person I ever heard call themselves a Jedi, or talk about the Force."
no subject
“Perhaps that may one day happen. And I also made sure to bring holocrons with information on the order and lessons on various topics.”
It wasn’t ideal though since much of the data was outdated from that point of view but it was still something and he could add his own knowledge to it.
